  • Public sector motivation

Instructions: The Public Sector Service and Public Sector Motivation assignment is due by 11:59 pm est. on Sunday of week four. This assessment is a standalone written assignment, and will help to establish a researching, and writing, foundation to prepare students to complete further academic papers in other classes in the EMPA program. In addition to the qualifying academic journal articles used in the annotated bibliography section of this assignment, students should carefully read the information from chapter 5 of the Henry textbook and closely review information at the following website: Virtual Museum of Public Service ().

Framework: The framework for this assignment should include 1) an introductory paragraph with a clear thesis statement, 2) a detailed analysis of properly cited course concepts from the assigned readings that is descriptive of what constitutes public service and public sector motivation, and 3) an annotated bibliography for five scholarly journal articles located via the online library at NCCU that are focused on understanding the scope and influence of these concepts in practice as it relates to public management. Please avoid submitting this assignment in PDF format. Also, major assignments should be saved in a word file that indicates the students name (first, last) and the assignment title (for example, FirstName_LastName_ResearchPaperPrep).

1-Introductory Paragraph and Thesis Statement: When completing the Research Paper Prep assignment, students should first provide an introductory paragraph that includes the following general items: a clear and detailed thesis statement, a summary of the key topics that will be discussed in this assignment, and observations regarding the influence of the paper topic(s) on public sector management. In general, the introductory paragraph will ultimately provide the reader with an initial conceptual road map highlighting what the analysis throughout the assignment will be about and what that analysis is trying to accomplish. It also introduces the reader as to how the paper topic is important to public administration and has broadly influenced public sector management. The NCCU Writing Studio provides helpful summative information regarding some elements that should be included in a thesis statement

2-Public Sector Service and Public Sector Motivation:After reviewing information from chapter 5 of the Henry textbook and the Virtual Museum of Public Service (), students will provide a detailed discussion of properly cited information regarding all elements associated with public sector service and motivation that is a full 2 pages in length. This includes (but is not limited to) highlighting what constitutes public sector service, defining and discussing what constitutes public sector motivation, observing the role(s) in public sector management, analyzing public sector motivation vs. private sector motivation, and introducing examples in practice of public sector service and public sector motivation.

3-Annotated Bibliography: The five proposed journal articles (which will be located only via the online library at NCCU) should include an annotated bibliography for each entry. An annotated bibliography includes a summary that explains what each article focuses on and how each proposed journal article directly relates to Public Sector Service and Motivation. The annotated bibliography for each journal article should be written in your own words and include some cited information from the selected article (i.e. avoid cut-pasting the abstract from the article into your assignment).
