Note: FirstPass, an AI-powered feedback tool, is available to use as you draft this assignment. The FirstPass tool for this assignment is available in the Weekly To Do List and includes directions on how to upload your draft to receive real-time feedback before you submit for a grade. Assignment Description In this assignment, you will utilize the DSM-5-TR and other scholarly sources to formulate the clients diagnosis, explain culturally responsive engagement strategies, and apply theoretical methods of treatment. In social work, it is important that we maintain the strengths-based perspective and consistently apply the generalist intervention model. This model allows us to view a client through the micro, mezzo, and macro setting. Assignment Instructions Make the revisions to the Week 3 assignment that were recommended by your instructor. Build this assignment onto the revised Week 3 assignment as if you were adding new information to the clients electronic health record. Competency 7: Assess Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities Conduct a differential diagnosis by evaluating at least three potential diagnoses for the client. Refer to the DSM-5-TR to explain the diagnosis that is most fitting for the client. Justify your decision by linking the clients presenting symptoms with the diagnostic criteria. Explain the diagnosis or diagnoses you chose to rule out, and why. (C7.SP.B) Apply leadership skills, decision-making, and emerging technologies to describe the diagnostic tool or tools you would use to assist with formulating the diagnosis. Overview

    Purpose

Do you know what ‘cover letters’ or ‘letters of interest’ are? Is there a difference? Do you think it is an outdated practice? Let’s take a fresh look!

In the ‘olden days’ (before the internet, email and remote application software), there was the old-school cover letter. Your ancestors wrote letters to potential employers about job openings, printed them, signed them, and then put them atop their resumes. The final step was putting them in an envelope and mailing them or dropping them off. So much work! Now, we use a variety of digital ways to apply for positions. That said, there is STILL a very good reason to have a ‘cover letter’ or what can now be referred to as ‘Initial Communication.’

The purpose of this assignments is to create a strong base ‘initial communication‘ (about an open position or to express a desire to work for an organization) so that you are ready to customize and use it when an opportunity comes your way. You might use what you create for this assignment to copy and paste into an email, reaching out via LinkedIn message, in an application portal, and many other situations as you develop a career in community service and/or leisure-related professions.

Consider this a ‘starter document.’ Anytime you apply for, reach out, or inquire about a position, you will customize your wording for the opportunity at hand.

    Generative AI Policy

In this course and for this assignment, the use of GenAI is prohibited beyond simple brainstorming and initial topic exploration, with the exception of specific instructions below given by the instructor for utilization within a specific assignment component. All work must reflect your own words, language, and voice, as well as your own research, thoughts, and perspectives–and it must be consistent with your writing style and skill. 3) Your AI-generated Version of Initial Communication (what generative AI does with your letter)

Step 1: Identify an actual position posting that you would consider applying for (whether or not it is currently available), save a copy of the posting and submit that here, along with your Cover Letter that you would use for the position. You should have TWO submissions!

Step 2: Use this Google Doc template to create a version completely made on your own (File/Make a Copy/Rename/Edit). It should be entitled Your Name Initial Communication My Version.

Step 3: Paste your completed version into generative AI and then into a new document and name it Your Name Initial Communication Generative AI Version.

Skip AI Note: If you do not want to use generative AI, you do not have to. Simple state in the submission comments that you are forgoing this option. Note that every word of your submitted draft must be 100% generated by you.

  • Unhoused

Here is what I need: I am revising and reworking my case study. I am going to upload a draft that I have and I need assistance with verifying the sources. I have a shell of what this should look like. I am still learning so if there is anything you can include to make it better, including additional articles please do as I need at least 20 articles referenced in my paper.

Here is the rubric too: Your first draft of the paper should include:

    A. Abstract

This should appear as Page 1, on its own page. The abstract should be 250 words

or less and coherent, readable, and concise. It should include the purpose of the

paper, i.e. how reading the case study will assist clinicians in their work. The Abstract should begin flush left; it is the only paragraph in the paper that is not indented.

    B. Introduction

Include a clear statement of relevance and purpose, and an area of inquiry

    C. Literature Review

    a. Include any amendments suggested by Drs E and K.

    b. End with a restatement of the purpose, addressing the problem the manuscript

    will address.

    D. Methodology

Address ethical issues here, including how you have acted in due diligence to

exclude any identifying information, and/or if you obtained consent from the

    patient to write the study.

    E. Case Conceptualization and Analysis (aka Case Narrative)

    a. Provide a brief description of the setting/agency in which the case was seen.

    b. Discuss the case or issue through your case presentation in a linear fashion.

Include patient demographics and other relevant factors (e.g., sexual orientation,

gender identity, refugee status). Discuss treatment as applied directly to the

    papers topic.

    c. Include sub-headings where appropriate.

    d. Be sure to critique your practice and discuss your case in a reflexive manner,

including what did or did not work. Write with a narrative voice.

    F. Discussion

    a. Re-summarize the case and apply it directly to the literature discussed in the

literature review earlier in the manuscript. Walk the reader through how your case

directly illustrates the topic and provides a contribution to the field through

application to future clinical work, research, or theory-building.

    b. Acknowledge the limitations of the case study, including lack of

generalizability/applicability to certain populations, but restate its importance all

    the same.

