    Your Assignment

    1. Apply your inclusion and exclusion criteria to the results from your search procedures and examine the studies that meet the qualifications to be included in your literature review.
    2. Provide highlights of these studies, guided by the reflection questions below:

    A. Based on these studies, does it appear your search criteria, with inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, were effective in identifying relevant sources?

        1. How many studies did your initial search generate (after applying your inclusion and exclusion criteria)? Is this number manageable? Are there too many or too few?
        2. Are the qualifying studies generally relevant to your research question?
        3. Do the studies align with key concepts and variables of interest in your systematic review?
        4. Are there any important studies or topics you expected to find but did not?
        5. Reflect and identify any patterns in the studies that were included and excluded. Do these patterns indicate that your criteria are too broad or too narrow?
        6. Are your criteria effectively filtering out irrelevant studies?
        7. Do the selected studies meet all the inclusion criteria you established?
        8. Are there studies included that should have been excluded based on your criteria?
        9. Did additional search terms surface that might be used to expand your search?

    B. Based on this initial review, does it appear you need to revise your search terms or inclusion and exclusion criteria?

        1. Reflect on whether the search terms used were comprehensive enough to cover the topic adequately.
        2. Reflect on the balance between sensitivity (finding all relevant studies) and specificity (excluding irrelevant studies).
        3. Based on the initial review, do you notice any trends that suggest your search strategy could be improved?
        4. Are there specific aspects of your criteria that seem to be either too restrictive or too lenient
        5. Is the scope of your search too broad or too narrow to effectively capture relevant studies?

    C. If your initial review indicates revisions to your search are needed, revise your procedures and document the updated search terms and criteria. Redo your search.

        1. What specific changes will you make to your search terms or criteria based on your initial review?
        2. How will you document these changes to ensure transparency and reproducibility in your review process?
        3. Ensure all changes and the rationale behind them are clearly documented.
        4. Plan additional searches to fill gaps identified in your initial search.
        5. Be systematic in applying your revised search terms and criteria to ensure consistency.
        6. Continue to document all procedures, including search terms, databases used, and any adjustments made.

    3. Submit your initial assignment for feedback and review.

      • Based on instructor feedback, you may need to expand your search and update your search procedures with any changes made to the initial screening of your results.

    4. After receiving feedback from the instructor, make any needed revisions to your assignment and resubmit to your instructor for approval and permission to proceed to the next step.

  • Discussion

    1. Select one state from our country. Using the Internet, research and report on the legal standards for day care licensing in that state. Please include the following: size of the facility, physical condition of the facility, passage of fire and safety inspection, number of toys available, caretaker-child ratio, provisions for illness, meals provided, and training or education of the teacher.

    2. How do the minimum standards for licensing compare with the necessary standards for good intellectual and emotional development elaborated in the text? What surprised you most about what you learned in your search?

    3. Why are more preschoolers obese than in previous generations? Here are some theories:

    • sedentary lifestyle
    • “activities” that are not active: television, video games, computer use
    • change in food availability; take-out is common
    • change in portion sizes: take-out food is often “supersized” so that people who eat this way often become unaware of how much a portion really is
    • marketing: many food products are advertised heavily, including advertising aimed at children

Which of these theories do you believe contributes most to childhood obesity? Provide an explanation for your answer.

    4. What advice would you give parents who are looking for help with managing this problem in their own families? Do you think it is possible for our nation’s children to become “healthy”? Why or why not? What potential consequences may result if we fail to make progress in this area?

I need four or more sentences for each question.

!!!!!Provide clickable links that take me directly to your sources to the EXACT information (i.e., the journal article that matches your reference list or to the reputable webpage(s) where you gathered your information)

I would like you to integrate your answers into an essay format. You may (and should) include personal opinion and reflection in your discussion.

    Task:

You should address all aspects of the SIX questions using complete thoughts with proper syntax. Your paper should follow the writing style and citation formatting for APA. Include a properly formatted APA reference list, but you do not need to have a title page or abstract. See instructions (above) and resources (below) for additional tips. Please double space your papers and use in-text APA citations when summarizing and discussing ideas from other sources. There are no page length restrictions, but papers tend to be 3 pages long.

