    Final Project: Practice Toolbox

Throughout the course, you have systematically examined social work assessment tools and interventions for use with various age groups across the life span. You have analyzed the benefits and drawbacks of these tools and techniques, and you have envisioned yourself implementing them in practice. You have also considered ethical situations that arise when connecting with clients. All of these activities assist you in becoming a strong, competent, ethically oriented, and committed practitioner who can work with a range of populations.

In this Final Project, you solidify that commitment by gathering all of your Practice Toolbox submissions into one document and revising them as needed. You then write a summary outlining your ideal population on which to focus your practice and the challenges that might accompany your work.

Though the Practice Toolbox is submitted here, it is meant to be a living document to which you can add and refer throughout your remaining studies. It can also become a reference once you are a practicing social worker.

    To Prepare

    • Locate your previous Practice Toolbox submissions (Weeks 39 Assignments).
    • Revise them based on Instructor feedback and/or additional research you have done.
    • Copy and paste these revised submissions into the appropriate place in the Final Project Template.
    • To complete the other portions of the template, draw from this weeks Discussion post to further detail an intervention for elderly/aging adults. Also consider if your thoughts have changed since Week 1 regarding the population you prefer to work with, based on your experiences with the various groups in this course.

    submit

    Complete the Final Project Template:

    Assessment Tools and Interventions

    • Copy and paste your revised Practice Toolbox submissions into the template in the designated spot.
    • Include 1 page that elaborates on the intervention you chose for this weeks Discussion. You should answer the same questions for the elderly/aging adult intervention that you did with other populations (why you selected the intervention, why it would be helpful for the population, what challenges or limitations there might be).

    Summary

    • Write a 1-page summary describing your ideal population to work with, based on your research and work throughout the term. Is this the same population you identified in Week 1, or has your perspective changed?
    • Identify and describe at least two ethical, moral, or value challenges you might see in working with this population.

Use the Learning Resources to support your Final Project. Make sure to provide APA citations and a reference list.

  • Analyze Anti-poverty Programs MSW

    submitted to TurnitinTM.Instructions

    Background

For this week’s assignment, we will connect different pieces in the anti-poverty programs created and administered by state and federal governments.

Our anti-poverty programs intend to provide a safety net for families while not discouraging the value of work.

    Instructions

For this assignment, create a PowerPoint presentation that describes three anti-poverty programs (e.g., programs, tax programs, etc.). Your description should include:

    • Identify the name of the program and indicate when it was enacted.
    • List the original goals of the program.
    • Describe any significant changes as the program evolved.
    • Explain who administers and funds the program e.g., is it state or federally funded, who creates the eligibility rules, etc.
    • Determine whether a minimum wage worker in your state would qualify for the program you describe. Would a low wage (earning $20/hour or less) qualify for the program?
    • Identify the changes you would make to the program to reduce poverty and lower the income gap.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, graphics, and speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may comprise brief paragraphs or bulleted lists and should cite material appropriately.

References: Support your presentation with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)

Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide

Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information. Upload your document, and then click the Submit to Dropbox button.

  • Examine the Differences Between Social Insurance and Public…

This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin

    Background

Our welfare programs are traditionally divided between public assistance programs and social insurance programs. The anti-poverty programs we discussed in Lesson 4 typically fall into the category of public assistance programs. These programs are means tested, meaning that eligibility is determined by family income. For example, to be eligible for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, the family income must be below 130% of the federal poverty level. Entitlement programs provide indefinite benefits as long as the family meets the criteria. SNAP is considered an entitlement program since there is no limit to how long a family can receive benefits as long as they are eligible.

As you learned in this lesson, social insurance programs are those we pay into in case we need benefits at a later time. Similar to car insurance, we pay insurance to protect us in case we get into an accident. Social insurance protects us in case we are disabled or unable to work. Our eligibility for these benefits depends on whether we have made our payments and, in the case of Social Security, worked for at least 10 years. However, we may receive more benefits than what we paid into the program.

    Instructions

Examine the primary differences between social insurance and public assistance. Be sure to include information on:

    • A description of two programs categorized as public assistance (different from the ones you highlighted last week) and two categorized as social insurance.
    • How are the programs funded?
    • Who is eligible for the different programs?
    • Identify differences in eligibility.
    • Compare the benefits between public assistance and social insurance.
    • What themes of social welfare policy are reflected in the differences between these types of programs?