    G. Conclusion

Wrap up the entire manuscript in a few sentences. Remind the reader of why the

paper is still relevant despite limitations.

    H. References

All references in the paper must be in the References list, and vice versa, and must be in APA format. Triple check before submitting. The References list begins on a new page.

The case study should not exceed 22 pages, and should be written in 12-point Times New

Roman font, with 1-inch margins. Be sure to conform to APA style for citations and

references. The entire paper should be double-spaced and include a title page. Late papers

    will not be accepted.

Social work *** This conveys learning and growth in the students conceptualization and understanding of these same topics AFTER examining them throughout the course. The same questions will be addressed, however a significant increase in understanding and use of in-text citation to support your deepening understanding of concepts is expected. In this four-five page paper, let the same questions guide your reflection, but expand on each concept citing our course content to expand on your understanding of each concept: 1) What is your current understanding of difference, power, and privilege? 2) How, if at all, have you been impacted by power in society? 3) What role does power have in politics/policy/organizations? 4) What role do societal constructions play in society? (e.g. gender, race, sexuality, age, ability, class) 5) How would you define status quo, social change, advocacy, justice? 6) How has this course impacted your view on communication, power, difference, and privilege within society? An increased proficiency in your APA writing style, mechanics of composition, grammar and syntax will guide the grading of this paper.See syllabus for detailed instructions
  • Apply Research to Your Practicum

Overall: Recall and share an experience at your agency, whether that be with clients, staff, or the community. What were your thoughts and feelings during the interaction?

List and briefly describe two to three organizations that provide data or research for the population and social problems at your practicum site (examples: SAMSHA, CDC, NIH, National Child Welfare, Kaiser Family Foundation, Annie E Kasey Foundation). How can you use the information provided to understand and describe issues of ADEI with the population at your practicum?

Find two advocacy organizations that work to promote ADEI, human rights, or social justice for the type of populations at your practicum. Briefly describe their work and how you could benefit from engagement with that organization, whether it be subscribing to a newsletter, joining, or attending a conference or training. The organizations can be local, state, national or international. An example is the NAACP or a local chapter of NAMI.

Find two professional journals that address topics for your population and services. Provide the name of the journals, a link to each, and a brief description of how the journal relates to the population and services at your practicum site.

Select two articles from the journals that reflect a social justice approach to a social problem related to your practicum site. Provide the APA reference for that article and a 2-3 sentence summary of what you learned from that journal.

Please use proper grammar and spelling. Formatting is double-spaced. APA is required.

Make sure your responses to peers includes a citation and reference Brandie Pennington Feb 6 10:32pm | Last edited Feb 6 10:32pm Reply from Brandie Pennington After reading Stan and Tina, I see that the culture of poverty and practice orientation help us understand their lives in different ways. The culture of poverty looks at how living in poverty over time can shape the way people think, make decisions, and handle problems. For example, Stans environment in Village Park may have influenced the choices hes made and the ways he deals with challenges, while Tina had more stability and support growing up, so her experiences are different. This perspective helps explain why they act the way they do. The practice orientation focuses more on what can be done to help them now, like social services, counseling, or programs that meet their immediate needs. It doesnt really look at long-term patterns or why behaviors developed, its about practical solutions. Using both together gives a better picture: culture of poverty shows the context behind their choices, and practice orientation points to real ways to support them (Hutchison & Charlesworth, 2024). Reference: Hutchison, E. D., & Charlesworth, L. W. (2024). Dimensions of human behavior: Person and environment (7th ed.). SAGE Publications. Reply to post from Brandie Pennington Reply Haylee Gregory Feb 4 11:58pm | Last reply Feb 5 10:57am Reply from Haylee Gregory While looking at the story of Stan and Tina at Village Park, it is important to look at their experiences through the lens of the culture of poverty. The culture of poverty suggests that long-term poverty can shape behaviors and coping strategies over time (Lewis, 1966). Stans behaviors, such as becoming a teen parent and selling drugs, could be viewed as survival strategies learned in response to limited opportunities and instability in his environment rather than personal failure. Stan grew up with a biological father who sold drugs, while his mother and stepfather were hard workers. This is reflected in his behavior, because although he has made poor choices in the past, it is clear that he has high ambitions, strong academic ability, and is well respected by both his peers and teachers. Tina, on the other hand, could be seen as an exception to these patterns because she did not grow up in Village Park and experienced more stability and academic support. She was raised in a higher-income household and therefore did not need to rely on the same survival strategies as Stan (Cousins, 1994). Practice orientation looks at how people actively respond to their environments while still being shaped by larger systems like schools and inequality (Hutchison, 2024). Rather than focusing only on poverty-related behaviors, this approach emphasizes how individuals make choices within limited opportunities. Stans behavior reflects his attempts to balance school, peer status, and survival in an environment with few stable options. Tinas academic success also reflects her ability to navigate the school system while still holding a strong Black identity. Both students point out that academic success or failure is not only based on student behavior, but also on teachers and schools that do not know how to educate Black students. This perspective highlights how systems and individual agency interact, which is something the culture of poverty does not fully address (Cousins, 1994). Overall, both lenses show that Stans and Tinas behaviors are shaped by the culture and environment around them, including the history of the school and the city that existed long before they did.
