    ETHICAL Dilemma Paper RubricCriteriaRatingsPtsIdeas

    50 pts

    Excels in responding to assignment

Interesting demonstrates the sophistication of thought. The central idea/thesis is clearly communicated, worth developing; limited enough to be manageable. Paper recognizes some complexity of its thesis: may acknowledge its contradictions, qualifications, or limits and follow out their logical implications. Understands and critically evaluates its sources, appropriately limits and defines terms.

    40 pts

A solid paper, responding appropriately to assignment

Clearly states a thesis/central idea, but may have minor lapses in development. Begins to acknowledge the complexity of the central idea and the possibility of other points of view. Shows careful reading of sources, but may not evaluate them critically. Attempts to define terms, not always successful.

    30 pts

Adequate but weaker and less effective

Possibly responding less well to the assignment. Presents central idea in general terms, often depending on platitudes or cliches. Usually does not acknowledge other views. Shows basic comprehension of sources, perhaps with lapses in understanding. If it defines terms, often depends on dictionary definitions.

    20 pts

Does not have a clear central idea or does not respond appropriately to the assignment

The thesis may be too vague or obvious to be developed effectively. Paper may misunderstand sources.

    0 pts

Does not respond to the assignment

Lacks a thesis or central idea, and may neglect to use sources where necessary.

    / 50 pts

    Organization & Coherence

    16 pts

    Excels in responding to assignment

Uses a logical structure appropriate to the paper’s subject, purpose, audience, thesis, and disciplinary field. Sophisticated transitional sentences often develop one idea from the previous one or identify their logical relations. It guides the reader through the chain of reasoning or progression of ideas.

    8 pts

A solid paper, responding appropriately to assignment

Shows a logical progression of ideas and uses fairly sophisticated transitional devices; e.g., may move from least to a more important idea. Some logical links may be faulty, but each paragraph clearly relates to the paper’s central idea.

    4 pts

Adequate but weaker and less effective

May list ideas or arrange them randomly rather than using any evident logical structure. May use transitions, but they are likely to be sequential (first, second, third) rather than logic-based. While each paragraph may relate to the central idea, logic is not always clear. Paragraphs have topic sentences but may be overly general, and the arrangement of sentences within paragraphs may lack coherence.

    2 pts

Does not have a clear central idea or does not respond appropriately to the assignment

May have random organization, lacking internal paragraph coherence, and using few or inappropriate transitions. Paragraphs may lack topic sentences or main ideas or may be too general or too specific to be effective. Paragraphs may not all relate to the paper’s thesis.

    0 pts

Does not respond to the assignment

No appreciable organization; lacks transitions and coherence.

    / 16 pts

    Support

    12 pts

    Excels in responding to assignment

Uses evidence appropriately and effectively, providing sufficient evidence and explanation to convince.

    6 pts

A solid paper, responding appropriately to assignment

Begins to offer reasons to support its points, perhaps using varied kinds of evidence. Begins to interpret the evidence and explain connections between evidence and main ideas. Its examples bear some relevance.

    3 pts

Adequate but weaker and less effective

Often uses generalizations to support its points. May use examples, but they may be obvious or not relevant. Often depends on unsupported opinion or personal experience, or assumes that evidence speaks for itself and needs no application to the point being discussed. Often has lapses in logic.

    2 pts

Does not have a clear central idea or does not respond appropriately to the assignment

Depends on cliches or overgeneralizations for support, or offers little evidence of any kind. May be a personal narrative rather than an essay, or a summary rather than an analysis.

    0 pts

Does not respond to the assignment

Uses irrelevant details or lacks supporting evidence entirely. May be unduly brief.

    / 12 pts

    Style

    12 pts

    Excels in responding to assignment

Chooses words for their precise meaning and uses an appropriate level of specificity. Sentence style fits the paper’s audience and purpose. Sentences are varied, yet clearly structured and carefully focused, not long and rambling.

