    Be the Change – Podcast

    For this assignment, you will reflect upon different concepts discussed throughout the course, their historical relevance and intersection with today’s psychology, and why you need to be part of the positive change moving forward. Submit a 69 minute podcast or audio file where you connect one HISTORICAL school of thought’s founding figures and ideas with one CONTEMPORARY school of thought’s ideas.

    Assignment Preparation

    Step 1: Select one CONTEMPORARY focus in psychology:

    • LGBTQIA+ psychology.

    Step 2: Select one HISTORICAL school of thought that you believe helped to somehow inspire or contribute to your contemporary focus selected in Step 1:

    • Behaviorism.

    Step 3: Select one of the timeless psychology DEBATES from Geher (2021) that may fit in:

    • Person vs. situation.

    Step 4: Locate four peer-reviewed journal articles that align to your CONTEMPORARY focus. Be sure that at least one article represents diversity, equity, and inclusion. To accomplish this goal, find at least one article that either comes from an international journal, uses a non-Western population, or represents clearly the experiences of an underrepresented group in the literature. Note: Two articles may be from our course readings, but the other two should be from outside of course readings.

    Assignment Instructions

    For this assignment, create a podcast or audio recording. Your final product should be 6-9 minutes in length. Use the to help you prepare your script prior to recording your podcast.

    • Describe the contemporary topic of interest.
      • Evaluate its social significance.
    • Analyze the historical and societal influences that have led to this new area of psychology via reviewing research from four peer-reviewed journal articles.
      • Explain how the older school of thought influences the present-day field of psychology and specifically your contemporary topic of interest.
        • Include at least one theorist name within this discussion!
      • Explain how one of the timeless debates from week 9 fits with the contemporary topic of interest.
      • Explain other historical events or movements that may have inspired interest in this topic area.
    • Explain how this new school of thought may guide social thinking in the future.
    • Create a plan for how you (and others) can help be the change in the future to improve the human experience in this contemporary area of psychology.
      • Consider individual, community, and global scales.

    Submission Instructions

    There are two deliverables: Submit both your audio file or link AND a reference page listing your sources.

    Length: 69 minutes

    Oral communication: Must be clearly spoken and paced.

    Resources and citations: Use a minimum of four peer-reviewed journal articles. Two may be from course readings. One must represent diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Citations may be stated orally to give due credit. Format reference list according to current APA guidelines.

  • Does This Establish Cause-and-Effect

    1. Part 1 Use AI to create a study

    You must copy exactly the prompt given by your professor and paste it into an AI tool (such as ChatGPT).

    The AI will generate a short research study (150200 words) that includes:

    • A clinical context (for example: ABA, speech therapy, counseling, or school psychology).
    • Participants
    • Procedure
    • How the results will be measured

    Important:

    • The study must use a quasi-experimental or single-case design.
    • It cannot include random assignment.
    • It cannot be a true experiment.
    • You must not edit the text. Copy and paste it exactly as the AI generated it into Blackboard.

    2. Part 2 Analyze the design (this part must be done by you)

    You must answer three questions, about two sentences each:

    1. What type of design is it?
      • Single-case
      • or quasi-experimental
    2. How do you know it is that type of design?
      Explain briefly which characteristics of the study indicate that design.
    3. Does the study establish cause-and-effect?
      Explain whether it demonstrates causality and why.

    You must not use AI for this part.

