  • Week 8 Integrated Teaching

    Instructions

Its important for both teachers and students to find ways to maintain optimal health and wellness. While its true that not all teachers will be required to teach a Health class, all teachers can teach and model health concepts. Whether you plan to teach high school geometry or 5th grade multiple subjects, you can find ways to foster wellness principles in your classroom. Nutrition, stress management and

exercise are all areas that teachers can influence in a positive way.

In this assignment you will draw on the information you have learned in class and from your own research and reflection to create a plan for integrating wellness concepts and health standards into your curriculum. This means finding both formal and informal ways to include health awareness/standards into your teaching situation. For example, with childhood obesity becoming an epidemic, and stress,

unhealthy eating habits, and lack of exercise the major contributing factors, what can you do?

For this assignment you will need to:

    1. List what grade level and subject area you teach or plan on teaching
    2. Create a list of ten ways you can include health concepts into your teaching. The strategy chapters in the text should give you many ideas that you can adapt to your specific grade level or subject area.
    3. Reference specific grade-appropriate national and state health standards that relate to the activities that you included in your plan.
    4. Describe why you selected the activity you did for your particular grade level or subject area
