As mentioned in chapter 2, psychology is typically defined as the scientific study of behavior and metal processes, with mental processes further broken down into affect (emotion) and cognition (thoughts, memories, judgments). The psychology of social class, then, has to do with affect (emotions), cognition, and behaviors that have something to do with social class. So … what examples of social class-related affect, behavior, and cognition can you find in the essay “The Breadwinner” found at the beginning of Chapter 2? Provide at least two examples for each and be specific enough so I know what part of the essay you’re writing about.

NOTE: “Affect” here is a noun that in psychology means emotion. Don’t confuse it with the verb to “affect” something, and don’t confuse it with the “effects” of social class. Think like a psychologist!

  • Discussion post learning cognition

Read the ‘General Instructions for Posting and Responding’ below.

Respond to one of the prompts below by the end of Week 5, Friday at 11:59pm. Then, before the end of Week 6, Friday at 11:59pm, respond to at least two of your peers’ posts about this discussion. Your post is worth 2%, and each of your responses is worth 1%, for a total of 4% for the discussion overall.

    Discussion #2 Prompts

    • Discuss one behavioural learning concept as it applies to your life. You can talk about yourself and/or someone in your life in terms of things you have learned and/or things you would like to change
    • Discuss how social learning theory applies to your life and/or the life of someone close to you. Have you realized something about how we, as humans, function due to social learning that you hadn’t considered in the past?

    General instructions for discussion posts:

    • Complete your textbook reading for the week before you post – your post should be informed by what you read, watch, and engage with. Your post should not only be what you feel, or your opinion on something, but rather should have course information as a foundation for what you express.
    • Your discussion post should be around 200-250 words in length. Please include in brackets the number of words (e.g., 230 words) in your discussion board at the end of your post.
    • You must use your own words when completing your discussion post. Failure to do so will result in a grade of 0 for the discussion post.
    • Present your discussion in a format that makes sense to you – you can simply write, or you can be more creative and add photos, drawings, audio to accompany your text.
    • You will not be able to see your classmates posts until you have submitted yours.

This is a 710 page doctoral-level research proposal for coursework, not a dissertation chapter. Im looking for clarity, concision, and polish rather than conceptual expansion. Please preserve the theoretical framing and alignment with Greer et al. (2025). I am not yet very strong yet at writing research proposals and have used AI tools to help me both conceptualtize and organize my thoughts for this assignment. I am looking to receive back a draft that aligns with the grading rubric (provided), ensures my research question, hypothosis and supporting articles make sense and is entirely human written. I understand page length is a challenge considering how much I’ve already written but the max page limit is 10, so if some content can be cut without dramatically impacting the overall proposal, I wil be fine with that. Eventually, I may turn this into a larger research project.

  • Behavior change paper

For this paper, you will choose a behavior of yours or someone else’s that you would like to change through operant conditioning. Examples include overeating, getting a child to clean up his room, or stopping your dog from chewing up your shoes. Answer the following questions in the form of a 2-3 page paper: What is the behavior that you are trying to change? Describe the behavior. How would you apply operant conditioning to change this behavior? Would you use positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment or negative punishment? Is your goal to increase or decrease the behavior? What will you use as reinforcers or punishers? Are they primary or secondary reinforcers/punishers? If you choose to reinforce the behavior- What schedule of reinforcement will you use? What pattern of responding would you expect this schedule of reinforcement to produce? OR If you choose to punish the behavior- What problems might result from using punishment to change the behavior? What steps would you take to address these problems? What would you expect to happen to the behavior if the reinforcer/punisher were removed? Does research support your method of changing the behavior? Discuss the empirically-supported methods of changing your selected behavior. Cite at least 2 peer-reviewed journal articles.
