Reflection Assignment: Thinking for Yourself in the Age of AI Reading The Virtues of Thinking for Yourself. Lund, C. (2025). The Virtues of Thinking for Yourself | by Cooper Lund | Medium Purpose of the Assignment The purpose of this reflection is to encourage you to think critically about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in learning, writing, and academic work. This assignment asks you to reflect on your own relationship with AI, consider its potential benefits and limitations, and examine how relying on AI may affect your development as a studentparticularly in this course. This is not a summary of the reading. Instead, you should engage with the authors ideas and connect them to your own experiences, choices, and learning process. Instructions Write a thoughtful reflection consisting of at least two complete paragraphs (8-10 sentences per paragraph). Your response must: Address the required question below, and Respond to at least two (2) additional questions from the list that follows. You are encouraged to reference specific ideas from the reading, but direct quotations are not required. Students must use the attached template to complete this assignment. Please type directly into the document, delete the placeholder text (including Student Name), and replace it with your own information. Submit the completed template file as your assignment. Required Question What is one concrete choice you can make this semester to ensure that AI supports, rather than replaces, your own thinking and learning? Choose at Least Two Additional Questions The author argues that the work is the point. What do you think this means in the context of learning, and how might this idea influence the way students approach completing assignments in college? The author argues that struggle, or friction, is necessary for growth and learning. First, explain how using AI to complete or shortcut writing assignments might reduce productive struggle and affect your development as a student, both in this course and in future courses. Then, discuss where you see value in working through difficulty rather than receiving quick answers. Identify one specific idea, example, or claim from the reading that challenged, confirmed, or complicated your existing views about AI. Explain how this idea relates to your own academic habits or assumptions, and describe whether it has influenced how you think about using AI as a student. In the context of this course, what do you think responsible or appropriate AI use should look like? Where do you think the line is between using AI as a tool and allowing it to do the thinking for you? Reflect on your own use of AI in academic settings. In what ways has AI been helpful to you, and in what ways might it have limited your learning or independence? Important Notes This assignment is about honest reflection, not agreement or disagreement with the author. There is no single correct response. Your reflection should demonstrate engagement with the reading and thoughtful consideration of your own learning process. Writing quality, clarity, and effort matter. Responses that rely on general statements without engaging specific ideas from the reading may not receive full credit.

Discuss This: Prenatal & Early Development

Scientists have discovered (based on equipment like the fMRI) that:

“Babies are thinking long before they talk.”

As you consider the readings for this week and the statement above in particular answer the following questions.

Note – number the questions in your answer and use a separate paragraph for each portion of the discussion prompt.

    1. How do these findings impact how we should approach interaction with babies? Be specific, detailed and include scholarly support from our textbook for your assertions or any facts offered. Include a personal or professional example from your own life.

    2. How would you go about explaining the importance of these findings to parents, family members, and caregivers? What kind of empirical evidence would you offer? Be specific, detailed and include scholarly support from our textbook for your assertions or any facts offered. Include a personal or professional example from your own life.

    3. Offer a few clear examples of behaviors that have an impact on the development of babies that caregivers may not automatically recognize? Be specific, detailed and include scholarly support from our textbook for your assertions or any facts offered (no lists – write essay style). Include a personal or professional example from your own life.

  • PSY 530 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

What is cognitive dissonance? What role does it play in regards to attitude and/or behavior change? What is the role of external rewards in regards to attitude change?

How might a new car salesperson use what he/she knows about cognitive dissonance (sometimes called buyer’s remorse) to make a customer more content with their purchase (and less likely to want to return their vehicle)?

Use research from the to support your claims.

  • Psy 520 Reaserach Methods in PSYC II

Describe your research question for your final project. What is the null hypothesis of your research question?

Type I and type II errors are a result of incorrectly accepting or rejecting the null hypothesis. In what way might you commit a type I error and reject a null hypothesis when you should have accepted it? Provide and explain an example based on your research question.

What about a potential type II error? In what way might you accept the null when you should reject it? Provide and explain an example from your research question.

For both points above, be specific about how errors could creep into your final project. Be specific about how you could adjust your research design to address these potential errors.

Why is it important for researchers to understand these errors?

When responding to your classmates, address their assessment of the error risks in their projects from a scholarly perspective.

  • Week 2 discussion

The emergence of modern science began as a move from theological-based reasoning to observational- and empirically-based reasoning. Two areas of reasoning evolved from this time, inductive and deductive. For example, Galileo, using mathematics and observation, explained the laws of the physical world through deductive reasoning. Francis Bacon, however, sought answers to questions of the physical world through observation and devised many theories from these observations. Cartesian dualism is one school of thought that examined the mind-body relationship. Several branches of scientific thought developed which was based in part on the philosophical underpinnings of the region (e.g. British, French and German). These included positivism, rationalism, and empiricism. From these philosophical views emerged a focus on understanding behavior or more precisely the mind. Compare and contrast the views of Galileo and Bacon. Explain why these two scientists had an impact on the development of psychology. Compare the basic principles of Rene Descartes, Immanuel Kant, and John Locke. How do these principles differ in their perspectives of the mind-body relationship? What do these principles add to the comprehensive understanding of psychology as a science? University Standard Rubric. Explain the cultural and even nationalistic influences on how the different schools of thought developed (positivism, rationalism, and empiricism)? Explain how theological or religious beliefs influence the different schools of thought as they had done to the philosophical views of early centuries? Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning. Comment on the postings of at least two peers. Provide an analysis of each peers postings while also suggesting specific additions or clarifications for improving the discussion question response.
  • How adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) influence long-term…

    Please check the original instructions:

When writing an essay (1000-1500 words) on how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) influence long-term mental health, begin by briefly defining ACEs and explaining their origin in the study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente. Clarify that ACEs include experiences such as abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, and emphasize that these stressors occur during critical stages of development.

In your introduction, highlight why the topic is important, noting that higher ACE scores are strongly associated with increased risk of depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and other long-term mental health conditions. End the introduction with a clear thesis statement, such as arguing that ACEs contribute to long-term mental health problems through biological stress responses, disrupted emotional development, and impaired social relationships.

In the body paragraphs, organize your discussion around key mechanisms. First, explain how chronic childhood stress can alter brain development and the bodys stress-response system, increasing vulnerability to mental illness. Next, discuss psychological factors, such as difficulties with emotional regulation or insecure attachment patterns, that may stem from early adversity. Support your points with research findings rather than general statements.

Conclude by summarizing how ACEs influence mental health across biological and psychological pathways. You may briefly mention resilience and protective factors to show balance in your analysis. Ensure your essay maintains a formal tone, integrates empirical evidence, and follows APA citation guidelines.

Please check my draft and rewrite it, the paper should follow the requirements above.
