Manifest Destiny, white supremacy, race, identity, capitalis…
Your participation in our online discussions is crucial. Since we do not meet face-to-face this is a great opportunity to analyze text and interact with your peers. Peer Response Find at least two peers you would like to respond to and comment on their posts with a question and connection such as “Wow! That section also resonated with me because of X, Y, and Z. How do you think this benefits or harms your relationships with others? etc. This response should be a minimum of one paragraph. I will be reading all the posts and replies. Some weeks I will chime in to give feedback. Each post is worth 4 points, which is 20% of your total grade in this course. Grading 4 Points (full points): Two complete paragraphs based on the course readings and replying to two discussion posts. 2 Points (half points): Two full paragraphs and not replying to someone’s discussion post. 0 Points: Less than one paragraph no peer responses or wiring about the music, documentaries, the wrong week’s readings, and or writing about an article not assigned in the course instead of the week’s readings. Prompt Now that you have covered race, identity, and social constructs let’s dive into history dating back to the early 19th century. 1. How did Manifest Destiny affect different groups of people within and around the United States? 2. How does white supremacy relate to capitalism? 3. How does white supremacy affect how people interact with land, labor, and capital?

Lifespan Development Psychology Discussion Post
Choose three concepts or ideas that you learned from this week’s material (the chapter and/or slideshows) that you found most meaningful, useful, or interesting. For each concept:
- Explain what it means in your own words.
- Share why it stood out to you or why you found it valuable.
- Say how it might be useful to you in your understanding of others, yourself, relationships, or in your future career.
You can give your thread a catchy title, or simply list the 3 concepts you’ll be writing about.
Ive written the first thread to help get the discussion started, but please note that your post does not need to be as long as mine. A response of about 150200 words is appropriate. As always, your post should be written in your own words. I want to hear from you, not AI.
Be sure to reply to at least one person (me or a classmate). Your reply should refer to something specific from their post and add additional perspective or insight.

Argumentative essay
It doesnt matter to me as long as you meet the requirements. For this essay, I want to see the following:
1. Introduction and thesis
2. Background
3. Reason 1 and evidence (source)
4. Reason 2 and evidence (source)
5. Reason 3 and evidence (source)
6. Anticipation of objections and rebuttal (where you acknowledge arguments against you
and then state why they are wrong.
7. Conclusion
This week you will be wrapping up our discussions related to the Argument Essay and turning in your initial draft. Be sure to go back to the info from last week on pgs 119-145 and briefly review. This essay will need to be 4-6 pages, 12 pt Times New Roman, double spaced, and will need to include 3 outside sources for support.
First, I dont care what you write about in terms of topic (as long as its appropriate). You can argue about anything: politics, pop culture, personal interests…you name it. If you want to talk about the current situation in the Middle East and make an argument, thats fine. If you want to talk about a music artist’s new album and argue that its their best or worst so far, thats fine too. It honestly doesnt matter to me.

Substance Dualism vs. Identity Theory
Essay Requirements:
- Word Count: Your essay must be between 1,8002,250 words.
- Formatting & Citation: Follow MLA guidelines, including proper in-text citations and a works cited page. The only deviation from MLA formatting is that you should not include your name in the essay heading or file name to support anonymous grading.
- Sources: Use the course textbook and at least two reputable external sources
Instructions for Writing Your Essay:
- Select a Topic: Select one of the three topics below. Each topic requires you to analyze key arguments and develop your own position.
- Understand the Argument: Begin by explaining the relevant argument or philosophical concept. For example, if discussing Nagels bat argument, identify its premises (supporting reasons) and conclusion. Outline the philosophers reasoning in detail before presenting your own view.
- State Your Thesis: Your thesis statement should clearly answer the main question of the prompt and appear in the introduction of your essay. For instance:
- Nagels argument about subjective experience effectively challenges reductive physicalism because it exposes the limitations of purely objective explanations.
- Develop Your Argument:
- Support your thesis with logical reasoning, evidence, and examples.
- Use at least two sources in addition to the textbook, citing them properly in MLA format.
- Engage with Counterarguments:
- Address objections or alternative viewpoints.
- Explain why your position is stronger or more plausible.
- Conclude Thoughtfully: Reflect on the broader implications of your argument. Avoid simply repeating your thesis; instead, consider what your analysis reveals about the topic.
- Organize Your Paper:
- Introduction: Clearly state your thesis and briefly outline your essay structure.
- Body Paragraphs: Develop your argument step by step, with each paragraph focusing on one main idea.
- Conclusion: Summarize your argument and reflect on its significance.
