When working with Muhammad at Rasmussen Help Center, LLC, I will intentionally utilize professional communication practices that promote clarity, respect, and trust. Professional communication requires active listening, careful attention to detail, and the ability to adapt language so that clients clearly understand what is being discussed

Since Muhammad has said his accent becomes harder to understand when he is anxious or stressed, I will practice patience and avoid interrupting him. I will allow him time to express himself fully and use clarification techniques, such as paraphrasing (What I hear you saying is…), to ensure understanding. According to the oral communication module, effective verbal communication involves clarity of speech, remaining calm and focused, and checking for client understanding. I will also be mindful of nonverbal communicationmaintaining appropriate eye contact, using open body language, and demonstrating warmth through facial expressions, as highlighted in the professional communication material

Because Muhammad emigrated from the Middle East, cultural awareness will also be important. The module on disseminating information to diverse audiences emphasizes eliminating figurative language and being mindful of cultural differences in gestures and expressions

I will avoid idioms or slang that could cause confusion and present information in small, manageable pieces to reduce overwhelm. Additionally, building trust is essential; clients are more likely to engage when they feel heard and respected. By focusing on his perspective and allowing him to explain his concerns in his own words, I can help reduce anxiety and strengthen rapport.

It is important to employ an appropriate tone and mode of communication with Muhammadand with all clientsbecause communication directly impacts service effectiveness and client outcomes. Human Services Professionals rely on communication to gather accurate information, interpret complex situations, and make sound decisions. If tone is dismissive, rushed, or culturally insensitive, a client may withdraw, withhold important information, or lose trust in the helping relationship. Furthermore, professional documentation must reflect clear, accurate, and objective information to ensure continuity of care. Proper tone supports not only rapport but also compliance and accountability within the agency. Documentation should be clear, concise, and factual because it protects both the client and the professional while ensuring services are delivered appropriately

In settings like Rasmussen Help Center, LLC, professional tone is not optionalit is foundational to ethical and effective practice. Appropriate tone in oral communication translates to being calm, respectful, empathetic, and free of judgment. It includes speaking clearly, avoiding jargon, and checking for understanding without making the client feel tested or stigmatized

In written communication, appropriate tone means documenting objectivelyrecording observable facts rather than personal opinionsand maintaining professionalism in case notes, assessments, and treatment plans

Written tone should remain neutral, accurate, and supportive of the clients goals. As emphasized in the documentation module, careful documentation enhances service quality and protects practitioners by ensuring records reflect services accurately

Ultimately, professional toneboth spoken and writtendemonstrates respect, cultural humility, and ethical responsibility. For Muhammad, this means creating an environment where he feels safe expressing himself, even during moments of stress. For all clients, it ensures that communication strengthens the helping relationship rather than creating barriers.

  • Module 02 Course Project – Days of Our Professional Lives

Communication involves written and verbal communication. Regardless of where we work within the field of Human Services, we are required to ensure that all communication is professional and respectfuleven when working with difficult persons. The course project for Module 02 involves the following scenario:

Scenario: You have a caseload of 25 clients in which your day-to-day work schedule is extremely hectic. Though you manage to see all your clients as Rasmussen Help Center, LLC policy indicates, you are also required to document your services within the clients records so that your supervisor can review your work processes. Your co-worker, Marvin, recently separated from the agency and you have now inherited 8 more clients to your caseload. Your supervisor is under the assumption that all is well; however, you are progressively getting behind on your paperwork and you receive numerous emails and phone calls from other service providers with other agencies that require your attention.

In a three-page paper, discuss the following:

    • What are professional communication skills and why are they so important within the field of Human Services?
    • Interacting with clients is a necessity, and in many cases seeing unscheduled clients is part of the job. Why is it important to document your work with clients? What are the advantages of documenting services in a timely manner? What are the consequences that can occur (based upon the scenario) if client services are not documented in a timely fashion?
    • Discuss appropriate tone in written and oral communication with clients and with other service providers. Why is appropriate tone important? What are the consequences of inappropriate tone with clients and other service providers?
    • Based upon the scenario presented, discuss the relevance of communicating needs with your immediate supervisor. Why is this important?
    • Use a minimum of three sources.

