  • topic research

Answer the following questions (Your response should be no more than 1 page).

    • Which topic did you choose and why? Describe your interest in the topic.
    • What specific aspects of the topic might you want to find out more about? For example, if youre interested in the topic sex work, you may want to find out more about sex workers experiences of victimization.

    PART 2 – Justification

Answer the following questions (Your response should be no more than 2 pages not including bibliography at the end).

    • Why is this topic relevant to criminology and criminal justice?
    1. Go to the library page (or scholar.google.com library page is better) and run a search using your general and specific topic as keywords. Look at how many academic (peer-reviewed) sources you find. Look at how many were published in the last 5 to 10 years. This should give you a hint of the relevance of the topic. The more you find, the more interesting it seems to be for sociologists/criminologists. You can compare the numbers by searching a different topic.
    2. Read a couple of abstracts and/or introductions of some of the articles you find, and see what researchers are saying about the relevance of your topic. Use this as evidence and support for your justification. REMEMBER TO CITE YOUR SOURCES!
    • Why learning about your topic is relevant to our society?
    1. By our society I mean the world, not necessarily the US. If you choose to examine a topic outside of the US (highly recommended, as I do research and I am interested in things outside of the US ), explain why it is relevant for that place or how knowing about what happens in another country will assist people (researchers, policymakers, professionals) in the US.
    2. One way of assessing social relevance is by looking at the news. Do a general search of your topic and see what news websites (not social media) are saying or reporting about it. For instance, if you decide to work on sex workers, if you find recent news items about sex workers in our area that could be a sign that the topic is relevant. But even if you dont find much, you can still make the case of why it is important for our society to learn about it. REMEMBER TO CITE YOUR SOURCES.

  • Research Paper

Write the Literature Review section (~5 pages, 1,3001,500 words) for a hospitality research proposal in APA 7 format, double-spaced, academic tone. The research examines whether hospitality students who participate in student-run hotel programs have a higher chance of obtaining employment after graduation. The study focuses on experiential learning environments such as student-run or training hotels, with the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration student-run hotel model used as an example. The research will use purposive (judgment) sampling, interviewing undergraduate hospitality students at Cornell who have relevant experience or knowledge about student-run hotels. The literature review should synthesize prior academic research to explain how experiential learning in hospitality education contributes to professional skills, industry readiness, and employability, while also identifying gaps in the current literature regarding the specific impact of student-run hotels on career outcomes.

The literature review should cover the following themes and support them with 812 peer-reviewed academic sources (APA citations and reference list included). Sources may be found through academic databases such as JSTOR, Google Scholar, or the NYU Libraries system.

    • Experiential learning in hospitality education (including Kolbs experiential learning theory)
    • Student-run or training hotels as practical learning environments
    • Skill development gained through hands-on hospitality training (operations, leadership, teamwork, customer service)
    • Career readiness and employability outcomes for hospitality students
    • Research gap: limited studies specifically examining how student-run hotels influence students employment opportunities after graduation

