This is a standard college research essay (6-10 pages – or more, if you really

get into it), with introduction, body, conclusion and a reference page.1 You are required to

use three outside sources – two of these sources must be books, book chapters, or journal

articles (either peer reviewed or published by companies that produce serious

scholarship). The third source can be an online source. It must be from a site that is

dedicated to linguistics or to your specific topic (not Reddit, Quora, etc.) You may start

with Wikipedia to get ideas, general info, and further direction, but you may not use it as

your third source. You are welcome to use the textbook, as well, if it is relevant to your

topic, but not as one of your three sources. Possible topics are listed in the Option #1

Sumerian – The language, modern linguistic work, and the first known documentation

Students will conduct a miniresearch project examining cotton labor, Black agricultural life, or freedom struggles using oral histories, archival documents, or community memory. Projects may draw from the Cotton Pickers of America initiative and related materials. Step 1: Research

• Review the readings and video and research basic designs, corresponding questions, analytical methods related to research questions, and limitations on the implication of findings (causal vs. relational).
• Capstone project topics cannot be used in this course due to the potential for self-plagiarism, a new topic must be chosen instead

Step 2: Consider

• Related to the research questions and limitations on implications or findings (causal vs. relational):
• What are the basic research designs?
• What are the corresponding or additional questions used?
• What analytical methods are used?

Step 3: Write

• Write a paper that addresses the questions above.

To Prepare:

• Review this weeks Learning Resources about parsimony.
• Consider practical ways parsimony might be used by a behavior analyst.

• Write an explanation addressing why parsimony is important for a behavior analyst when communicating a prospective intervention to a parent or teacher. Be parsimonious in your response.

Be sure to support your Assignment with specific references to behavior-analytic theory and research. In addition to the Learning Resources, search the Walden Library and/or the internet for peer-reviewed articles to support your Assignment.