Write an analysis of a topic presented in class, or a related topic. The paper should demonstrate outside research and sources. Discussion should include the relevance of the topic in respect to social welfare policy.

To help structure your paper, the following questions must be answered and used as subheadings:

    1. Identify the problem and the way it is defined.
    2. Identify the causes to which the problem is attributed.
    3. What are the values and beliefs that make the events of concern defined as a social problem?
    4. What ideologies, theories or paradigms of the social welfare system are relevant? Why?
    5. Who has power in regard to this issue?
    6. What social welfare policies and programs are relevant to the problem? Is there a role for Human Services? If so, what is the role of Human Services?
    7. Is the problem adequately addressed by present social welfare policies and programs? Is there more or less which should be done?
    8. What are your suggested changes or approaches to the problem.

Each of the questions should be a subheading in your paper. Points will be deducted for not including them as subheadings.

    For example:

    Full Title of Your Paper

Give an introduction of your social issue in the opening paragraph.

Identify the Problem and the Way It Is Defined

Start answering this question. Once completed, move on to the next question. Remember that each section must include support through in-text citations and references.

Identify the Causes to Which the Problem Is Attributed

Answer this question and then move on to the next. So forth and so on. Do this for all 8 subheadings. Your answers should be in paragraph form and should include support from your sources.

Most of your paper will discuss the social issue, but you should discuss relevant social policies in questions 6 & 7. Use the chart on pages 16 & 21 of your text to help you discuss the values and beliefs. For example, is your social issue influenced by individual or social responsibility? These are beliefs. Is this a personal or a collective value? Use chapter 3 to choose one ideology, theory or paradigm that applies to your social issue. For example, does the ideology of blaming the victim help explain the problem or current solutions to your social issue? Email me with questions.

    Requirements:

Length: 4-5 page paper in APA-style including a title page (this does not count toward the paper length), running head, abstract and reference page.

References: The paper must include a minimum of 5 scholarly valid references. All sources must be included in APA 7.0 format on the References page (the final page of your paper). Students can also include images, tables and figures as appendices (this does not count toward paper length). Use the APA citation resource .

    Evaluation:

    • Content: The paper fully addresses each of the 8 bulleted points. The paper answers how this issue relates to Human Services and expresses the students ideas and suggestions for possible future action.
    • Writing Style: Paper is written in APA 7.0 format with appropriate citations. The paper is also within the length guidelines. Papers that fall short of the 4 page minimum will be severely penalized. Subheadings, headers, and page numbers are required.
    • Grammar: Paper is absent of misspellings and uses correct grammar.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Research Paper

The text highlights several examples of disproportionality across the child welfare system. Disproportionality in the child welfare system occurs when a racial/ethnic group is overrepresented in the child welfare system compared to their percentage in the general population.

Select a problem related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as it relates to disproportionality in the child welfare and/or foster care system that you want to learn more about. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the child welfare system means creating a system that works for all families by acknowledging and addressing the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences of the people the child welfare system serves, dismantling systemic biases, and providing fair access to resources based on individual needs.

As part of the assignment, complete a literature review that includes the following:

    • Describe the issue/problem of disproportionality within the child welfare/foster care system.
    • Describe the causes of the problem.
    • Describe the consequences of the problem if not addressed.
    • Based on the causes identified, describe possible solutions aimed at reducing disparities.

NOTE: If you select racial/ethnic disproportionality, select a specific racial/ethnic group. The reason is because we can’t lump all racial/ethnic groups into one as each group has distinct experiences within and outside the child welfare/foster care system.

This paper should be approximately 5 7 pages (excluding the title page and references) and include at least 5 peer-reviewed sources. Use appropriate APA citations and references. Be sure to proofread your work for correct grammar and spelling.