Goal: Research proposal is one of the major assignments of this course. It involves developing an introduction of the research with a clear, researchable purpose statement and research questions, conducting a literature review that informs the development of that purpose statement and future research, and deciding on an appropriate research method to answer the research questions. Learning objectives: After completion of this assignment, you will be able to: To understand the structure of a research paper introduction. To write the introduction section of the research paper. To create a literature review for a particular research topic. To identify information from published peer-reviewed articles and professional publications useful for explaining the topic, main variables, and significance of your research. To summarize and synthesize the findings of other studies or professional publications related to the studied topic and research questions. To choose an appropriate research method to answer the research questions. To communicate clearly and effectively in writing. To write references in APA 7 style. To apply critical thinking skills. Instructions and requirements: 1. This is the group work. You will need to discuss the structure and context of the research proposal with your group. Each group member needs to write a part of the paper and suggest edits or improvements for other group members’ parts. The group leader or the group member who is good at writing papers should edit the final version of the paper and submit it to Brightspace. All group members should participate equally in this assignment. 2. The research proposal should include the following main sections: Introduction, Literature Review, Proposed Methods, and References. 3. Please include all necessary information in the introduction of your research. The introduction should be about 2 pages long. Hint: The structure and content of the introduction section of the research paper were discussed in the Module 4 lecture and the assigned textbook chapter for that class meeting. 4. Please include all necessary information in the literature review of your research. TCHT1-UC 1500 Research Methods Dr. Olena Ciftci Hint: The structure and content of the literature review of the research paper were discussed in the Module 5 lecture and the assigned textbook chapter for that class meeting. Make sure that the literature review provides background, credibility, and depth for your study. The literature review content should be closely related to your research project’s purpose statement and research questions. You should identify what other literature contributes to your inquiry or problem and the gaps in the previous literature your research will fill out. Also, you will show the reader that you have read enough of the literature (academic and professional) to place your project in the context of what other studies have done and that you can differentiate good from inadequate research. You should focus primarily on the findings of other studies or papers on very similar topics to your research topic. 5. The proposed methods section should include a short explanation of the type of research you plan to conduct (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed method), methods of collecting data, sample characteristics, and sample size. 6. You need to use not less than 20 recently published sources (e.g., articles, white papers, reports, book chapters, webpages, blogs, etc.), including not less than 10 academic articles. Cite the sources used in the literature review text. Any fact, statement, or argument that is not a common fact should be cited. Provide the list of references for these sources at the end of the paper. The sources cited in the literature review should be relevant to the research project you want to complete in this class. General assignment guidelines The assignment should be submitted to NYU Brightspace in MS Word or PDF file. The paper should be formatted according to APA 7 format. The paper should be about 10 pages long, not including references. Please pay attention to the flow and grammar of the paper. Plagiarism is not tolerated in this class and at the university. The professor will use Turnitin software for the submitted papers. If you have more than 20% similarities with other published or unpublished sources, submitted to other classes papers, or any other form of plagiarism will be detected, your grade for this assignment will be 0. Do not write more than one sentence of direct quote.

  • WiFi Router

What type of Wireless protection do you use on your home network? Advantages, disadvantages? Discuss a couple of different ways that you can “harden” your home wireless network protection. (250 words)

    (BGW320 router)

Please respond to the two students below with 100 word replies

    Student 1:

Hello professor and classmates. On my home network I use WPA3. Its the newest security standard, and honestly, it makes life easier because I dont have to worry as much about someone sneaking onto my network. The big win with WPA3 is that it encrypts everything better than the older stuff, so your data, like passwords, photos, and whatever youre streaming, is way safer. Plus, it helps protect even if someone tries to guess your password. The downside? Some older devices dont support it, so occasionally you have to fall back on WPA2, which isnt as strong but still decent.

To really harden my network, I do a couple of things. First, I change the default router username and password. Youd be shocked how many people never do this, defaults are basically an open door for hackers. Then I turn on MAC address filtering, so only devices I approve can connect. Its not perfect, but its an extra barrier. I also hide my network name by disabling SSID broadcasting, so it doesnt show up in the usual Wi-Fi list, makes it less tempting for random people to try to connect.

All together, its like putting a strong lock on your door, adding a deadbolt, and then putting up a private property sign. It doesnt make it impossible for someone determined, but it definitely makes it harder for casual intruders. Your Wi-Fi and devices feel a lot safer that way. Some routers let you limit the number of devices connected at one time. This isnt perfect, but it helps you notice if an unknown device connects.

    Student 2:

    Hello class,

At home I use WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode on my Wi-Fi. Id rather use WPA3 only, because it is the newer and stronger option, but real life is different than the textbook. In my house there are phones, TVs, game systems, and random smart devices, and not all of them always work right with WPA3 only. So mixed mode is kind of the middle ground. WPA3 is better for security, but WPA2 is still around because a lot of older stuff still needs it. The good part is it gives me stronger protection while still letting everything connect. The bad part is if older devices are still using WPA2, then the network is not as locked down as it could be. The FTC says WPA3 is the newer and better option, but WPA2 is still acceptable for home use if that is what your gear supports.

For me, home network security is not just about setting a password and forgetting it. Im a retired Marine, and I look at it like home security in general: the front door matters, but so do the windows and side doors. One way I harden my network is changing the default router admin login and making sure the Wi-Fi password is strong and different. That matters because if somebody gets into the router settings, they can mess with the whole network, not just the Wi-Fi password. Another thing is keeping the router firmware updated. That part is easy to ignore, but it matters because updates fix known security problems. FTC and CISA both recommend changing default settings and keeping router software up to date.

Another two good ways to harden a home wireless network are turning off WPS and using a guest network. WPS is convenient, but it can weaken security. A guest network helps because it keeps visitors or smart home stuff away from your main devices like your laptop, phone, or anything with personal info on it. That makes sense to me because a lot of weak points in a home network are not the main computer anymore, it is the extra devices people forget about. The FTC also recommends turning off features like WPS and setting up a guest network for better separation.