  • Clinical evaluation and treatment planning in counseling

    1. Clinical evaluation – identify presenting problems, psychosocial history and mental status exam and collect information to assess clinical issues and formulate a diagnostic impression within the clients interpersonal and cultural context. What assessment tools/tests are you using and are referrals for adjunctive therapies being made. 2. Crisis management – ability to identify, evaluate, and manage crisis situations within the clients interpersonal and cultural context 3. Treatment planning – develop a comprehensive, measurable treatment plan and prioritize treatment goals based on assessment, diagnoses, and a theoretical model within the clients interpersonal and cultural context. Include treatment goals, clinical factors that take the clients values, beliefs, culture etc into consideration. Be sure to briefly summarize the theory your treatment is based on and then in the next section is how this theory will be implemented 4. Course of Treatment – implement, evaluate, and modify clinical interventions consistent with the treatment plan and theoretical orientation including outcome-based models and diversity factor. Consider the therapeutic relationship, the interventions you provided based on your theoretical orientation, clinical factors (such as: treatment consistent with developmental stage or use of substances, provide psychoeducation etc.) and termination 5. Diversity – the impact of culture, acculturation, economic (SES), political, gender, social and spiritual status and environment on the clients psychological problems and treatment. Consider how your treatment may change based on these diversity issues. 6. Laws and Ethics – identify, apply, and manage legal mandates and ethical standards and principles in clinical practice. Focus on issues of confidentiality / privilege, exceptions to confidentiality, professional conduct etc. (laws) and consider informed consent, therapeutic boundaries, management of ethical issues etc. (ethics). The written Capstone case study will be approximately 25 pages in length (not including cover page or reference page), have at least 15 appropriate references (no more than 5 references can come from textbooks), and adhere to APA style. Since this is not a research paper the MSMU guidelines should be used to organize your paper. The six areas (clinical evaluation, crisis management, treatment planning, course of treatment, diversity, law and ethics) should be used as main headings rather than method, results, and so on. The final paper will be submitted via Canvas on the date noted in the syllabus. Students must receive a passing grade (B- or better) on the written case study before they will be allowed to orally present their case. If the student does not pass the written portion of the Capstone, they will have one opportunity to rewrite their paper and when passed will then present the case to a panel of selected faculty members.

    My future goals is to become a high school college counselor This is a discussion NOT a Paper so no need for a cover page. This is the second part to respond to my peer. My future career is in psychology, in family advocacy in domestic violence. In this field, statistical analysis is used to measure the prevalence of abuse, assess the efficacy of interventions, and identify risk factors. Important applications include the use of longitudinal data to track the safety improvements, regression models are used for mental health impacts such as PTSD and anxiety, to mention a few. Text analysis is also implemented to understand victim-survivor experiences.

    There are various ways that statistical analysis can be used in psychology. One way to assess the program’s effectiveness is by evaluating the success rates of different intervention programs designed for both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Having the ability to identify risk factors is another example of statistical analysis being used in psychology. This is used to identify common demographics or situational risk factors related to domestic violence. Another way statistical analysis is used in psychology is to measure the clients’ outcomes by tracking and quantifying improvements in clients’ well-being and safety. Although I only mentioned a few ways statistical analysis can be used, there are more ways to use statistical analysis in psychology.

    In summary of the article, A qualitative data analysis: family victim advocates in child advocacy centers. The study analyzes the critical role of family victim advocates and child advocacy centers (CACs), which highlights the responsibility in bridging the gap between families and investigative systems. Their method of doing so involves a pragmatic qualitative research method, which, in this week’s reading of our textbook, Tanner, D (2016), chapters 1 and 2, discusses qualitative data while defining it as a type of variable rather than covering methods or in-depth qualitative analysis.

    The authors of a qualitative data analysis, family victim advocates in child advocacy centers, investigate motion, perception, and the need for special education. In this week’s reading of statistics for behavioral and social sciences, chapters 1 and 2. Tanner, D (2016) investigates fundamental and foundational concepts as well as research methods and data description. The focus is on defining the variables and understanding data skills such as nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Both implemented variables by utilizing motivation, perceptions, need for training, defining variables, and understanding data scales.

    In the article on qualitative data analysis, family advocates and child advocacy centers, and in this week’s reading, charts or graphs were not used; however, in our textbook, chapters 1 and 2, the foundation of both graphs and charts was introduced to assist in the visualization. Because I am both hands-on and visual, the introduction of such charts, graphs, and bars is found to be helpful in my understanding. This helps me to put words and images together to see it. In the article I have chosen, it demonstrates the value of providing insight into motivations, training needs, and supports a trauma-informed approach.
