Another big part of reaching a Personal Legend is learning how to deal with fear and the possibility of failing. Many people stop chasing their dreams because they are afraid of getting hurt or looking like a failure. The Alchemist helps Santiago realize that staying still is actually more dangerous than taking a risk. He tells him, “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself” (134). This means that worrying about what might go wrong actually causes more pain than the actual problem does. Society today is often obsessed with being perfect, but Coelho argues that you have to be okay with making mistakes to get anywhere. Santiago learns that even if he hits a dead end, its just part of his education. The book says, “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure” (146). This connects to human beings everywhere because we all face moments where we want to give up. By pushing past that fear, we prove that our dream is more important than our comfort. This shows that the journey isn’t just about luck; its about having the “grit” to keep going when things get scary.

False consciousness analysis
CSCJ 388: Sociological Theory – Final Paper Requirements
In completing your paper, make sure that it includes the following:
1. Title of Paper: Identify the specific title for your paper consistent with your understanding of the importance of linking the theorist or theory you selected with the major idea(s). This should be entered at the top of the first page of your paper. (10 points)
- The specific sociological theory I am focusing on is the concept of false consciousness developed by Karl Marx.
- False consciousness refers to a situation in which members of the working class adopt beliefs and values that reflect the interests of the ruling class, even when those beliefs work against their own economic or social interests. I chose this theory because it helps explain why inequality continues to exist in capitalist societies, especially when those most affected by inequality sometimes support systems that disadvantage them.
- False consciousness is Marxs idea that the working class may accept dominant beliefs that justify inequality, even when those beliefs harm them. I chose this theory because it helps explain why people support systems that reinforce social and economic inequality.
2. Chapter Link: Identify the chapter (by chapter name and number) that is linked to your paper from the required text by Michele Dillon. You may also identify relevant chapters from the recommended supplements and the additional readings). (10)
- Dillon, M. (2019). Introduction to Sociological Theory: Theorists, Concepts, and their Applicability to the Twenty-First Century. John Wiley & Sons – Chapter 1
3. Theoretical Model/Approach: Identify and discuss the broader theoretical model or framework/perspective that best reflects the chosen theorists major contentions. Also discuss the more specific theory that was selected (identified in the paper title) and how it is aligned with the broader theoretical model/approach. (5, 10)
4. Theory Applicability: Identify a social phenomenon or a current social issue and discuss how the problem can be explained by your chosen theory. (5, 10)
5. Key Terms/Concepts: Identify and discuss the sociological key terms or concepts that are most important in understanding the theory chosen. (5, 10)
6. Comparisons: Discuss how the major ideas of the theory and theorist you selected are similar to the primary thought of at least one other theorist covered this semester. (10, 10)
7. References: Attach a reference page using sources from the scholarly body of literature. To ensure you are including acceptable sources, access the databases discussed in class (for example, SocIndex and JSTOR). Be sure to include the required text as one reference. Also include the supplemental texts if you indeed used these. A minimum of five references from scholarly journals, as discussed in class, should be included. Although Chicago, ASA or APA style is preferred, you may use MLA or the format used in your specific discipline. (10)
Make sure that your paper is consistent throughout. The theory should clearly explain the problem you have identified. Terms and concepts discussed should appropriately relate so that the reader is easily able to comprehend what you want to convey. (5)
In addition to all of the above, make sure you have incorporated the work you did leading to this point. This includes the criteria previously reviewed. The final work, (due no later than the last day of class) is a concise paper between 5-7 double-spaced pages (excluding the reference page). Use Arial typeface, 12-font and submit as a word upload (no text entry as this will not be an option upon submitting to Canvas). Be sure to number your pages.

Trauma-informed care in social work
Assessment Description The purpose of this assignment is to deepen your understanding of trauma-informed care (TIC) practices by critically analyzing case scenarios and applying key principles of social work to real-world contexts. From the “Case Studies” attachment, choose one of the cases and respond to the following prompts in a 750-1,000-word essay, citing three to five scholarly sources from the GCU library. Address the following: Explain possible types of trauma the client in the selected case study has experienced within its social context. Describe a culturally sensitive response to address both trauma and diversity to strengthen the therapeutic alliance. Explain how a social worker with the Christian worldview would respond in a culturally sensitive way to the client in the selected case study. Discuss how differences in culture, race, gender, age, class, and other aspects of identity and privilege might impact the helping process if you were in the role of the social worker helping the client in the selected case study. Using the NASW Code of Ethics, describe at least one ethical standard or principle that could be used to support your work with the selected client. Explain why this ethical standard or principle you identified is important to this specific client. I have attached “case study” work sheet for assignment.

Notes for the Bibliography from professor:
Thank you for submitting your Annotated Bibliography Assignment, Elizabeth. Firstly, I want to acknowledge the time and effort required on an assignment like this. It takes commitment to gather, read, and annotate sources about a topic.
I found your bibliography related to Beloved by Toni Morrison to be informative, but needs a little work on being formatted in alphabetical order. Your annotations appear to be particularly strong in summarizing key elements but could use a little more info on the potential relevance to your research interest.
This should be a good start or foundation for developing your research thesis. The annotations will hopefully be valuable to you as your research moves forward. Remember Proverbs 16:3: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Stay focused, and continue striving for excellence in your research.
Notes for the Literature Review:
Excellent response to the writing prompt! Your literature review of Measure for Measure was couched in an exploration of Feminist Criticism, New Historicism, and Psychoanalytic Criticism. The effort was well-documented.
Literary criticism plays a vital role in the academic discussion of an author and his or her works. By examining the various interpretations and perspectives offered by critics or critical methods, we gain a deeper understanding of the text and its historical, cultural, and social context. Lit crit encourages us to think critically about the author’s intentions, the themes explored, and the significance of the work within the broader literary canon.
Additionally, lit crit can challenge our preconceived notions and expand our horizons. Turning a critical eye toward a text invites us to engage in thoughtful writing with others who may have different viewpoints (or similar ones). As Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ears of the wise seek it out.”
Keep on researching! I look forward to where this takes you.