Overall, I think the best answer is layered security. Use WPA3 if your stuff can handle it. If not, WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode is still solid. Then back it up with stronger passwords, firmware updates, WPS turned off, and a guest network.

    COMM2202 Facilitation Feedback Questions:

My questions I asked for feedback on:

    1. How did I start the discussion? Was I clear with my points? What could I

have done at the start of the discussion to make the conversation flow

    more smoothly?

    2. Did I hand my interruptions/disagreements well during the discussion?

Were there times where I could have done better keep the conversation

    focussed on the main topic?

    3. How did I do in terms of keeping the discussion on track and helping the

group reach a conclusion? Is there anything I can improve in the next

    discussion?

First group members feedback for first all three questions

    1) personally think you introduced the topic really well. You were clear with the concern, and left us to debate the outcome. I think instead of repeating how we should handle the situation, summing up our points against the outcome I think would show which outcome is stronger

    2) During the conversation we never strayed from the main problem, and all topics had a meaning to it’s presence in the conversation. I felt as if you mostly agreed with the last person who spoke. I think joining in the debate and saying “I agree, but” to actively engage with both sides and understood both point of views.

    3) You kept it clear that you were seeking advice on what measures you were wanting to take when we had just started talking about frustrations. I think for future meetings you could sum up your colleges points against the conclusion to see how strong the outcome is.

Second group members feedback for first all three questions

    1) You started the discussion by giving a quick overview of the topic, which helped set the stage for the discussion. This helped set the stage for the discussion and what you were looking for from the discussion. A way to create a smoother discussion would be to be even more explicit about the goals for the conversation to create more of a guideline from the conversation.

    2) You handled interruptions and disagreements calmly and did not let them turn into debates. As a participant I feel this helped the conversation feel respectful and kept people comfortable sharing their ideas. An area of improvement could be stepping in a bit sooner when their were interruptions to keep the conversation on track.

    3) You did a great job bringing the group back when it got off topic. One thing you could do to make your facilitation stronger is being more explicit when the group is getting closer to a conclusion and guiding us toward wrapping up the conversation.

Third group members feedback for first all three questions

    1) One thing you did well at the start of the discussion was clearly introducing the topic and outlining the main focus of the meeting. That helped me understand the purpose of the conversation right away and feel prepared to participate. One area of improvement would be adding a brief opening question to ease into the discussion. That could have helped the conversation feel more natural from the beginning and encouraged earlier participation.

    2) One thing you did well was handling interruptions and disagreements calmly and respectfully. You allowed different perspectives to be shared without shutting anyone down, which helped maintain a safe and open environment. One area of improvement would be redirecting the conversation back to the main topic when it started to drift off. Briefly summarizing the point made and the linking it back to the central question could have helped the discussion stay more focused.

    3) One thing you did well was consistently guiding the conversation back even if the distractor was trying to make it go off track. That made it easier to follow the flow and understand how each point contributed to the overall topic. One area of improvement would be spending a bit more time going over the key ideas at the end to clearly highlight the group’s conclusion. Doing so would make the discussion feel more complete and ensure everyone leaves with an understanding on the main takeaways that were brought up.

