Data representation and frequency distribution analysis
Suppose that you have two sets of data. The first set is a list of all the injuries that were seen in a clinic in a month’s time. The second set contains data on the number of minutes that each patient spent in the waiting room of a doctor’s office. You can make assumptions about other information or variables that are included in each data set. For each data set, propose your idea of how best to represent the key information. To organize your data, would you choose to use a frequency table, a cumulative frequency table, or a relative frequency table? Why? What type of graph would you use to display the organized data from each frequency distribution? What would be shown on each of the axes for each graph? Follow-up Post Instructions Respond to at least one peer. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification. Consider how different distributions might affect the different graphs. How might other variables affect the graphs? How could graphs be made to be biased? If a graph were biased, how might you change it to guard against that bias? Writing Requirements Your initial post must contain: In-text citations in APA format to highlight where references were utilized. List references in APA format at the bottom of your initial post. -
book review
. Reviews should be a minimum of 800 words (no maximum), and should conform to the formatting instructions in the course assignment guidelines. This assignment is not like a book report you may have completed in high school; you should avoid summarizing or re-stating the themes of the book. Instead, use your book review to address the following three questions:
- What does the text suggest about the gender politics of white nationalism?
- Based on the authors or editors approach to the issues or any explicitly stated philosophy, what is the texts underlying political and social agenda? The answer to this question should not be: the books subject is…, but rather, an identification of what the authors or editors want. What changes in policy, practice, or social structures do they want to bring about? What are they trying to persuade their readers of?
- How does the text relate to the course reserve readings, lectures or other materials? Be very explicit— citing other readings, concepts from lectures, films, or speakers specifically. What does the text add to your understanding of the issues we are addressing in this course? Just mentioning other materials is not adequate. You should explain how they relate to the book or vice versa.
PICK ANY OF THE BOOK LISTED:
Book Review Text Options:
- Strong Men: Mussolini to the Present, by Ruth Ben-Ghiat
- Inside Organized Racism: Women in the Hate Movement, by Kathleen M. Blee
- Race, Gender & Class in the Tea Party: What the Movement Reflects About Mainstream Ideologies, by Meghan A. Burke
- Gender & Jim Crow: Women and the Politics of White Supremacy in North Carolina, 1896-1920, by Glenda Elizabeth Gilmore
- Taking America Back for God: Christian Nationalism in the United States, by Andrew L. Whitehead & Samuel L. Perry
- The Divine Institution: White Evangelicalisms Politics of the Family, by Sophie Bjork-James
- Pastels & Pedophiles: Inside the Mind of QAnon, by Mia Bloom & Sophia Moskalenko
You should only review books listed in the syllabus; substitutions will not be accepted. Book reviews will be graded based on: a) Clearly answering each of the three questions above, and b) Demonstrating that youve read, engaged with and thought carefully about the book. Grammar and writing style are not specifically part of the grading criterion, although obviously your review should be read-able. You do not need to include a bibliography in your book review, unless you use materials besides your review text and the course reserve readings. There are no other formatting requirements beyond those explicitly specified here or in the assignment guidelines.
ormatting, Citations and Submission:
For written assignments, please use double-spacing, 12-point font, and insert page numbers. When citing materials, you may use any academic citation style (e.g. APA, MLA, ASA), as long as you use it consistently, and cite all materials you use. You may either use in-text citation with a bibliography, or you may use footnotes or endnotes instead. Uploads may be in PDF or Word only. Bruin Learn will not open documents uploaded in Pages, or other alternate word processing software.
Grammar and writing skill are not part of the grading criterion, although proofreading is strongly recommended. There is no grade penalty for exceeding the minimum word count, but there is a grade penalty for writing less than the minimum specified in the assignment.
For all assignments, there are no hidden or unstated requirements. There are no expectations regarding style or formatting beyond those explicitly indicated in the syllabus and/or Bruin Learn. If the assignment instructions do not indicate that you have to follow a particular essay format or writing style, then you do not need to. Please review the instructions carefully.

