Anntated Bibliography
Annotated Bibliography (20%)
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph, which is the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Annotated bibliographies are often used to organize the systemic collection of ideas and research findings that will be used in a larger piece of research such as an Honours thesis or PhD dissertation. In this course, students will prepare a 1-page(each article one page) annotated bibliography on the two below articles. Check Guideline for Annotated Bibliography for grading rubric and sample annotation.

Biases
It is important to realize that despite all the training in crisis interventions we all have biases. Training can include professional training such as that received by medical personnel such as physicians, nurses, EMT, paramedics, mental health professionals, or paraprofessionals such as crisis intervention counselors, or persons working in residential or schools with residents/students who are challenged, or in prisons where many are diagnosed with mental health/behavioral health needs. Please see the online resources for some different trainings.
Using the training received, coupled with understanding what our biases may be are important to assist clients.
- Learning about your unconscious biases – test yourself
- We all carry biases despite our best efforts to eliminate them. Take the online assessment tool that can provide you with opportunities to explore your biases entitled . Please note that it is not necessary to share the results. However, please indicate which tests you took, your impressions of the tests and responses, and what you learned based upon the audio information and the reading in this section.
As we learn about biases, the following may be helpful for us to understand how we and our clients make decisions and how our biases can be formed. As you take the tests above, reflect on what you may be learning from this video and how it may influence your decisions and beliefs.
Listen to or read what may influence decision making
In the video, Dan Ariely asks, (17 minutes, filmed December, 2008, captioned, ). In this video, the presenter Dan Ariely shows decisions may, more often than not, be determined by other things than us. The concepts provided in this video shows us than we can be steered into making decisions.
Using the above information, the knowledge you have about yourself and what’s been learned regarding how to identify crisis intervention services, what types of services are provided, who provides the services, and the steps to providing the services, discuss:
- Differences and similarities between crisis counseling and longer term counseling. Include the step by step process of assessment including the assessment tools and interventions you would use.
- Most effective means for the client to receive services–In person, via phone, or text, Facetime or other means and if there are cultural preferences in communication.
- Training that may be needed to provide crisis services vs. longer term therapy.
- How your biases might impact the interaction with the persons in crisis.
Use the readings to support what you write. As a way to help the discussion, use examples of situations where crisis intervention may be best vs. long term counseling. The book we use is James, R. (2024). Crisis Intervention Strategies (9th ed.). Cengage Learning US. https://mbsdirect.vitalsource.com/books/9798214125787 and assessment tool used.

Risk Taking in Adolescence
Hello, I need a written assignment for my child psychology class. I have chosen to do it on option #3 which is Risk Taking in Adolescence. I have attached pics of the assignment. The required textbook we use is: The Developing Person through Childhood and Adolescence 12th edition, Worth Publishers, Berger, K.S. (2021). Here are the instructions: For this assignment, you will choose one of the following to complete. Option #1: Sesame Street This option will allow you to identify aspects of development typically seen in eatly childhood and some in middle childhood) in a popular children’s television show, Sesame Street. Option #2: The Nurture Room This option will allow you to focus on children in middle childhood who struggle with behavioral, emotional, andor social problems. Option #3: Risk Taking in Adolescence This option focuses on adolescence and the risky behaviors many adolescents engage in Regardless of the option you choose, please do not include your name on the paper. Simply include the assignment name and option you chose, and then begin writing your paper. Your paper will likely be 4-6 typed, double-spaced pages in length (although it may be longer or shorter; this is a guideline). Yau will need to cite information from your textbook to help define terms or give examples of concepts discussed in your paper. Please be sure to cite material correctly. Refer to the APA Style website for more details. If you have questions on citing properly, please ask! I have provided specific citations for your use with each option as well. Important: You must write this paper in a separate word processing program and then attach it below to submit the work. Option #3: Risk Taking in Adolescence Background Information Adolescence is a time for great development, and is uniquely experienced by individuals. One thing that is unique to the stage is engaging in risk-taking behaviors. For example, several years ago, teens were engaging in the “Tide Pod Chattenge” and more recently, you may have heard about the COVID parties. Read/Watch 1. Read the following about the “Tide Pod Challenge” E 2. Then watch this video about the COVID parties e 3. Read this scholarly article about risk taking in adolescence LED 4. Read chapters 14-16 in Berger’s Developing Person Through Childhood and Adolescence -
Homework Post Week 5: Choosing Attention and Gratitude
Skill Practice Reflection: Reflect on your intentional gratitude practices this week. Include a response to the following prompts for a total of about 1.5 pages double spaced.
- Take a few minutes to engage in one of the gratitude activities from class. How did practicing gratitude go for you? What activity did you try? Why did you pick that activity? Share what changes you felt in your mood from before the activity to afterwards.
- Complete a WOOP for using more gratitude practices based on the following four prompts. Remember to include all four parts of the WOOP, putting particular focus on naming an internal obstacle and an if/then statement for your plan.
- WISH: What is something you wish to change in your future in terms of your gratitude? This change can be longer term, but make sure to then also identify something for within the next 4 weeks.
- OUTCOME: What would a specific outcome be if you were to live out the above wish?
- OBSTACLE: What is an obstacle that has kept/will keep you from using gratitude? Name at least one internal barrier and one external barrier.
- PLAN: What are your plans for overcoming these obstacles and barriers to use gratitude? Make sure to include an if/then statement (i.e. If you face “obstacle x”, then you will do …) and then expand on how you will ensure you stick with that plan. Be specific!
Class Activity Reflection: Reflect on the gratitude practice during discussion this week and complete the following activity. Your response for this section should be about half page double spaced.
- When you go home, write a letter to the person to whom you are most grateful. While you are writing, observe the emotions you are feeling. After completing your letter, make a plan for how you are going to share the letter with that person. Remember, in person is best, but sharing it is better than not sharing it at all. Write a half page reflection that describes the thoughts and emotions you observed as you wrote and read the letter to your person (or describe your plan to share the letter).
Gratitude Practice: Write a half a page about something that happened or something you accomplished this week that you are grateful for.
Lecture + Reading Reflection: Reflect on the Week 5 lectures and the assigned readings and the associated videos. Respond to the following prompts in a half page.
- What is one thing that resonated with you from class, particularly from the lecture material? What do you still have questions about (if anything)?
- Identify one way you can see the content in the readings helping you going forward.
GRADING STANDARDS
Your post is worth a possible 10 points. To receive the full 10 points for this post, you must respond to all four sections of reflection and address all prompts fully, totaling around 3-4 double-spaced pages. Be honest; part of the goal of these posts is to have an opportunity to receive feedback and support from us – we have experience with using these skills and coaching on the use of them. Your grade is NOT based on how well you used the skills, but rather on how much we can see you reflected on the skills/content and have thought about how it applies to your life. Incomplete or late responses will be docked points.

Case Scenario
You are working with a family, which includes 3 and 5-year old children, a mother, and a live-in grandmother. The mother works outside of the home and the children attend childcare during the day. Grandmother is a significant care provider. Childcare recommended the family seek services due to significant behavioral concerns in the school. They report that the 5-year-old leads the behavior, and the 3-year-old follows in the behavior.
Select one of the Behavioral or Cognitive models and explore how you would approach this case. Name and explain a few key concepts of the model you selected, note the role of the therapist in that model, and how change is viewed within the model. Then give several examples of how you would treat the family. Give examples of interventions that you would use and the goals that would guide those interventions. What would termination look like with this family?
