  • Assignment 3

In week 4, we look into the future of how clinical work will change. Of course, the nurse must be clear about the changing aspects of their practice environment. The section on “Transforming the Nature of Clinical Work” (p.341) is fascinating! There are also great ideas about YOU as a member of your organization.

The assignment asks you to identify changes that you believe will be the future of the health care system and how those changes will impact nurses.

How do you get people to change their behavior in a changing clinical environment? Interesting stuff!

Textbook is Weberg, D., Mangold, K., Porter-OGrady, T., Malloch, K. (2019). Leadership in Nursing Practice, 3th ed., Jones and Bartlett Learning.

Answer each question in 1-3 paragraphs and reply to the peer posts in 1-2 paragraphs

    Question 3

In 1-2 paragrpahs, provide examples of an effective interpersonal experience. What are some of the greatest challenges with interpersonal communication?

Think back to your own experiences with interpersonal communication and discuss what skills are necessary to communicate effectively. What barriers can cause potential challenges or conflict?

In 1-2 paragraphs, respond to the peer post below and provide an additional strategy to overcome one of the barriers identified. Explain your rationale and expand on your peers post to demonstrate that you understand the topic.

    Alicia Martin wrote:

“An effective interpersonal experience occurs when communication builds trust, understanding, and cooperation. According to Levine, helping relationships are built through empathy, respect, and active listening (Levine, 2017).

One example from my work as an Employment Counselor is when I enroll a new client into employment and training programs. Many clients feel nervous, overwhelmed, or unsure about the process. By greeting them warmly, explaining each step clearly, and asking open-ended questions such as, What kind of work are you hoping to find? I help them feel comfortable and respected. This creates trust and encourages clients to share their goals and barriers honestly (Levine, 2017).

Another effective interpersonal experience happens when a client expresses frustration about unemployment or past failures. Instead of judging, I listen carefully and reflect their feelings by saying, It sounds like this has been really discouraging for you. This shows empathy and validation, which Levine identifies as essential to building rapport and helping clients feel understood (Levine, 2017).

A third example is using both verbal and nonverbal communication during enrollment. Maintaining eye contact, using a calm tone of voice, and sitting at the same level as the client communicates respect and support. These behaviors help clients feel safe and increase their willingness to participate in services (Levine, 2017).

    Question 4

In 2-3 paragraphs, provide an example of how an individual might advocate for oneself. In what situations might someone need to speak up to fix a problem? Identify two reasons that self-advocacy is important and discuss skills necessary to self-advocate.

Then, reply to the post below with additional strategies that could be used for self-advocacy. Discuss why you believe these strategies would be most effective in the situation described.

    Falon Liggans wrote:

“If an employee observes that they are often given work outside of their job description without receiving extra pay or recognition, this is an example of self-advocacy. The person sets up a meeting with their supervisor, calmly explains the circumstances, gives concrete examples, and asks for a formal role modification or a redistribution of responsibilities. The person assumes responsibility for safeguarding their professional boundaries and well-being by articulating their demands and suggesting solutions.

When someone’s needs, rights, or objectives are not being sufficiently met, self-advocacy is frequently required. Requesting academic accommodations, confronting unjust treatment at work, obtaining the proper medical care, or resolving interpersonal conflicts are typical instances. Speaking up in these circumstances is crucial to clearing up misunderstandings, averting further injury, and guaranteeing fair treatment (Test et al., 2005).

Self-advocacy is crucial because it gives people authority over decisions that impact their life.People who speak up for themselves are more likely to get the resources and assistance they need, which improves their employment, health, and educational results (Bandura, 1997). Self-advocacy fosters self-assurance and personal development, which is a second factor. People who engage in self-advocacy become more confident in themselves and are better able to deal with obstacles and politely defend their rights (Wehmeyer, 2014).

It takes a few essential abilities to advocate for oneself effectively. Clear thinking expression, attentive listening, and respect are all crucial components of effective communication. People with problem-solving abilities are better able to recognize problems and offer workable solutions. Furthermore, self-awareness is essential since it enables confident and knowledgeable advocacy by recognizing one’s needs, rights, and strengths. Another crucial factor is emotional regulation, which helps people stay composed and concentrated during challenging interactions (Test et al., 2005).

  • Wk 7 Discussion 1 – Research Methodology (Proposed Method an…

Rather than a standard discussion post, this discussion is a peer-review format.

Based on the work that you completed in RES/709: Research Conceptualization and Design, review and revise your research method and design. Remember this is a fluid process and you should expect some suggestions for fine-tuning your method and design.

    For the peer review:

    • State your program of study.
    • State your 1-sentence problem statement.
    • State your 1-sentence purpose statement.
    • Post your research methodology (proposed method and design).

Your faculty member and classmates will provide feedback in preparation for the Wk 7 – Prospectus: Research Methodology (Proposed Method and Design) and Research Questions assignment submission.

Note: This is a peer-review process, and the goal is to provide substantive feedback on the process of stating the research method and design. The focus of your feedback to your peers should be on how the research method and design is formulated and aligned, and not a discussion on the topic.

THE PROFESSOR’S FEEDBACK from her voicenote

The question is that your problem statement is not really clear. It’s not just vague, it does not exist because you mentioned too many problems at the same time. So the problem statement, use the worksheet, the problem statement worksheet that I provided in the discussion question resources and the feedback. Use that worksheet. You need to clearly mention the problem statement is this resulting in that citation. All right, that’s the problem statement. In the purpose statement, you have used terminology that it is not qualitative. For example, investigate the impact. Impact is cause and effect. That’s quantitative research. And I think that you have to, the purpose of your study, it’s not, it’s, I gave you points, but it’s, if you don’t have a problem, I cannot say whether it’s aligned or not. So basically, you don’t have a purpose statement if you don’t have a problem statement. So refine your problem statement and align those two. Read the worksheets, the problem and the purpose statement worksheets, and once you have done that, then you can, I’ll give you more feedback in the upcoming week. If you have questions, please reach out.

For this discussion, please make a post about the material covered in this topic. It can be anything you found interesting, something you were confused by, a personal experience you’ve had, etc.

All topic discussions will be graded , so hopefully, this helps remove any confusion about “what the professor is looking for.”