Reflection
Based on your readings from M.K. Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., reflect on your feelings and opinions concerning civil disobedience. Your response should be a minimum of 400 words and include 12 MLA citations from the course readings, using in-text quotes rather than paraphrasing.
Questions to Address:
- Is civil disobedience an effective means of changing society? Consider the dangers of this kind of resistance. Should individuals be prepared to go to jail (as did Gandhi, King, and their supporters) or enter into volatile situations, knowing they might experience bodily harm or even death, in order to make a point? Could the American civil rights movement have moved forward without this strategy in place?
- What stood out to you from your reading of Letter from a Birmingham Jail? What was Dr. Kings strategy for dismantling racist systems?
Make sure to connect specific quotes from the readings to your analysis and explain how they illuminate the effectiveness and challenges of civil disobedience.

Critical Reflection 1
The Four Noble Truths speak to the reality of suffering and its source in the endless craving and desire we experience. For this assignment, I am asking you to observe your own patterns of craving for two days. In a 900-1200 word reflective essay, please address the following questions: What do you crave? How does it feel when you are craving? What draws you to this craving? Is it something you deem to be good or worthwhile? Is there anything that crosses over from desire to addiction for you? The internet? Your phone? Texting? Coffee? Exercise? TV? Movies? Gambling? Going out? Gaming? The news? Food? Busyness? Being with other people? Being around a particular person? Once you observe your pattern of craving, try stepping back from that craving for short periods of time to observe your reaction to that experience. Are you able to withdraw from the craving? Do you experience agitation or dissatisfaction when you do so? When you return to it, does the experience of satisfying the craving result in contentment or more craving? How did it feel to observe yourself doing things you always do unconsciously? Consider also discretely observing another person briefly for the same patterns and noticing how desire functions in their life. As you observe yourself, do so in a non-judgmental way. Remember, Buddhism critiques how we desire, not what is desired. The goal of the exercise is to become cognizant of the innumerable little and big things we are always wanting, desiring, grasping after, and to observe the ways in which we do or do not suffer as a result. It is essentially putting the first two Noble Truths to the test. Be sure that you are making connections to the class readings (no outside sources) as your describe and reflect on your experience. Submit your paper electronically via Canvas under the Critical Reflection #1 assignment. Papers must be uploaded as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file (not just typed in the Text Submission box, or as a Pages or .rtf file). Each paper should be 900-1200 words, typed, single-spaced, 12-point font, and 1-inch margins. It should be written in polished, academic style. Do not skip lines. In the upper left corner of the paper, give the following information in this format: Name Spring 2026 TH4480 Critical Reflection #1 Failing to meet any of these expectations will result in a loss of points on the assignment. The papers will be graded primarily on depth of reflection (were the questions at hand genuinely engaged and considered, or did the reflection paper show just a passing interaction with it?). **Remember the Honor Code you signed at the start of this semester. All papers will be run through Canvas anti-plagiarism system, which crosschecks submissions against other student papers and websites. The use of generative AI at any stage of the writing process is not permitted. *This assignment is an adaptation of a project described by Fran Grace in her article Learning as a Path, Not a Goal: Contemplative PedagogyIts Principles and Practices, Teaching Theology and Religion 14/2 (April 2011).Attached Files (PDF/DOCX): ThichNhatHanhTheMiracleofMindfulnessCh1-3.pdf, Buddhism The Ted K Archive.pdf, Khyentse2CChapter328229.pdf, The Facts of Life.pdf, TathagatagarbhaSutraExcerpt.pdf, ThichNhatHanhTheMiracleofMindfulnessCh1-3.pdf, SatipatthanaSutra.pdf, GethinFoundationsofBuddhism2CChapter4.pdf, ThichNhatHanhTheMiracleofMindfulnessExercisesinMindfulness.pdf, Critical Reflection 2.pdf, GethinFoundationsofBuddhism2CChapter4.pdf