  • Tenant Protection Act AB 1482

The main task of this assignment asks you to take a similar approach to your investigation as some of these writers do (for example, Hull and V. Young; Mystals book). In this paper, you will choose and analyze a law, policy, or a custom to try to ascertain what values and beliefs it reflects. Then, you will use the implication of this analysis to consider the laws usefulness (or harm) re: achieving social justice. Choose either a law or policyor an informal rule or customthat you want to investigate for this assignment. This might be a formal law or institutional policy related to a social issue you care about for example, a recent executive order from the White House, a local or state law that affects your hometown, or a university policy from the USC Student Handbook. However, you might instead want to explore an informal rule or custom that is something you have encountered or observed. If you choose to investigate a formal law or institutional policy, try to locate the original law or policy document; you might also find a short and credible source that explains the law and provides some basic context. Choose a brief policy or law (or short portion of a law or policy) that you think can write about in a short paper; you do not need to (nor should you) do research for this assignment beyond what is necessary for you to understand and set out the parameters of the law or rule. If you are analyzing an informal rule or custom, your primary text, or object of analysis, might be a cultural artifact that contains a representation of this rulefor example, a video clip, social media post, music video, television show, film scene, newspaper article, interview, or a Reddit thread. In other words, you should have one primary textan object of study your paper will closely analyze. You should use 1-2 of the course readings as secondary sources to help make your argument or define key terms. And you may include one source of your own to provide background or context about your primary text (law, policy, or rule). Your main task here is analysis of the law, policy, or rule, and that analysis should come from your own thinking about the law or custom and its relation to social justice. For this reason, it may be more manageable to focus on an informal custom or on a policy or law you know wellfor example, a school or work policy or a religious rule. After working through our invention and planning activities, answer the following prompt questions about your law, policy, or custom in a thesis-driven essay of 1,250-1,750 words (approximately 4-6 double-spaced pages in 12 pt. font, using standard margins): What are the most important values, beliefs, and assumptions are reflected in your chosen law, policy or rule? Given this analysis, what are the social justice implications of enforcing, complying with, or resisting this law, policy or rule? Things to Consider Define key terms such as social justice, hegemony, intersectionality, or common sense using our class discussions and the readings. The arrangement and focus of your paper should be conceptual rather than categorical (i.e., not a list of three elements that results in a 5-paragraph essay). Your paper should state a thesis at the end of the introduction. That thesis should be arguable and specific. Focus your analysis on one law, policy, or custom. Explain the law or custom early in the paper, before beginning your analysispossibly in the introduction or a first body paragraph. Use Tenant Protection Act AB 1482 High School Level Writing
  • Financial analysis and strategies to maximize stakeholder va…

Create an 810 slide presentation to your staff describing the analysis you completed, linking what tools you utilized, and why you chose those tools. Use data to support your evidence-based financial decisions. Also explain your recommendations to maximize stakeholder value, translating those to tactical outcomes to be implemented by your staff. Introduction This assessment builds on your prior work in this course. In this assessment, you will: Apply the theories, models, and practices of finance to the financial management of an organization. Analyze financing strategies to maximize stakeholder value. Apply financial analyses to business planning and decision making. Use data to support evidence-based financial decisions. Scenario The senior leadership has approved your recommendations to move forward. You are now tasked with operationalizing your recommendations. Meeting with your staff, you will translate recommendations to strategies. You will explain how you used financial analysis to develop these recommendations and discuss the financial tools you will use to monitor implementation progress. Your Role You are one of the high-performing financial analyst managers at ABC Healthcare Corporation and are under consideration for a promotion to director of operations. (This is a fictitious company and doesn’t refer to any actual company.) Instructions In this assessment, imagine you are presenting to your staff a summary of the report presented to senior leadership earlier (Assessment 2). Create an 810 slide PowerPoint presentation with detailed speaker notes, including citations on slides and in Notes area of the slide. You are required to add a recorded voice-over in which you present and interpret data, graphics, descriptive statistics, et cetera. The voice-over does not replace your Notes section; you must still have written speaker notes for each slide. Follow these steps to complete this presentation: Provide an overview of your analysis, linking what tools (financial statements, ratios, industry trends, capital structure) you utilized in Assessment 2 and why you chose these tools. Start by presenting the overall current financial condition of the company as presented to senior leadership (Assessment 2). Be sure to provide a rationale for why certain tools were utilized. Analyze financing strategies to maximize stakeholder value, such as cost cutting, opening new markets, new products, stock buy-backs, other ways to increase earnings, and possible mergers and acquisitions. This focuses more on how to do better in the future to increase the price of an organization’s stock and incorporates the concept of risk in financial planning. State the recommendations, focusing on ways to maximize stakeholder value through strategies that can be newly adopted by the company, that is, expansion to a new geographical market, the development of a new dividend policy, changes in capital expenditures, reduction of workforce. Include evidenced-based academic citations. What would be the benefit of each of your recommendations, in addition to maximizing stakeholder value in purely financial terms? In addition to the financial strategies, what are other non-financial strategies to maximize shareholder value by increasing the strength of the company, for instance, providing stock options to employees. See the article Shareholder Value Maximization Strategies (available in the Assessment 3: Short-Term Cash Management reading list) for examples of different ways to maximize shareholder value. Evaluate and recommend financial tools that can be used to monitor the progress resulting from the recommendations and the going financial health of the company. Provide a rationale for why these are the most appropriate tools. Important: Remember not just to provide recommendations of strategies, but also to evaluate and recommend tools to monitor progress. Additional Requirements Written communication: Ensure written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message and quality. Be sure to use a bullet format in your slides but also include detailed narrative supported by relevant literature citations in the notes section. References: Use at least three scholarly resources. Consult the MBA Program Guide for information on searching the library’s business databases for scholarly and peer-reviewed articles. The MBA Program Guide Topics section has a page specific to searching within the topic “Managerial Finance,” where you can find some databases and keyword suggestions to help you get started. Length: 810 content slides, in addition to title and reference slides. Font and font size: Use Times New Roman, 12 point. Your faculty will use the Financial Engineering to Enhance Shareholder Value scoring guide to review your deliverable as if they were your CEO. Review the scoring guide prior to developing and submitting your assessment.

