  • Forecasting and Analysis

The Eastland Plaza Branch of the Indiana University Credit Union was having trouble getting the correct staffing levels to match customer arrival patterns. On some days, the number of tellers was too high relative to the customer traffic, so that tellers were often idle. On other days, the opposite occurred. Long customer waiting lines formed because the relatively few tellers could not keep up with the number of customers. The credit union manager, James Chilton, knew that there was a problem, but he had little of the quantitative training he believed would be necessary to find a better staffing solution. James figured that the problem could be broken down into three parts. First, he needed a reliable forecast of each days number of customer arrivals. Second, he needed to translate these forecasts into staffing levels that would make an adequate trade-off between teller idleness and customer waiting. Third, he needed to translate these staffing levels into individual teller work assignmentswho should come to work when.

The last two parts of the problem require analysis tools (queueing and scheduling) that we have not covered. However, you can help James with the first partforecasting. The file lists the number of customers entering this credit union branch each day of the past year. It also lists other information: the day of the week, whether the day was a staff or faculty payday, and whether the day was the day before or after a holiday. Use this data set to develop one or more forecasting models that James could use to help solve his problem. Based on your model(s), make any recommendations about staffing that appear.

Each case study must be original discussion and analysis, not counting the title page, reference page, figures, tables, and appendixes. The statements in each Case Study must be supported by biblicalintegration and at least 2 scholarly references, cited throughout the narrative and placed on the reference list in the APA format. Case Study assigned questions are listed in the chart below.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool. The tool is a starting point for instructors to check overall Academic Integrity and higher scores generally indicate a higher probability of Academic Misconduct. The higher a score the higher the probability that there are too high a percentage of quotations included in the narrative, and/or there are passages that have not been properly cited.

Discussion, you examined a common set of assumptions characterizing the behavior of behavior analysts. One of those assumptions is the Law of Parsimony. The history and etymology of the word parsimony is from the Latin pars-, meaning to act sparingly, be thrifty (with), refrain from (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). By extension, the Law of Parsimony posits that given two explanations for a given phenomenon, you should choose the simplest scientific explanation that fits the evidence. Ultimately, an important purpose for using parsimonious interpretations is to enable a principle of economy when determining where new findings might incorporate into the existing knowledge base of a given field. By way of illustration, consider the following review regarding negative symptoms in schizophrenia. In the review, the authors identify a lengthy list of nearly 20 negative schizophrenia symptoms ranging from different forms of affect issues to poor grooming to asociality. Applying the law of parsimony (referred to as Occams Razor in the review) the authors simplified their evidence by stating, …we propose that while negative symptoms are varied and broad in both their clinical presentation and longitudinal course, they can all be subsumed under the concept of avolition. As the primary construct, avolition translates to decreased functional performance, a hallmark of schizophrenia’s longer-term outcome but identifiable in its earliest stages (Foussias, & Remington, 2010). Note: In ABA, parsimony refers to ruling out simpler, behavior-analytic explanations (e.g., reinforcement, environmental variables) before assuming complex internal causes not simply simplifying the way we communicate about behavior. For this Assignment, you will consider why parsimony is an important construct a behavior analyst might use when communicating interventions to a parent or teacher. References: Foussias, G., & Remington, G. (2010). Negative symptoms in schizophrenia: Avolition and Occams razor. Schizophrenia Bulletin , 36 (2), 359369. Merriam-Webster. (n.d.). Parsimony. Retrieved February 6, 2021, from Write an explanation addressing why parsimony is important for a behavior analyst when communicating a prospective intervention to a parent or teacher. Be parsimonious in your response. Be sure to support your Assignment with specific references to behavior-analytic theory and research. • International Acquistion

    TASK:

Read the attached and below references and answer the following questions:

How should the U.S. use security assistance tools in response to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, either in terms of near-term goals to assist Ukraine and other states affected by the conflict or in terms of longer-term national security objectives? Reponse should:

o Recommend policy options by articulating clear objective(s) and the ways and means with respect to security assistance tools to advance those objectives.

o Evaluate the constraints potentially limiting U.S. action and evaluate the risks associated with any recommendations.

    o Support your recommendations.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

Write a 1-2 page single-spaced position paper addressing the task above. Use the attached Department of the Air Force, Air Force Handbook 33-337, The Tongue and Quill page 228 position paper format and follow the paper outline below. Use the assessment rubric below as an assessment. Ensure there is no detection of AI. An example of the paper format is attached.

To limit the level of effort needed for this paper, no additional research required outside of the references, but may do so if it is necessary to support recommendation(s). The paper must, at a minimum, address the following:

A careful explanation of the objective(s) sought in the export of arms (or the limitation of arms exports) to Ukraine in support of their ongoing conflict with Russia (or to other countries in response to this conflict). Include a clear recommendation(s) for the ways and means you suggest using to achieve the objective(s) with respect to the security assistant tools and a clear articulation of the logic underpinning your assertion that the ways and means will advance the objective(s). Note: The assignment does not ask you to describe current U.S. policy objectives in Ukraine, nor does the assignment ask you to address the full spectrum of the instruments of power; the intent is for you to develop objective(s) with potential strategic value to the U.S. and to articulate how they could be advanced through the use of the security assistance tools discussed in this course (e.g., Foreign Military Sales, Foreign Military Financing, International Cooperation Programs, etc.).

An evaluation of the constraints possibly limiting U.S. action and risks associated with the recommendation, along with measures to mitigate and manage that risk, and an assessment of the relative likelihood of various positive and negative outcomes (i.e., rewards/costs, success/failure, containment/escalation, etc.).

Support the position using examples or quotes from the required reading, as well as own interpretation and analysis of the material. Cite supporting information using endnotes in the format prescribed by the Chicago Manual of Style.

Successfully demonstrate an ability to develop policy options for the role of international acquisition and security assistance to achieve national security objectives in an authentic, current and real-world situation.
