  • Cultural Concepts, Simulation & Reflection Assignment

    Objective:

This assignment will provide students with an opportunity to integrate and demonstrate their understanding of cultural competence in nursing care. Students will reflect on their own cultural awareness, engage with concepts of cultural safety, humility and responsiveness, and identify strategies for continuing their development as culturally competent practitioners.

    Introduction:

Culturally competent care is essential in providing effective, respectful, and equitable healthcare services to individuals from diverse backgrounds. This assignment allows students to reflect on key concepts discussed in Weeks 4 & 5, including cultural safety, cultural humility and responsive communication. Students will also draw on their simulation experience from Week 5 to:

    1. Create a personal plan for developing cultural competence
    2. Reflect on providing culturally safe and respectful care to individuals and communities from diverse backgrounds
    3. Identify practical ways to integrate cultural competence into nursing practice

    Instructions:

Part I – Cultural Self-Assessment and Goal Setting

Using the WeRPN Cultural Assessment Guide, Modules 5, 6 & 7, reflect on your background, biases and areas for growth. Based on your assessment:

    • Write two specific learning goals that will support your development of cultural competence. The goals statements should meet the SMART criteria
    • For each learning goal, include two actionable steps you will take to achieve them, meeting the SMART criteria
    • Your goals should reflect a commitment to cultural humility, awareness and responsiveness across diverse populations. This commitment may consider any population of patients you may encounter, including but not limited to Indigenous Peoples, newcomers, racialized groups, religious minorities, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and others.

Part II – Cultural Competence in Practice

Select one of the following options:

    • Option A: choose a patient population you are less familiar with and reflect on key considerations for providing safe care to individuals from this group.
    • Option B: Select a Call to Action related to Health from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and reflect on how it can guide nurses in providing safe care for Indigenous Peoples.

    In your response, discuss:

    • How your chosen topic enhances your understanding of culturally competent care
    • How nurses can integrate this knowledge into practice
    • Concepts from Weeks 4 & 5 that support your understanding (ex: cultural humility, anti-oppressive practice, communication strategies)

    Part III – Simulation Reflection

Reflect on the simulation activity you participated in during Week 5. In a one-page reflection, respond to the following prompts:

    • What did you learn about providing care to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds?
    • How did this experience challenge or reinforce your assumptions or beliefs?
    • How will you integrate these insights into your future nursing practice?

    Guidelines:

    • Use at least 3 scholarly, evidence-based sources (ex: peer-reviewed journals, textbooks, evidence-informed websites). Refer to the WeRPN resources on assessing sources.
    • Cite all sources in APA format, both in-text and on your reference page
    • You may use GenAI (ex: ChatGPT) to assist with Part II only. If you choose to do so:
    • Clearly paraphrase and cite the tool as GenAI in APA format
    • Upload the original GenAI-generated content as a separate Word Document
    • Review the AI Usage Policy linked in the “AI Usage Statement on H&HI Assignments”

  • Sales Force Recruitment

Sales force recruitment is a structured process companies use to find, evaluate, and hire salespeople who can

effectively drive revenue and meet targets. It goes beyond basic hiring by focusing on traits like persuasion,

resilience, and customer focus that define top performers.

The process typically unfolds in clear phases to ensure quality hires.

Identify vacancy: Start by assessing the sales team’s current size, performance metrics (like quota

attainment), and future projections based on business expansion or market changes. This involves

reviewing turnover rates, territory coverage gaps, and sales forecasts to decide if you need junior reps,

    specialists, or managers.

Prepare job description and job specification: Craft a detailed job description listing core duties

such as prospecting, closing deals, client relationship management, and reporting. The job spec outlines

must-have qualifications like 2-5 years of experience, a bachelor’s degree in business, key skills

(negotiation, CRM software proficiency), and personal attributes (self-motivation, adaptability to rejection) .

Collect applications: Advertise through multiple channels including LinkedIn, company career pages,

sales job boards, employee referrals, recruitment agencies, or industry events. Use targeted sourcing to

attract passive candidates, aiming for a diverse pool of 50-100 applicants per role.

Interview and selection: Begin with resume screening and phone interviews to filter for basics.

