  • Module 4

You will post your answers to the module’s questions (see below) to the discussion board by Thursday (2/26)

    Guidelines for posts:

For your own original posts, you will need to write at least 250 words per question. You should make sure to cite your reading/videos for the module. You will maximize the points you earn by completely answering the questions and by promoting discussion with your fellow classmates.

    Suggestions for posts:

    Ask each other questions

Pose solutions to real world challenges of the topic

Present your interpretation of a reading and ask others for theirs

Point out what you found most interesting or challenging about the material- did it change your mind? or challenge your beliefs?

    1. A local university made national headlines after the death of a football player at practice. The student died after enduring hours of a punishing weight lifting routine with little water or rest. Witnesses say the student wanted to stop but did not because the coach told him to keep going. His fellow players also seemed to want to help but instead maintained the difficulty of the workout based on the coachs direction. Why did the football players, including the victim, yield to the coach? In your answer, use both Milgrams experiment and the concept of obedience to authority to explain their yielding behavior?

    2. In your own life, in what ways are you a conformist? What about a non-conformist? What circumstances have rendered you personally to be more versus less likely to conform with others in the past? Are your answers to these questions different depending on whether were talking about informational versus normative social influence?

    3. What is one specific lesson you can take away from course material on attitudes and persuasion in trying to be more effective about resisting the persuasive efforts of others? How could you implement this idea in your day to day life?

    4. Think about a time when you tried to convince someone to change an attitude but were unsuccessful. In light of what you now know about attitudes and persuasion, what might you try differently if you had it to do all over again? Was your approach appropriate given the cognitively based, affectively based, or behaviorally based nature of the attitude in question? How might you capitalize on research regarding the Yale Attitude Change approach or the elaboration likelihood model in order to be more successful if you had another chance at persuading this friend?

PLEASE MAKE EACH RESPONSE AT LEAST 250 WORDS EACH!!!

    • Explain the importance of considering representation of diverse populations when conducting psychological research studies.
    • Explain how diverse populations are used in research groups and how use of diverse populations makes research more credible.
    • Discuss what it will mean to be a multicultural practitioner-scholar. How can the practitioner-scholar model can be a guide in developing the knowledge, skills, and multicultural competencies needed for professionals in practice? Provide at least one specific example where multicultural thinking is important for a practitioner.

    Instructions

For this assignment, you will use the treatment plan outline from the CASP 2020 document (pages 2324) to begin developing your treatment plan for the behaviors listed in your DSM-5 intervention matrix. This is Part 1 of your ABA Treatment Plan for ASD assignment. You will submit Part 2 in Week 9.

    In preparation:

    • Review the following document, especially familiarizing yourself with the necessary elements of the treatment plan .
    • Download and save the . Please add directly to this template for this week’s and Week 9 assignment.

For this assignment, complete Parts 1 through 6. of the treatment plan, which include the following:

    1. Patient Information.
    2. Reason for Referral.
    3. Brief Background Information.
    4. Clinical Interview.
    5. Review of Recent Assessments/Reports (File Review).
    6. Assessment Procedures and Results.

Remember that your information here will likely be hypothetical, though you can use elements of a real-life case as long as all identifying information is removed (this is extremely important and must not be forgotten; no exceptions). See the CASP document for more information on what to include in these sections.

While the template is in an outline form, make sure you are writing complete sentences and paragraphs to address each section. Lists, incomplete sentences, and partial paragraphs are not sufficient for this assignment.

Alignment of Assessment and Behaviors: Remember that for purposes of this course and this assignment, you will be aligning your background and assessment information with the operationally defined behaviors from your DSM-5 Potential Intervention Matrix assignment in Week 5. The behaviors you included there will be the basis for the treatment plan and will be expanded on and discussed in the background and assessment portions, as appropriate. In a real-life situation, you would conduct assessments and then align the plan to this information. Because we have to target hypothetical behaviors specifically related to ASD, we will target those behaviors and then make sure everything (including the assessment) is aligned from there.

Additional Supports for ASD: As you prepare your assessment results, remember to consider what interviews, observations, or other assessments might reveal for a child with autism, based on what you know about ASD. For example, research and/or review some of the common additional supports that may be helpful for individuals with ASD (keeping in mind that though common, supports should still be highly individualized, as they would in any ABA program or intervention). Examples include visual supports, structured teaching environment, clear boundaries, items or areas to increase or decrease sensory input (including the ability to appropriately engage in self-stimulatory behavior), highly motivating items/activities, adaptations to assist with communication and social interactions, and adaptations to reduce anxiety (choices, priming, breaks, et cetera).

Overall, your assignment submission will be assessed based on the following criteria:

    • Present relevant and reasonable patient, referral, and background information for an individual about whom the treatment plan is being developed. (Template Sections 1, 2, and 3.)
    • Describe the results of a clinical interview, providing performance levels, operational definitions of related behaviors, and relevant possible functions of behaviors for all seven criteria. (Template Section 4.)
    • Develop relevant recent functional behavior assessment results, cognitive testing results, or progress reports, along with a summary of important findings. (Template Section 5.)
    • Develop compassionate and inclusive assessment procedures, including the purpose of all assessments and a summary of findings. (Template Section 6.)
    • Convey purpose in a well-organized text, incorporating appropriate evidence and tone in grammatically sound sentences.
    • Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing.

    Additional Requirements

Your assignment should also meet the following requirements:

    • Template: You must submit your ABA Treatment Plan Template with Sections 1 through 6 completed as your submission for this assignment.
    • References: Cite a minimum of six sources of scholarly or professional evidence. At least one of the resources should be no more than five years old.
    • APA formatting: In-text citations and reference list should follow current APA style and formatting.

    Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and rubric criteria:

    • Competency 1: Describe diagnostic criteria of autism spectrum disorder.
      • Describe the results of a clinical interview, providing performance levels, operational definitions of related behaviors, and relevant possible functions of behaviors for all seven criteria.
    • Competency 2: Analyze early intervention treatments for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
      • Develop relevant recent functional behavior assessment results, cognitive testing results, or progress reports, along with a summary of important findings.
