Peer reviews are also allowed on this assignment. It is open book, allowing students to use textbooks, notes, readings, and any other course materials to support the assignment. The use of generative AI is strictly prohibited on this assignment. Academic Dishonesty Policies will be enforced. Prompt Each student will submit a 6-page research paper. The paper is focused on the following prompt. Examine how critical thinking methodssuch as reasoning, evaluation, inference, and reflection–contribute to success in a particular profession. Provide concrete examples from your selected field, such as healthcare, business, education, technology, and law, to illustrate how professionals leverage critical thinking to navigate complex challenges and enhance their job performance. While students may cite the readings and materials provided in this course, all papers must cite a minimum of 4 scholarly sources that are not assigned as part of this course. The paper can be broken into 5 sections: Title Page (1 page) Purpose: Provide key information about the paper using either APA or MLA formatting Content Requirements: Students name, assignment title, date, and other information required by either MLA or APA guidelines Introduction (1 page) Purpose: Introduce the topic, identify your selected profession, and clarify which critical thinking method(s) you will explore. Highlight their importance in professional contexts. Content Requirements: Start with a hook, which is an interesting fact, quote, or personal story about critical thinking in the profession or field 1 Provide context by briefly mentioning the role of critical thinking is important in the profession and which critical thinking method or methods you will explore. End with a clear thesis statement summarizing your thesis and what the paper will cover Body (2.5 pages) Purpose: Use scholarly research to support your thesis. Conduct research about how critical thinking promotes success in that field or profession. Sample Full Research Paper Lecture videos & slides Course Handouts Readings, videos, & podcasts Discussion session materials and activities Additionally, students are encouraged to consider the following tips. Answer all questions. Respond to all of the questions in the prompt. Cite your sources. Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any capacity. When in doubt, cite your sources. Use academic writing styles. This is a formal academic assignment. Be sure that you use academic communication techniques. Gonzaga University and Walden University offer resources to help with the essay. Organize your response. Poor organization often prevents students from fully answering the question or prompt. Avoid extremes. Statements that include terms such as meaningless, anarchy, every, all, and powerless represent extremes. As a result, they are typically inaccurate. This reduces the credibility of your response. Stick to one theme and do it well. Incorporating multiple themes often prevents students from thoroughly responding to the prompt. Pick a topic and focus on it. 2 Reflect before submitting. Before turning in your project, ask yourself, What have I omitted? Have I supported my ideas effectively? This will help you fill in the gaps. The assignment must adhere to the following standards: Cite a minimum of 4 external scholarly sources (readings not assigned in the course) Use either APA or MLA citation format, including both in-text citations and full references at the end of the paper Be 6-pages in length (including the title page and reference pages), double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins Submission Instructions The assignment will be submitted in Campuswire as a document file (Microsoft Word) or as a link to a digital document (such as a Google Doc). Students submitting a link must ensure that the permissions allow the professor and TAs to access the document. Links without the correct permissions will need to be corrected and will be considered late assignments, incurring the applicable late assignment penalty. Late assignments will be accepted with a 10% penalty. Students who submit their original work by the 3/6 may resubmit the assignment once for a better grade. Resubmissions can be sent directly to the TA via email or direct message. There is no time limit in Campuswire to complete this assignment, but students must submit their work by the deadlines listed above. midterm
For the first part of the term paper, you need to identify a research topic. So, we’ll need to write a short literature review.
Make sure to identify:
The research topic (this is important as the topic chosen will affect the direction of future assignments)
Why this is an important issue (why is this worth the time you would invest in research?/why should a reader care about the topic? Cite/use at least three academic research articles)
One primary research question
At least three hypotheses
This is a formal writing assignment. Submissions need to be polished and edited. The paper needs to be 1-2 pages in length (double spaced, 12-point New Times Roman font with one-inch margins) and edited for grammatical and spelling mistakes. Any outside sources you might use need to be formally cited within your paper using the APA citation style with a formal reference list included also in APA.

midterm
Criminal biography project.
Select a famous or well-known criminal that you can research. Examples include: Bernie Madoff, Elizabeth Holmes, Ted Kaczynski, John Wayne Gacy, Timothy McVeigh, Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, etc. Please select someone of interest to you; it does NOT have to be someone in this list.
Analyze that individual’s
- early life and social influences
- any major “turning points” in their lives that may have changed them (the emphasis is not on just the biography, but the focus is on how their biography integrates with the theory)
Using one or two different crime theories, analyze their behavior
- what theory best fits, why and provide examples
- evaluate strengths and any limitations of the theories
- what, if anything, could have been done to stop or mitigate this person’s behavior?
Write a 3-page paper, using APA citations, that addresses all the items listed above.
You should be identifying past events in the person’s life that align with theory concepts. Briefly explain their crimes – why and how they occurred. Did labeling play a role? Family life? What does the selected theory explain well and what does it fail to explain?
Grading rubric
Excellent: concise and accurate background and context. Clear and thorough explanation of the crime theory that demonstrates your understanding. Demonstrates strong reasoning, considers alternative theories, thoughtful critique of the theories strengths and failings. Clear paper organization, excellent grammar and mechanical issues.
Good: Accurate summary, could be more thorough and lacks depth. Lacking in specificity of the application of the crime theory, underdeveloped paper that omits some items or evidences a cursory understanding. Clear writing with minor structural issues.
Satisfactory/Fair: Unfocused and unclear organization, lacking context and clarity. Evidences a basic understanding of theory, vague or incorrect terminology. Surface-level application of theory, lists concepts without explanation. Limited analytical assessment. Noticeable grammar/structure issues or problems.

CIvil War Cause and Effects Analysis
Prompt
For this assignment, you will review the tensions that led to the Civil War and the effects that permeated from the Reconstruction Era until today. You will need to utilize your analytical thinking skills to evaluate how this period had a lasting impact on American life using evidence from scholarly sources to support your argument.
Write a 2,000-2,500 word analysis explaining the primary causes of the Civil War and reflecting on its major social and political effects during the Reconstruction period up until today.
First, explain how longstanding tensions over slavery and states’ rights led to the outbreak of the war.
Discuss how Reconstruction policies and constitutional amendments attempted to reshape American society and government, and provide at least one specific example each of a social and a political development during the Reconstruction period, and evaluate how these changes either addressed or failed to resolve the root causes of the Civil War.
Next, consider the lasting impact of the Reconstruction Era on modern American society. In what ways do the unresolved debates and divisions from this period continue to shape contemporary public discourse and policy?
Propose two policy decisions that, if implemented during the Reconstruction Era, might have more effectively addressed the root causes of the Civil War.
Consider whether alternative approaches during Reconstruction could have prevented some of the enduring challenges the United States faces today.

You may refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must also use at least two primary and three secondary external sources and cite them using CMS format.