    OBJECTIVES

In law, as in life, a lack of applicable information or unclear and imprecise argumentation will put

the brakes on any journey to success. To avoid this pitfall, you must know your facts and craft well-

reasoned arguments and counterarguments. The goal of this paper is to help you practice selecting

accurate information and making legal arguments with precision and clarity.

Information presenting relevant facts about a situation, event, or issue to support the

    interpretation of a legal case.

Argument connecting premises to conclusions in a logical and persuasive manner.

Precision and clarity providing concrete details and communicating ideas effectively with

    the reader.

    TASK

The Editor-in-Chief of an online publication LAWYER IN PROGRESS where you have been recently

    hired has just emailed you.

    Hi,

Well be publishing an e-book on judicial activism and judicial restraint of the Supreme Court in the

legal context of the 2015 case of Obergefell v. Hodges. Id like you to research Obergefell v. Hodges and

write a paper explaining how the Courts decision could be framed in terms of both judicial activism

and judicial restraint. Use the following guidelines.

    1) Define judicial activism and judicial restraint of the Supreme Court. Then, describe and explain

how precedent and law passed by the legislature are used to detect judicial activism and how

precedent is used to detect judicial restraint.

    2) Select and analyze a relevant legal precedent to demonstrate that the Obergefell v. Hodges

decision can be interpreted as an example of judicial activism.

    3) Select and analyze law passed by the legislature to show how the Courts ruling in Obergefell v.

Hodges can be understood as judicial activism. Be sure the law you choose is clearly a federal law

    enacted by Congress.

    4) Select and analyze a relevant legal precedent to prove that the Obergefell v. Hodges decision can

be interpreted as an example of judicial restraint.

Keep the deadline in mind 11:00 a.m. on March 12.

Write the paper according to the managing partners guidelines.

Include your name (first and last) and an original, engaging title for your essay on the top of the

first page of your paper. Your title should be appropriate to the topic and more creative than a

    generic or overly plain heading.

Your paper should have approximately 900-1200 words. Approximately 900-1200 words

means that your paper should have at least 900 words but no more than 1200 words.

Points will be deducted if your paper is not within this range.

Disregard the consolidated cases that were adjudicated together with Obergefell v. Hodges: Bourke

    v. Beshear, DeBoer v. Snyder, Henry v. Himes, Tanco v. Haslam, and Love v. Beshear.1

Points will be deducted if your paper includes references to the consolidated cases.

    CITING SOURCES

For citations, footnotes, etc., use Chicago style. A concise overview of Chicago style is available at

    http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html. When citing

sources, you should reference them in footnotes.2

Keep in mind that citations are references to sources; they lend support to ideas. They

should not replace your own arguments, claims, or reasoning. Always explain how your

    evidence connects to your arguments.

If you are citing PowerPoint slides posted by the course instructor, you do not need to reference

them in footnotes. A bibliography is not required.

    WRITING STYLE

A few general rules for writing papers:

Use correct spelling throughout the paper.

Write in the third person; avoid first-person (I) and second-person (you).

Do not use contractions (e.g., dont, cant, wont).

Avoid indefinite pronouns (e.g., Some say…) and avoid posing and answering rhetorical

questions (e.g., Is this view correct? Some would say so.).

Do not use this without a noun immediately following it (e.g., say this argument, not

    simply this) to prevent ambiguity.

Be precise; choose accurate, meaningful words rather than vague or overly broad terms

    such as good or bad.

Be specific; avoid redundancy, tautologies, and unnecessary filler.

1 A consolidated case is a legal term that refers to the administrative process of combining two or

more separate cases into one for all parties involved. This is usually done when the cases involve

the same facts (or similar facts) or the same legal questions or issues.

2 Unlike endnotes, footnotes are placed at the bottom of the page, not at the end of the paper. For

example, what you are reading right now is a footnote.

    3

Avoid progress-report language and bureaucratic phrasing (e.g., It is now time to

    conclude…).
