  • Ecological systems theory application in social work

In the Week 3 assignment, you identified and analyzed a specific developmental theory to apply to a case study from a chosen film. In this assignment, you will build on the work you have done by analyzing ecological systems theory and deciding on an actual application from a person-in-environment perspective. As with last time, it is vital to support the application of your chosen theory with scholarly research in the Capella library. The following resources may be useful as you research and write your assignment: Social Work Bachelor’s Program Library GuideLinks to an external site.. Evidence and APALinks to an external site.. Writing CenterLinks to an external site.. Assignment Instructions Make sure that you are introducing your chosen character and provide an explanation of their presenting problem from your chosen case study. The bullet points below correspond to grading criteria in the rubric. You may also want to read the rubric to better understand the performance levels that relate to each grading criterion. For this assignment, complete the following: Explain the key components of ecological systems theory to apply to the assessment, intervention, and evaluation of your chosen case study. Which aspects ecological systems theory are the most applicable and relevant to your chosen case study? How can ecological systems theory be integrated into assessment, intervention, and evaluation for your chosen character from the case study? Make sure you cite appropriate and relevant scholarly and professional resources to support your explanation. Assess the chosen character from the person-in-environment perspective. For a person-in-environment perspective, you might want to ask yourself the following questions. What systems provide the client support? What systems may be hindering the client? Systems to consider include family, friends, work, social services, politics, religion, goods and services, and educational systems. Include your chosen character’s intersectionality in your assessment. Describe an intervention based on ecological systems theory that is applicable and relevant to the chosen character. • Human behavior theory application and social policy analysis…

Apply and analyze one human behavior theory (for example, systems theory, psychodynamic theory, social learning theory) that can be applied in your work with the Client Case Study assignment (see the Attachment for client case study). As part of your analysis: o Define the theory. Describe how the theory can assist you with understanding the client and their problems and issues. Apply the human behavior theory to work with the client or client system. Consider the research and EITHER clearly identify research that is ethical, culturally informed, anti-racist, or anti-oppressive OR acknowledge the cultural bias or limitations of the research. Clearly explain the categorization and provide evidence to support this categorization. Choose one social policy (national, state, or organizational) that impacts the client or client system. Describe the policy. Analyze the policy’s influence and impact on the client or client population, including social, economic, and environmental justice issues. Explain how the policy addresses diversity and difference in practice at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. Describe how empathy, reflection, and interpersonal skills may be used to engage others in advocacy efforts for client systems through applying the social policy. Consider diversity and difference and demonstrate cultural humility by clearly identifying issues related to bias, power, privilege, and values as it relates to this case. Explain how you have applied the Code of Ethics in your work with the client or client system. Explain how the Code of Ethics guided your decision making in your work with the client or client system. Describe how you have applied the Code of Ethics in the field experience with professional staff, support staff, other clients, and in your community work as an intern.

  • Case Formulation Paper

    Instructions

Objective: The objective of this assignment is for the student to demonstrate the ability to organize and describe case material using cognitive and behavioral theories.

Assignment: The student should identify a case, either from their field-work or some other helping role to use for the paper. A brief bio-psycho-social-spiritual summary of the case should be provided (2-3 pages) that includes the presenting problem of the case as if it were being placed in a medical chart. Please see the detailed rubric located in the Getting Started section of this course. Using some of the examples used in class as a guide, the student should write up a case formulation in a narrative form (NOT a conceptualization chart). First, explain the target issue using behavioral theory, including the terms and concepts of the theory. Second, explain the target issue using a cognitive theory lens, also using the concepts and terms of the theory. Then using the combined CBT approach, describe the case in a NON-JARGON/CIENT FRIENDLY manner (can be written as a summary to a caregiver or colleague or as if you were speaking directly to the client). The connection between the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors should be clear as the student explains why the person is feeling, thinking and behaving in a way that they present to the worker. Students should follow the rubric located in the Getting Started section of the course. This paper should be no more than 7-8 pages. (Please note that “student” and “worker” are used interchangeably in this description)

    Outline for Biopsychosocial-Spiritual Assessment

    724 Cognitive Behavioral Theory

    I. Referral

How did the client(s) get to the agency? Is the client self-referred, involuntary, or some of

each? What does the client say? What is the context of the agency? What is the purpose

    of the referral?