    Description & Instructions:

I have come across a number of podcasts that I feel make interesting supplements to our discussion of child development. This project will allow you to explore some additional topics from this course in more depth. Choosee a podcast from the List of Podcasts link in the Writing Assignment #1 portal and answer the below questions about the podcast.

I would like you to integrate your answers into an essay format. You may (and should) include personal opinion and reflection in your discussion. You should address all aspects of the SIX questions using complete thoughts with proper syntax. Please double-space your papers and use in-text APA citations when summarizing and discussing ideas from the podcast and other sources. This assignment is worth 50 points (see below and the rubric for point breakdown).

I will use TurnItIn for this assignment, but I realize that similarity reports will likely be a bit high due to the integration of questions into your discussions. However, I expect summaries and answers to questions to be in your own words.

Hints: If you are struggling with structuring your ideas, try rephrasing the questions into topic sentences to guide your discussion.

Integrate the below questions into your essays and include the following criteria:

    1. Briefly summarize the content of the podcast. (2-4 paragraphs; 12 points)

    a. Note: I strongly suggest you DO NOT use AI to generate summaries. AI gets many aspects of podcasts wrong. I care about what you gathered as valuable from the episode, but I will also be attending to accuracy of information when I grade your summaries.

    b. Also, you should be citing the podcast in your papers, as per APA guidelines for summarizing someone elses work. You do not have to cite after every sentence, but generally at the beginning of each paragraph and when integrating ideas to better show what are your own thoughts and what is summary information from the podcast.

    2. Why did you choose this topic? What interested you about the topic? (1-3 sentences; 2 points)

    3. What is one new/interesting/surprising idea you learned from this podcast? Why do you feel it is new/interesting/surprising? (~1 paragraph; 4 points)

    4. What is something you think about differently after having listened to this podcast and why? (~1 paragraph; 4 points)

    5. What is one question you still have after listening to this podcast? Why do you think the podcast did not address your question? (~1 paragraph; 4 points)

    a. Note: It is okay if your questions are not directly related to the podcast. What is important here is that you are thinking thoughtfully and critically about the podcast and research related to this topic. Your question should be something that involves a bit of research or exploration of a theme. Because I am looking for a 2-4 paragraph summary and the summary is worth ~25% of the grade for this assignment, I am looking for a more complex question than What is the definition of X?

    6. Find the answer to your question using a reputable source:

    a. What clues do you have that it is a reputable source (list more than one reason if it is peer-reviewed think beyond the peer-review aspect to the journal quality, the credentials of the authors, or the number of times the article has been cited, etc.). (1-3 sentences, 3 point)

    b. Briefly summarize your findings from the source and be sure to reflect on how the source has answered your question from the podcast. (2-4 paragraphs. 12 points)

    i. Note: Because you are summarizing information from another source, you should be citing the source during your summary of its content.

    Additional criteria:

    I. Include an APA formatted reference list with ALL of your sources at a minimum, you need TWO sources, including the original podcast and the source where you found your answer. (4 points)

    a. Please review the Generative AI Guidelines for this course. Because of the prevalence of AI, you must adhere to the AI guidelines for the course while completing this assignment.

    b. For ALL citations/sources, you must include a clickable link to the source content that will take me directly to the content you used to complete the assignment. The link cannot take me to a top-level page (like clevelandclinic.org or springer.net) but must direct me to the page or pages where you gathered your information.

    i. I realize it may not be proper APA citation formatting to provide a link in all cases; however, it is now necessary given the amount of hallucinated sources and information I have received in the past few years.

ii. Yes, please also link to the podcast as part of the reference list. I realize I provided this reference for you, but it is just good habit and keeps everything parallel.

    c. Note: If you do not provide clickable links that take me directly to your sources to the EXACT information (i.e., the journal article that matches your reference list or to the reputable webpage(s) where you gathered your information) then you will receive a ZERO on this assignment.

    i. Your paper should be written in essay format (i.e., try to have information flow together as one single paper with no subheadings), which also has appropriate syntax, spelling, vocabulary, and APA formatting / citing using in-text citations. (5 points)
