  • Policy Assignment

Research a local or national current or pending bill or policy that impacts your volunteer agency. Create a public service announcement video to advocate for your stance on this bill or policy. An effective way to locate policy or legislation is to use you state legislative website. For example in Arizona it is azleg.gov. You do a keyword search on the website to locate a bill or legislation. You may also get recommendations by interviewing your supervisor at the volunteer agency.

Make sure that your video addresses the following:

    • Description of the current or pending bill or policy
    • Short description of your volunteer agency, including the mission and program overview.
    • Potential impact on the population served at your volunteer agency.
    • What action would you recommend as a next step

The volunteer agency i worked at was called food share. I have attached the website so that you can reference that to the bill. Its called food Share and its located in Ventura

  • Andrew Saint Case Study

This two-part assignment involves identifying an individual and interpreting their experience through the integration of theory and practice techniques in the context of family work. Students identify the interpersonal dynamics, including use of self and countertransference, that allow for effective evaluation of outcomes.

    Instructions

In Part 1, students identify an adult individual for whom you have enough historical and biographical information to examine the individual’s experiences in their family of origin as well as their participation in different groups in childhood and adulthood. We prioritize flexibility and comfort for students in engaging in this process, so you have options in terms of who you use:

    1. You can write about a client you’ve encountered in field or elsewhere in the helping professions. This would typically be a somewhat longer term relationship where you’re familiar enough with the client’s history and experiences.

The Person I selected is Andrew Saint, He is a 35 year old Black Male Army Infantry officer. He and His Wife (34) come from “broken homes”, have been married for 10 years and have 2 children one son and a daughter. The Fathers Dad was an alcoholic and wasn’t nurturing to family members. Growing up in rural racist Louisana and now traveling the world for work and having to work in a very diverse professional enviornment with high stress. His desire is to not allow his family’s history to not adversely impact his family or work enviornment –namely wants to have a successful marriage and doesnt want to resort to alcohol as a remedy/fix for his problems. Hes close with his kids, has a challenging relationship with his wife due to the lack of support she provides assisting with the rearing of the children and cleanig and cooking as she is a stay at home mother- her mother did not demonstrate any of these qualities therefore Andrews wife never learned them.

Andrew Major Life events are moving locations every 3-4 years, Struggling with PTSD from multiple deployments and not having enough time to spend with kids due to work requirements

The Son (10) and Daughter (7) behave well at home and in school but struggle with seeing their mother not contribute and there father being impacted by this fact.

Andrew uses alcolhol to cope is one issue that impacrts the family

The wife not having the training is not capable of supporting her huband propetly as the spouse of a senior military officer which as a black man there is often alot if visibilty because of how rare they are

The approach you choose will have no bearing whatsoever on your grade. We’ll partly use this assignment to ensure that you’re well positioned to complete the remaining assignment.

After choosing your an individual, you will need to discuss the following:

In addition to below requirements please reference this text for the purpose of the paper where applicable: Van Hook, M. P. (2019). Social work practice with families: A resiliency-based approach (3rd

    ed.). Oxford.

    Demographics and General Information

    • Relevant demographic details for the individual
    • A general history including information on personal relationships and education and/or work life.
    • Major life events and noteworthy health/mental health considerations.

Next, students will need to provide a basic overview of their identified individual’s family and use family systems concepts to explore family dynamics. Specifically the following should be addressed:

    Family Oview

    • Describe the subject of your case study as well as the other members of the individual’s family of origin. This idea of “family of origin” is going to mean different things in different family contexts, but expect in many cases for it to describe family members with whom your subject lived during childhood.
    • Be sure to outline the age differences and relationships in the family of origin. Exemplary work will use graphical representation.
    • Describe relevant aspects of the client and other family members’ social identities, potentially including racial identity, ethnicity, sex/gender, sexuality, and other experiences that may help position the family’s experiences.
    • Identify major transitions and difficulties experienced over the course of the family history, and offer brief impressions of the impact these appeared to have on the family.
    • Explore the relevance (where applicable) of at least two of the following issues that impact families: disability, gender/sexuality, poverty, socioeconomic status, substance use, technology.

    Family Systems Interpretation

    • Watch this
    • on some of the common Systems concepts. There are also materials that might be useful in the Module
    • Use family systems concepts to explore family dynamics. Students should address:
    • the role of boundaries (both around and within the family system),
    • sub-systems and structure,
    • processes and feedback loops,
    • and roles and equilibrium
    • Your subject is an adult, so you’ll be looking to summarize major aspects of the family’s history from your subject’s childhood using these concepts. Use your discretion to identify those family dynamics that seem most relevant
    • You should pull from the course readings and materials to complete this section. Be sure to cite your sources.

The submitted written document should follow APA formatting and use APA style headings to organize the content. You should include an APA style cover page and reference page. The submission should be approximately between 4 and 5 pages in length. This submission is graded primarily on adherence to the assignment prompts and clinical writing skills. Watch the short video below where I provide some additional clarification on how to write up this assignment

  • engagement assignment

This assignment integrates the theories of engagement you have read about with your direct practice work. In 3-5 pages double-spaced pages using APA style, please first describe a situation in your field placement that required engagement skills. Then, identify what engagement strategies you used drawing from the readings from modules 3 and 4. Please describe at least 2 strategies and cite the original source material you used to identify the strategy. Finally, please reflect on the process of engagement and answer the following questions:

    1. What went well?
    2. What did not work well? (E.g. did you make any mistakes?)
    3. Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently?
    4. How did you apply principles of belief bonding (if appropriate) to your choices?
    5. What engagement strategies will you continue to build on in your work with this client or client system?

You may include a process recording (typed) to illustrate your examples. The purpose of this assignment is to be able to articulate and apply the concepts of engagement to your own field work.

” During my field placement at the school, I worked with a 10th-grade student on one on one counselling who disclosed experiencing sexual abuse while at school. She also shared details about her complicated family situation. She reported that she does not get along with her biological father, who was largely absent after she was in 8th grade and has made no effort to reach out even after being released from jail. The student also struggles with her stepfather, who favors her older sister and often argues with her, and she has conflicts with her stepmother, whom she believes caused the death of her stepbrother. Additionally, the student described strained or nonexistent relationships with her siblings from the same father but different mothers. She expressed feeling isolated, angry, and sad about her family circumstances. This situation required advanced engagement skills because the students experiences involved multiple layers of trauma, complex family dynamics, and a lack of trust in adults, making it essential to create a safe and supportive environment where she could share her feelings without judgment.

In this context, I implemented engagement strategies grounded in the readings from Module 4, specifically the Belief Bonding and Failures in Empathic Communication lectures (SWP I Module 04 Belief Bonding Transcript-2.pdf; SWP I Module 04 Failures in Empathic Communication Transcript-1.pdf). Two key strategies that I applied were active listening with reflective responses and open-ended, reflective questioning.