    6 pts

A solid paper, responding appropriately to assignment

Generally uses words accurately and effectively, but may sometimes be too general. Sentences are generally clear, well structured, and focused, though some may be awkward or ineffective.

    3 pts

Adequate but weaker and less effective

Uses relatively vague and general words, may use some inappropriate language. Sentence structure is generally correct, but sentences may be wordy, unfocused, repetitive, or confusing.

    2 pts

Does not have a clear central idea or does not respond appropriately to the assignment

May be too vague and abstract, or very personal and specific. Usually contains several awkward or ungrammatical sentences; sentence structure is simple or monotonous.

    0 pts

Does not respond to the assignment

Usually contains many awkward sentences, misuses words, employs inappropriate language.

    / 12 pts

    Mechanics

    10 pts

    Excels in responding to assignment

Almost entirely free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.

    5 pts

A solid paper, responding appropriately to assignment

May contain a few errors, which may annoy the reader but not impede understanding.

    3 pts

Adequate but weaker and less effective

Usually contains several mechanical errors, which may temporarily confuse the reader but not impede the overall understanding.

    2 pts

Does not have a clear central idea or does not respond appropriately to the assignment

Usually contains either many mechanical errors or a few important errors that block the reader’s understanding and ability to see connections between thoughts.

    0 pts

Does not respond to the assignment

Usually contains so many mechanical errors that it is impossible for the reader to follow the thinking from sentence to sentence.

    Reading Leadership

Students will sign up in pairs to present on some of that weeks assigned readings and/or

supplemental readings, to engage and educate the rest of the class on the readings and content.

The presenting pair will bring 3-4 thought provoking questions and lead their classmates in a

critical discussion regarding the readings assigned for that week. The presentation should be

professional, succinct, clear, and informative; creativity is encouraged. This is an opportunity to

think outside the box and have fun with the material. You may use PowerPoint, handouts, or

other relevant teaching tools to convey your information to the class. Each presentation should

last for approximately 10-15 minutes. Besides highlighting the information in your assigned or

selected reading, you must also include the relevance to your current social work practice, and

implications for other areas of practice. For example, if you are practicing in a micro social work

area include how this information could relate to mezzo or macro social work practice.

Everyone is expected to participate in these discussions, as well as during class lectures and other

classroom activities. Participation and attendance are critical aspects of this class.

I will include all linked material for this week. You’ll only need to choice at least one of the websites/ files to do my slides. I’ll also include my groups PowerPoint and you can either upload it to our PowerPoint we already have or you can just do a new PowerPoint and i’ll just copy and paste. However, per the directions you only have to choose one of this week’s readings that I include. My field placement is at Southeastern Integrated Care as a CST QP (community support team, qualified professional), and SACOT/SAIOP night time facilitator. Some reading resources will be a website and some will be uploaded as a file. Just choose at least one that you like. Also include a cheat sheet (like foot notes, but on a separate word document for me to read from for the class per slide so I’m not reading directly from each slide and it can sound as if I know what I’m talking about).

    *PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS

*PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENT:

*PLEASE MAKE SURE THE IGNITE PRESENTATION IS NO MORE THAT 5 MINUTES MAX, AND ONLY 20 SLIDES WITH PICTURES. (TRANSCRIPTS SHOULD ONLY BE NOT BE LONG KEY POINTS ONLY TO GET THE POINT ACROSS (15 seconds per slide).

By completing this Ignite presentation assignment, students will develop skills in concise and impactful communication, effectively conveying complex social welfare issues to diverse audiences. Students will enhance their ability to identify and articulate unmet service needs within specific populations, while also honing their capacity to propose and advocate for policy changes aimed at improving conditions and opportunities. Furthermore, engaging in this assignment fosters proficiency in integrating social work values such as cultural responsiveness and social justice advocacy into strategic policy initiatives.

