  • Project Two Milestone: Getting to Know the Context

The Project Two Milestone will prepare you for Project Two by helping you understand the research context for your analysis. Thinking critically about what questions youre trying to answer will help you decide what you expect to observe and which tests are best suited for measuring what you actually observe. First, consider the following scenario.

    Scenario

You work for a market research company that supplies information for political non-profit organizations throughout the nation. A number of your clients are interested in the public perception of policies about sexual orientation. After organizing relevant GSS data, youve identified four possible research questions to investigate.

To complete the Project Two Milestone, youll download and review the data, create an action strategy for each research question below, and then choose one research question to analyze in more detail for Project Two (which is due in Module Seven).Step 1: Download the Data

Click the link below to download the General Social Survey (GSS) data youll use for this milestone, then open the spreadsheet in Excel.

Download the data sets to begin the Project Two Milestone.

    Step 2: Review Coding Details

This screenshot of an Excel spreadsheet shows a cursor hovering over cell A1, which contains the variable Confidence in Education. A dialog box includes the range of possible answers of survey respondents for this variable: 0 = No confidence at all, 1 = Very little confidence, 2 = Some confidence, 3 = A great deal of confidence, and 4 = Complete confidence.

    Expand image

The Project Two Data Sets spreadsheet includes four separate data sets, one for each research question below. Use the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet to switch between each data set.

To see how a particular variable was coded, select the cell containing the variable name. Youll use these coding details to decide which data set corresponds with each question.

    Step 3: Create Action Strategies

Once youve identified which data correspond with each research question, youll need to create four separate strategies for analyzing the data. For this milestone, you do not need to compute any statistics. Youll simply explain how youwoulduse statistics to investigate each question.

For each research question, use the writing template below to identify both a relevantresearch hypothesisand the most appropriateinferential testyou would use to test that hypothesis.

Create Action Strategies for Each Research Question

Use this template and the information in the Project Two Data Sets spreadsheet to explain how you might use statistics to answer each of the four research questions.

  • Phenomenological approach to personality

Carl Rogers is one of the founders of humanistic psychology, an approach to psychology that emphasizes the idea that people have the capacity and potential for growth. In this discussion, you will reflect on Rogerss contributions to phenomenological psychology, particularly how analyzing ones true self is an essential aspect of understanding personality. Before completing this discussion, review Ch. 5, Phenomenological Theory: The Personality Theory of Rogers, and Ch. 6, Rogerss Phenomenological Theory: Applications, Related Theoretical Conceptions, and Contemporary Research, in your textbook. Respond to the following: According to Carl Rogers, what is the significance of congruence between self and experience? How does this concept provide insight into an individuals personality? How do we manage incongruence? Provide a personal example of a situation in which you worked through inconsistency between self and experience and address the following: How might the incongruence have impacted your emotions and behaviors in the situation? What are some internal and external factors that would have helped you feel more congruence in the situation? Response Requirements By Thursday, respond to the prompt above in a minimum of 175 words. By Monday, post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member.

    Overview

The Diagnostic Presentation Discussion is designed to help you integrate your understanding of the client’s intake process, theoretical foundations, and cultural considerations to justify the diagnosis for your AI-generated client case study. You will refer to the DSM-5-TR and scholarly literature to apply the corresponding diagnostic criteria relevant to your client.

In your presentation, clearly and briefly identify your clients presenting problems, background information, gender, and culture. Additionally, be sure to match the clients presenting problem and symptoms with the diagnostic criterion. You are also required to support each criterion listed with examples of how it meets your clients specific needs and concerns. Because the AI-generated information may be limited, you are expected to identify and fill in any missing details using your clinical reasoning and creativity.

This assignment will help you understand both the purpose and process of using the DSM-5-TR in clinical diagnosis. Your PowerPoint presentation must be recorded as if you are presenting live to the class.

    Instructions

Based on the Sperry and Sperry reading for Module 3, prepare 5-8 slides that define the following topics with application for how you would approach an interview for your AI generated client (approved week 1) you will be using for your case study.

      1. Slide 1 client demographic information, important historical information and presenting problems.
      2. Slide 2 – Deductive reasoning (define and provide at least 3 questions you would use to interview your client to assess symptoms related to the diagnostic criteria).
      3. Slide 3 – 5 – Client Diagnosis (refer to DSM-5/TR criteria and list criteria met with examples) (you may use more than one slide if needed).
      4. Slide 4-6 -Inductive reasoning (define and provide possible Theoretical Orientation which can help guide and frame the assessment, case conceptualization and treatment plan for your client, briefly justify the orientation as appropriate to the presenting client and diagnosis).
      5. Slide 5-7 Cultural Formulation (CF) Using elements of CF Listed in Sperry and Sperry (table 3.3, p.49) briefly describe your client through these elements and include spiritual and religious considerations.
      6. Slide 8 – References

This presentation should be 5-8 slides (not including title and references slides). The slides should not include excessive text in the slides. Utilize the notes section in the presentation to detail what you would say if you were presenting this information to a group, including at least 100 words in the notes section of each slide. Refrain from thorough details for this presentation as you are preparing for future development for Case Study Assignments (CPAD, CPCC, CPTP and CPF). Each slide should use appropriate graphics and be aesthetically pleasing.

In a 8-12 minute recorded presentation, present your slides as if you were presenting live to the class and record your presentation (can use a record feature in PPT).

Submit to discussion board: You will submit your recording link or embed video and attached PPT as your discussion.

The DSM-5/TR and at least 1 other scholarly reference is required for this assignment.

Please review the before posting. You may also click the three dots in the upper corner to Show Rubric.

    Discussion Thread: Diagnosis Presentation Resources

Post-First: This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all Discussions. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the provided prompt.

Replies: You will reply to 2 classmates offering 2 strengths and 2 growth areas specific to the client they introduce in their presentation. Specifically address if the diagnosis was justified and any differential diagnosis you would consider.

The due date for the discussion is Thursday 11:59pm (EST) and replies are due Sunday, 11:59pm (EST) Week 3/Module 3.

    Requirements:

  • Discussion 1

    Description

The sociological perspective on identity is distinctly social constructionist in orientation.

In your own words (but drawing from the textbook and other available readings or viewings in the course), why is it significantly different to think about identity in this way as opposed to the essentialist perspective? For example, how does adopting a social constructionist point of view change your thinking about your own identity and sense of self?

    Length: minimum of 250 words

Your response should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards where appropriate. Additional resources are not required but be sure to cite any you use.

  • Discussion Board: Memory

your discussion board I’d like you to answer the following questions: What did you learn about memory (in general) that you did not know before? Cite specific information from the video and/or your course text in your response. What did you learn about your own memory from taking the quiz? Do you feel the quiz was confirmation on what you already knew about yourself and your memory or did the results not really align with how you see your memory working on a daily basis? Discuss where your strengths and areas of concern lie. Are you excellent with short term memory but struggle recalling long term facts/ideas? When you take tests, do you notice that it easier for you to recall or recognize the information you are being tested on? Why do you think this is? What have you learned in the text that support or discredits your own theory of how your memory works? Cite at least two areas from the text in this section that support your personal theory of memory. There has been talk, for some time, about developing a drug that could alter a person’s memory. In certain cases (war, rape, severe trauma) do you think editing a person’s memory would be beneficial in today’s society?