    II. Description of the Client

Summarize relevant identifying information including: age, sex, marital and/or partner

status, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, social class, income source(s), children, health

status, spiritual affiliation, as well as a brief physical description.

    III. Presenting Issues and Concerns

How does the client view her/his concerns/issues? How do other people, i.e. family

friends, agency, you or any other relevant individuals view the concerns/issues? When

did these concerns/issues begin? How has the client dealt with these concerns/issues in

the past? What would the client most want help with? Any history of substance abuse?

Current substance use? Suicidal/homicidal ideation? Currently psychotic? Any previous

history of mental health or other agency services? Any medical issues? Military history?

    Legal history?

IV. Assessment of Relevant Contextual, Historical Information and

    Intrapersonal Factors

    A. Current Context: Describe family, work and the social relationships that are relevant

to an understanding of the problem. With whom does the client live? Where does the

client work or go to school or spend significant time? In addition, consider environmental

and social context issues, such as housing, safety of community, access to health services,

issues of discrimination, connections with spiritual or other community organizations,

and any other relevant issues that social workers should consider in assessing the social

    context of a client.

    B. Historical Influences: Summarize relevant material about clients childhood,

relationships with family of origin, school and work history, and intimate relationships.

    C. Coping Strengths and Weaknesses: What are the clients strengths/weaknesses? How

do the above and social institutional resources and obstacles facilitate or inhibit the

clients mastering current issues/concerns? What role do current life cycle tasks play in

relation to the concerns/issues that have been identified? What cultural components may

    influence coping styles?

    Grading Criteria: The student has

Case Summary: Used the provided biopsychosocial outline and described the client addressed each

area described in the outline (2-3 pages)

Target Issue: In a separate paragraph, clearly identified the target issue (i.e., a behavior, a

feeling, a reaction) including the frequency, duration, intensity, and any other descriptors that

help paint a picture of the main issue. (approximately 1 paragraph)

Behavioral Theory: Explained the target issue from a behavioral theory lens (including

classical/respondent conditioning, operant conditioning, and social learning theory) Use terms

here from the theory (1-1 1/2 pgs.)

Cognitive Theory: Explained the target issue from a cognitive theory lens (use the cognitive

conceptualization diagram and create a narrative from it) – Use terms here from the theory (1-1 1/2

    pgs.)

    The working hypothesis/case formulation:

Links the formative influences to the current issue is an explanation and NOT a description or

    resummary of the case material

Is comprehensive and provides an accurate clinical summation of the relevant issues that are

currently influencing the situation of the client using the CBT framework (connect all three points

of the triangle here integrate the CT and BT sections from above).

Is written in client-friendly language NO jargon

Provides at least one example of the CBT cycle (approximately 34-1 page)

The paper is well written with no errors.

  • Module 3 Assignment

This week you are to conduct a “mini” policy analysis of Head Start. I have chosen Head Start as it is well researched and many of you may be familiar with it. To conduct the analysis, you will need to find 3 articles that concern and describe the legislation.

To find the articles, please use the social work . One of the articles should come from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) (the link is also available on the libguide page). The CRS report will provide you an overview of the policy/program and help you discuss the benefit-allocation framework. Your second article should come from a policy/research center or a think tank. The link to these types of organizations (for example, the Urban Institute, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities) can also be found on the libguiude page (right hand side). Please note that some of these organizations have a particular political orientation (progressive, conservative, libertarian) so you should think about this as you read their reports.

Finally, your third article can also come from one of these organizations (although it should be a different organization than the first article) OR you can find a scholarly article through the articles database in the library (you can use the social work policy research guide click journal articles). The articles you choose should be relatively recent and you should choose sources that help to answer the questions below.

Please use the analysis model described in your readings and in the audio lecture to draft a 3-4 pages (double spaced) analysis of this program/policy. This is an exercise and the goal is to apply a policy analysis framework to the policies. Your analyses may differ based on the legislation you choose and you may not be able to respond to all the points in the analysis framework.

The analysis should address the following points:

    • Benefit-Allocation Framework: Who, what, how, and how much ($)
    • Social, Economic, Environmental Justice Analysis/Human Rights framework: How does this policy impact social, economic, environmental justice and/or human rights? Use readings from weeks 1 and 2 to guide the analysis. Use Gilbert and Terrells notions of Equality, Equity, Adequacy
    • Policy Effectiveness (When you search for article about effectiveness, using the term ‘outcomes’ in your search may be helpful).
