  • Module/Unit Five Journal Assignment

Respective to Walter Mosley’s Devil in a Blue Dress so as to receive full credit for this assignment,

After reading Walter Mosley’s Devil in a Blue Dress

Write/type out an entry in our journal after each two chapters. Include the following four detailed reflections in addition to the four points listed below, Im also looking for a rich discussion with each chapter or if the novel is lengthy, more than one chapter might be discussed together. Does Easy take life in stride, generally speaking, or does he push back at circumstances he decides are important to him? How do we face live when we are faced with adversity. When do we push or when do we settle? When do we think about trying something new than our past options. Interesting novels make us think about the substance of our lives. Can we feel that? Can we show our depth of thought?

Write/type out an entry in your journal after each two chapters. Include the following four detailed reflections in addition to the four points listed below, Im also looking for a rich discussion with separate chapters or chapters that work well together. More than one chapter might be discussed together. What do we do when we think we deserve more but come up short? How do we reconcile hardship in our lives? How might we show our depth of thought?

    a. Describe the action from the point of view of the narrator, Easy Rawlins, and how the action moves forward. Distinguish not only what Easy learns but share or summarize its importance from Easy’s perspective.

    b. What characters help Easy in his task? Mention how they help him.

    c. What characters hinder or obstruct Easy with his job? Specify how they do not help him.

    d. Explain what we appreciate most about the chapter (s) and what we think about Easy’s growth and/or obstacles that he tackles.

  • Module 2 Data Access Applied Assignment Part 2

Be sure to view the course media and complete your readings before you complete any assignments.

Submit only one MS Word document with the various assignments parts included (screenshots included, if applicable). Be sure to attach your R Studio file as well.

To be successful in the assignments consider the following tips:

    • Start early
    • Meet assignment requirements
    • Include comments (explains your code) in your code (remember to use the # sign for comments)
    • Check that your code works
    • Submit your output showing outcomes and that the code worked
    • Submit one Microsoft Word file and not multiple (unless otherwise specified)

You will need the following files for this assignment

If you have trouble with this file you can create your own in R Studio relatively quickly using the approach I include in this

. Be sure to add data to your table and to show that your table has data.

The files that follow are correlated and were derived from the same system. You will notice common identifiers across the files. Click on this

for documentation describing each file and its content.

    1. (The data was last collected in 2012, so only ICD-9 codes are represented)

You now have experience writing some code in R. Before data can be analyzed or visualized you need to have access to it. As you already noted, the data will come in a variety of formats including structured formats such as relational databases. Here I would like you to practice reading a SQLite database (healthcare.db) into R Studio and writing some SQL code in R Studio to access content in the database, and also create your own database. This is more advanced than some of the approaches you worked with in Module 1, but important for health informatics practitioners to know.

2.1 Write these lines of code to read this database into R Studio. These lines of code will enable you to create a connection to the referenced database (healthcare.db)

    install.packages(“devtools”)

    devtools::install_github(“rstats-db/RSQLite”)

    library(DBI)

    library(RSQLite)

    con <- dbConnect(SQLite(), “healthcare.db”)

    1. Write a line of R code to show what table (there is only one) is in the database
    2. Write R code to access the content of the specific table
    3. Write R code to select state ID =1 and state name
    4. Write R code to add data to the table (you will add 10 IDs and 10 state names)
    5. Write R code to show the columns in the table Copy and paste screenshots with the code and output into an MS Word document. You will be submitting only 1 MS Word document for this assignment. Be sure to include comments in all your coding assignments, even if not specified, it is best practice to do so. Please also include your R Studio file so I can run your code (this will be required for any assignment where you are working in software. You will also submit your Tableau files in future modules). (25 points)

2.2 As future practitioners and leaders in health informatics you will find that you will have access to quite a bit of electronic health data. Before you think about creating nice plots or visualizations or asking someone to do this, it will be important to begin by asking yourself what question you want answered by the data. Review the admissions, ICD-9 procedures, diagnosis, and patient .csv files and think of two interesting questions that you would be able to ask if you combined several of these datasets.

Your response should include the following:

    -The interesting questions

-What datasets you would consider combining/merging and why. Merging is possible when you have common identifiers across tables or files. For example, if you have the patient IDs in two files then that data could feasibly be related. (10 points total)

    2.3

    a. Access Power BI and submit a screenshot of your Power BI workspace

    b. Install Tableau if you haven’t yet. Begin exploring Tableau now that it is installed.

(you will need to login with your UC username and password to access the entire video)

Practice importing the four .csv files in the module into Tableau and drag one file into Tableau Preview. Capture a screenshot showing your data in Preview and add it to your MS Word document. How many rows and columns are displayed? Do you see any issues with your data that may need correcting? Explain. (15 points)

Add all your responses and screenshots to one MS Word document and submit only one document for this assignment.

  • The Role of Ethics in Research

This weeks readings focus on the interrelationship and intersection between legal research and qualitative research.

In the Unit 3 writing assignment, you were asked to identify either a typology for your research project approach or a critical genre that becomes your research project approach. In that assignment, you were asked to briefly explain the reason for your choice. Since then, you may have stayed consistent with your choice of genre, or as you have delved further into the research, you might have changed this approach. In any case, you are now being asked to determine your study’s basic data-collecting methods.

