  • response to interview questions

The importance of capturing the “lived experience” of a person is the basis of the works of Husserl, Dilthey, Heidegger, Sartre, and Maerlea-Ponty in studying human phenomena which includes concepts of freedom, free-will, death, resilience, grit, motivation, and persistence. The collection and interpretation of this information is typically done through an interview using basic, open-ended questions to capture the lived experience of the individual. It is important for researchers to have a sense of how qualitative research instruments such as interview questions are felt and interpreted by the interviewee. In this assignment, you will respond to typical, open-ended, qualitative interview questions.

    General Requirements

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

    • This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
    • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
    • Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association for specific guidelines related to doctoral level writing. The Manual contains essential information on manuscript structure and content, clear and concise writing, and academic grammar and usage.
    • You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.

    Directions

Write a paper (1,000-1,250 words) in which you reflectively respond to the following qualitative interview questions as though you were being interviewed:

    1. The experience of being a doctoral learner is unique to the individual, although it is also a shared experience. In as much detail as possible, describe a time since starting your doctoral program when you experienced your identity as a doctoral learner.
    2. Theories that emerged from existential and positive psychology like grit, persistence, self-efficacy, and resilience have often been described as psychological contributors to a learners ability to graduate with their doctoral degree. Describe how embracing one or more of these theories can help you finish this program.
    3. Describe how understanding the tenets of HTE and positive psychology help you continue to form your doctoral identity.

Note: This paper can be written in first person, as if you were answering these questions in the interview. Please be sure to add a cover page (and reference page, if needed) to this assignmen

    book:

Garrett, Bob, and Gerald Hough. Brain & Behavior: An Introduction to Behavioral Neuroscience. Available from: Purdue University Global Bookshelf, (6th Edition). SAGE Publications, Inc. (US), 2021.

PS215-5: Relate principles of neural physiology to psychological behaviors.

Memory and motor systems are foundational aspects of human behavior, and comprehending their neural basis is an important part of understanding psychological processes. In this assignment, you’ll delve into motor control, involving brain regions like the cerebellum and basal ganglia, before exploring memory processes. Just as these systems coordinate physical actions, memory mechanisms facilitate recollection, aiding learning and decision-making through strengthened synaptic connections. The case of Henry Molaison demonstrates how brain disruptions affect declarative memory, offering a holistic view of the brain’s influence on behavior and experiences.

Using the Unit 10 Assignment Template, you will complete Part I and Part II by answering the following questions:

    Part I

Explain the distinctions between memory consolidation and retrieval, describing their roles and the neural processes involved.

Describe the role of the amygdala in memory formation.

In the movie Groundhog Day, the character played by Bill Murray experiences the same day over and over again. One of the activities he practices each day is playing the piano. By the end of the movie, he is able to play piano expertly. Someone with anterograde amnesia could do the same, but unlike Bill Murrays character, they would not remember ever practicing.

Which type of memory remains intact following temporal lobe damage if declarative memory is gone?

    Describe retrograde amnesia.

List the type of memory system that provides a temporary register for information while it is being used.

Julies grandmother unfortunately had a stroke over the weekend. She took her to the doctor, and the doctor said to expect some declarative memory loss. What will Julies grandmother have problems with?

List the name of the cellular and molecular process that underlies the strengthening of synaptic connections in the brain. It plays a vital role in learning and memory formation by increasing the efficacy of communication between neurons, and its persistence allows for the storage of information over extended periods. It involves the long-lasting enhancement of synaptic strength, meaning that the communication between two neurons (the presynaptic neuron, which sends the signal, and the postsynaptic neuron, which receives it) becomes more effective.

    Part II

Discuss the fascinating phenomenon of phantom pain and its relationship with the brain

Explain the neurological mechanisms underlying the experience of phantom pain, including the role of the brain in processing and generating these sensations.

    Next,

List the areas of the brain involved in the motor system and their functions in performing movements (make sure to highlight key areas responsible for executing and coordinating movements).

Compare and contrast the roles of the cerebellum and the basal ganglia in movement control which will provide valuable insights into these vital brain structures.

Lastly, you will examine Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease to increase your understanding of brain function and dysfunction.

Describe the etiology and symptoms of Huntingtons and Parkinsons disease.

How do these diseases of the basal ganglia differ from one another?

Your assignment should use the Unit 10 Assignment Template and should include the following elements:

Answer all the questions in complete sentences and paragraphs.

Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct and accurate, and reflect knowledge of skills and practice of the profession.

Reference page: Sources listed in current APA format.

Include a minimum of three scholarly or academic sources to support your responses and conclusions.

Deciphering Memory: Insights from H.M.’s Amnesia and the Role of the Hippocampus

To make sense of human behavior, it’s essential to understand how various types of memories are formed, stored, and retrieved. Brain regions like the hippocampus and prefrontal area are central players in memory processes. Damage to these areas can result in significant impairment.

Henry Molaison, often referred to as “H.M.,” is a famous case study in the field of neuroscience who had profound memory deficits due to surgical removal of parts of his temporal lobes, including the hippocampus.

Describe the types of amnesia discussed in Chapter 12 of your textbook. What kind of amnesia did H.M. experience?

Which type of memory was impaired in H.M., and what type remained intact?

What does H.M.’s case tell us about the neural involvement of the hippocampus in processing information for long-term memory storage?

  • M2: Essay Discussion

Essay Length tips–To answer these topics completely, it takes about 2 pages – 8-10 paragraphs. Use the topic questions and the scoring rubric to see if your draft responds fully to all parts of the question. A complete thoughtful answer is more important than word count. Topic A: What is the fallacy of Straw Man? How is it different than simply disagreeing with someone elses point of view? Use the material in Vaughn’s book to help you give a detailed explanation of what the mistake in a Straw Man is. To demonstrate your understanding and to teach the idea to the rest of the class, provide a relevant real-life example of the logical mistake. (You MAY use an outside source to help you present your example; be sure to summarize or paraphrase, cite, and use announcing verbs.) Choose carefully – consider whether your example does a good job of illustrating a Straw Man. Contrast it to other fallacies, and show why your example is a Straw Man. The discussion of your example should be detailed so that readers can evaluate the fallacy. Argue the case for why your example is, indeed, an example of Straw Man rather than another fallacy.