Advance to in-person or virtual panels with behavioral questions (“Tell me about a tough sale you

closed”), role-playing scenarios, sales aptitude tests, reference checks, and sometimes psychometric

assessments. Finalists undergo background verification and trial periods.

Appointment and training: Issue formal offers with salary, commissions, and incentives. Onboard with

orientation on company products, sales processes, territory assignment, and hands-on training like

shadowing top reps, product demos, or e-learning modules lasting 2-4 weeks.

    Key Importance

Hiring skilled salespeople directly boosts sales performance by injecting fresh energy, innovative techniques, and

higher close rates into the team.

It minimizes expensive mistakes like high turnover (which can cost 1.5-2x salary per bad hire) or mismatched

    skills that drag down quotas.

Ultimately, it builds a robust sales team capable of scaling operations, entering new markets, and sustaining

    long-term growth.

Case 4.2 Business Case: Carnival Seeks to Keep Passengers Happier at Sea with IoT, NFC and Edge Computing

A case study is a puzzle to be solved, so before reading and discussing the specific case questions below, develop your proposed solution by following these five steps:

Read the case study to identify the key issues and underlying issues. These issues are the principles and concepts of the course module which apply to the situation described in the case study.

Record the facts from the case study which are relevant to the principles and concepts of the module. The case may have extraneous information not relevant to the current course module. Your ability to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant information is an important aspect of case analysis, as it will inform the focus of your answers.

Describe in some detail the actions that would address or correct the situation.

Complete this initial analysis and then read the case study questions that follow here. Typically, you will already have the answers to the questions but with a broader consideration. At this point, you can add the details and/or analytical tools required to solve the case.

  • 180E Data Collection Methods: Focus Groups

    Preparation Assignment

Create a best practices set of guidelines for conducting focus groups

For Workshop 3, we will critically evaluate a focus group. Using the best pratices set of guidelines you create in this assignment, you will be asked to critically assess and respond to a video of a focus group – identifying strengths, weaknesses, and offering specific suggestions for modifications or changes.

To assit with your assessment/response, I am asking you to create a set of best practices guidelines for focus groups. This is a descriptive list of of: moderator behaviors, types of questions/wording/types of data collection approaches, focus group set up, selected participants. Essentially, this is a list of the charateristics, environmental qualities, conditions, moderator behaviors, type of sample populations, types of focus group activities/questions, pre-focus group preparation activities, post-focus group activities that a focus group researcher should strive to achieve to have a productive, informative, functional focus group that invites animated responses from participants, a sense of group connection, and thoughtful, candid responses.

You may organize the content of your guideliness in any order of information, but it may be helpful to think chronologically: starting with preparing for the focus group through concluding the group and wrapping up with immediate post-focus group activities; please use headings to organize your list, add a brief description why you are including that category, and then share your guidelines. Example below:

Example Guidelines (no mandatory expected number of pages – create what you consider to be a complete set of guidelines)

    Focus Group Best Practices Guidelines

    Pre-focus Group Research Preparation

(Very brief description why you included this category in your guidelines, no citations needed here)
Guideline for preparing for focus group research 1 (citation)
List additional guidelines under this category (citation)

    Preparing the Room

(Very brief description why you included this category in your guidelines, no citations needed here)
Guideline for preparing the room 1 (citation) (citation) for multiple citations
Guideline for preparing the room 2 (citation)

To prepare the guidelines and to receive full credit for the assignment, it is a requirement to draw from all of the assigned materials for 2/12 and the videos we watched in class (and cite them):

    Textbook assigned pages
Taherdoost Ch. 1 excerpts (please skip coding and analysis for this assignment)
Pages 1-12 of Designing and Conducting Focus Group Interviews (DCFGI) analysis may be skipped for this assignment
    BBQ focus group video

Airline focus group video Starting from 3:14 27:45 (end of the summary)

Please cite using the following format: (Textbook, page number), (Taherdoost, page number), (DCFGI, page number), (BBQ Focus Group: time), (Airline Focus Group: time)

Please cite at the end of each guideline. You may find multiple sources are relevant for one guideline entry, please cite relevant sources for that particular guideline. A variety of sources should be used throughout the guidelines. Each source has some unique content to contribute to your guidelines. You may find that you rely on some sources more than others and that is fine, but at least one (if not many more) guidelines should be created from each source.

AI should not be used for this assignment