Chapter 6 of the text Illustrates basic data collection methods. We are reminded that many studies use a combination of these methods while others stay with a single method. They include (1) observation, (2) in-depth interviewing, (3) ethnographic interviewing, (4) phenomenological interviewing, (5) focus group interviewing, (6) life histories, and (7) narrative inquiry.

Building upon what you have written in your Unit 3 writing assignment, provide the following information in 57 pages:

    1. Which of these data collection methods are most suited to your study?
    2. Explain your understanding of your chosen data collection method and why it suits your study.
    3. Describe your participant population as recipients of this method.
    4. Briefly list three or four areas or lines of questioning that you would pursue with your participant population.
    5. Describe your intended audience, for example, policymakers, lawmakers, or other stakeholders.
    6. From the data you are planning to gather, briefly list three or four areas that would be responsive to the interests of policymakers, lawmakers, or other stakeholders. (Note that the interests of your participant population and those of policymakers, lawmakers, and other stakeholders will differ in some ways.)

In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the assignment, a successful paper must also meet the following criteria:

    • Include a cover page and references page in 10- to 12-point font (Arial, Courier, and Times New Roman are acceptable).
    • Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained.
    • Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.).
    • Writing should be well-ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful.
    • Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics.
    • Appropriate citation style should be followed.

You should also make sure to:

    • Include a title page with full name, class name, section number, and date.
    • Include an introductory and concluding paragraph and demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English.
    • Use examples to support your discussion.
    • Cite all sources on a separate reference page at the end of your paper and cite within the body of your paper using APA format and citation style. For more information on APA guidelines, visit Academic Tools.

  • Discussion

Infection control policies and protocols are implemented in all types of healthcare facilities. Increased infection rates, especially those from Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO), in long-term care facilities can lead to higher mortality and recurring hospitalizations. Increased infection rates have a negative impact on the quality and cost of care (Peterson et al., 2016). It is important for the registered nurse to recognize and utilize evidence-based practices to provide high-quality care and to improve processes where needed. Being an agent for change to improve client outcomes is the responsibility of professional nurses. Find one (1) evidence-based tool that can be used to prevent multi-drug resistant organisms. Discuss this tool, how its already implemented in your current practice setting or how it could be useful to your current practice setting. As the RN, describe the education you would provide to staff on proper infection control practices.

  • Redlining

Instructions Segregation: Redlining Assignment The discriminatory practice of redlining is arguably the core historical process that shaped racial and class segregation in US cities. I am asking you to explore research to develop your own understanding of redlining and its significance. For this assignment, you are asked to write a focused analytical essay, in which you are to break down and examine the core components of redlining based on your review of secondary scholarly sources. Using search engines such as Google and Google Scholar, select 3-5 secondary sources to develop an analysis of redlining practices and the ongoing socioeconomic consequences of redlining for cities. Your essay should focus on the practice of redlining specifically; try to avoid broader discussion of segregation (be mindful of the assignments word limit). Please note: You must include a bibliography (not counted in the assignments word limit) that lists all sources which you have consulted in writing the essay and you must cite sources within the essay itself (e.g, Smith 2021: 76-78). You may use any standard citation style (MLA, Chicago, etc.), just use whatever style you decide upon consistently throughout the essay. The document text must be formatted with 11 or 12 point font, double spacing. The MAXIMUM WORD COUNT for your analytical essay is 675 words.
  • Assessment 2 Discussion paper

Read the following case study involving Maria and George and address the *considerations to guide completing this assessment task, in a 2,250-word essay. You should also be guided by these three questions:

    1. What does a reading of the case study reveal in terms of some issues to do with power, oppression, violence and trauma?
    2. What aspects of the **Rationale can be included in the completed essay to indicate an achievement of the subject learning outcomes?
    3. Does the completed essay meet the ***A2 marking standards and criteria noted in the Rubric?

Case study: You are a domestic violence social worker working in a large non-government organisation which is contracted by different levels of government to provide aged care services, early intervention services and domestic violence counselling. It is not unusual for the social workers to work across the three programs.

As a result of a restructure some clinical positions are to be lost, although, it is not known which ones. This has left all the social workers wondering if they will still have a job in the future.

A newly married mixed-race couple (Greek/Italian) came to the agency seeking assistance with the wifes parents who live with them. The wifes mother, Maria, is in a wheelchair long term, having been in a car accident. The couple suspect that the husband, George, who is in the early stages of dementia, is abusing his wife when they are not around as Maria has some unexplained bruises.

Reluctant to go to the police, for fear of making things worse, they ask if you can intervene and speak with George and Maria.

While George is receptive to your approach, and agrees to see you again, he denies abusing Maria, claiming she fell out of bed. While your focus is on ensuring Marias safety, while also considering the most effective way to assist her, you are also concerned about your own future, making it difficult to concentrate on any intervention.

*Considerations to guide completing this assessment task using different lenses:

    1. Refer to the Positionality topic and lecture and use your own positionality to discuss how it would influence the way you would work with George to plan Marias care.
    2. Reflect on the topics of Culture and Race Based Violence, Ageing and Elder Abuse, and Disability, what do the readings and lecture notes have to say about how you might work responsively and in an anti-oppressive way with George and Maria?
    3. Review the Organisational Trauma readings and lecture, to describe and analyse how you would care for yourself while facing the changes the organisation is making?