Instructions: Select ONE population of interest to use in an ignite presentation and video recording:

    Complete the following:

Develop an Ignite presentation in which you discuss an identified service need of your selected population of interest. An Ignite presentation is a PowerPoint presentation in which 20 slides auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of 5 minutes, while the presenter speaks. Typically, each slide contains a visual image with minimal words.

The presenter(s) speaks for approximately 13 seconds per slide. Presentations are meant to ignite the audience on a subject (in this case, on a social welfare policy issue), for the purpose of expanding awareness, deepening thought, building social empathy, and inviting social action and social change.

Use your selected population of interest and address the following in your ignite presentation:

    Ignite Presentation Outline

    • Describe an unmet service need of your identified target population.
    • Explain a vision of change to improve conditions or opportunities for the target population.
    • Propose a viable policy change strategy to improve conditions or opportunities, to better meet the identified service needs of the target population.
    • Explain how the change initiative would incorporate social work values such as cultural responsiveness or advancement of social justice.

Next, use Zoom or another digital recording software program to create a video of yourself delivering your Ignite presentation, based on the generic outline. Your video needs to show the slides and should show yourself, or at least have your voice presenting along with the slides. Place the video link into the last of your presentation slides. If your recording requires a password, provide the GCU instructor with the password.

Submit the presentation to the instructor.

Refer to the resource, Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations, located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style.

instructions is uploaded separately. Self-Psychology Theory – Theoretical Constructs Main Ideas of Self-Psychology: Developed by psychoanalyst Heinz Kohut in the 1970s Focuses on how a healthy sense of self develops through relationships Key Concepts: Selfobject Needs – People need others to help them feel valued, calm, and understood (Banai et al., 2005). Mirroring – When caregivers reflect a child’s strengths and feelings, it builds confidence and self-worth (Luyten & Fonagy, 2020). Idealizing – Children look up to strong caregivers for comfort and safety. Twinship-The need to feel similar to others and connected. Empathy – Therapy works best when the therapist deeply understands the client’s emotional experience (Luyten & Fonagy, 2020). When these needs are not met, problems with self-esteem and relationships can develop. Brief History of Self-Psychology Self-psychology began in the 1970s as a new approach within psychoanalysis. Kohut believed emotional growth depends more on empathy and relationships than on internal conflict. His ideas shifted psychoanalysis toward relational and attachment-based models (Banai et al., 2005). Over time, research connected self-psychology to attachment theory and emotional regulation (Luyten & Fonagy, 2020). Today, the theory is used in treating personality disorders, trauma, and self-esteem difficulties. References Banai, E., Mikulincer, M., & Shaver, P. R. • final paper

Your final writing assignment is to write a 10-page paper. For this assignment, first, you need to carefully read these 7 academic articles published in sociological journals

    suzuki-2017-a-critical-assessment-of-comparative-sociology-of-race-and-ethnicity.pdfannurev-soc-030222-013351.pdfannurev-soc-071811-145528.pdfbhambra-2014-a-sociological-dilemma-race-segregation-and-us-sociology.pdfRace_and_Race_Theory.pdfmeer-nayak-2013-race-ends-where-race-racism-and-contemporary-sociology.pdfbhambra-2014-a-sociological-dilemma-race-segregation-and-us-sociology.pdf

After reading these, your final paper should summarize, compare, and synthesize them in a cohesive way. The goal of this assignment is for you to acquire a taste of how sociologists study issues related to race and ethnicity. Based on the articles you read, I want you to talk about your OWN understanding of what they are saying rather than just repeating them in order. Try to compare and contrast the articles and their main findings and conclusions, their methods, as important as they are for professional readers, are not really important for this assignment, so only focus on the findings and implications. Formatting Requirements:Times New Roman 12-point font size.Double-spaced.1-inch margins. No extra space between paragraphs.A cover page is optional (not counted toward the 10-page requirement).A reference/works cited page is optional (not counted toward the 10-page requirement).
