  • Discussion 1: Selecting an appropriate measurement system

    ompletion requirements

A behavior analyst is asked to measure aggression in a classroom, defined as hitting, kicking, or pushing peers. The behavior occurs frequently and at variable durations, and multiple staff members will be collecting data during the day.

    1. Identify two measurement systems that could be used to record this behavior (e.g., event recording, duration, interval recording).
    2. Compare the advantages and limitations of each system in this context.
    3. Explain how the nature of the behavior (rate, duration, and environmental conditions) should guide the selection of the most appropriate measurement procedure.
    4. Discuss how selecting an inappropriate measurement system could lead to inaccurate conclusions about treatment effectiveness.

  • Culture-Bound Syndrome – Hikikomori

    Assignment Details:

For this paper, you will write a comparative analysis of a culture-bound syndrome (CBS) of distress that does not appear in the DSM-5-TR as a mental health disorder. For information on CBS, review the chapter on culture and psychiatric diagnosis in your copy of the DSM-5-TR (pp. 859879), as well as the chapter on anxiety disorders (pp. 215261) for culture-related diagnostic issues.

    CHOSEN CBS: Hikikomori

The following parts of the paper must be included for your submission:

    • Part 1: Your paper should provide a thorough description of the culture-bound syndrome (CBS), including the population for which the CBS applies, estimated prevalence rates, and criteria for diagnosis of the CBS.
    • Part 2: Your paper should include a discussion of differential diagnosis and how your selected CBS is distinguished from one or more disorders that are listed in the DSM-5-TR. This portion of your paper will be an integrative analysis of the symptoms of your CBS and how they are similar to or differ from symptoms for DSM-5-TR. Be sure that your discussion is an integrative synthesis (i.e., compare and contrast together, not separately) of the symptoms, not a summary of separate diagnostic criteria.

Your paper should be formatted in APA 7th edition and must be a minimum of 5 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. No abstract is required for this assignment. You should have at least 5 peer-reviewed references. Your DSM-5-TR can be a starting point for your research but cannot be used as the sole resource for your paper.
