  • New Theory Paper

Write a master’s-level, 2,000-word double-spaced academic theory paper using footnotes (Chicago Manual of Style), Times New Roman 12-point font, use active voice, with a title, and answering the following questions. Utilize ideas and concepts from the theory and theorists (i.e., Clausewitz, Sun Tzu, etc.), evaluate the use of military power by the U.S. to achieve its political aims during the First Gulf War. What political aims did the U.S. seek? Did the U.S. use its military power effectively? If so, what demonstrates this? If not, why not? Use the attached articles as references, the sample paper outline, and the introductory template below and rubric for assessment. Ensure no used of AI detection and provide citations.

The paper should evaluate military theories and their applicability to joint warfighting in globally integrated operations in pursuit of national political aims.

    Formatting instructions:

The body of the paper will be double-spaced, use Times New Roman 12-point font, and have 1-inch margins (top, bottom, left, and right).

Use footnotes (not endnotes) for citations in Chicago Manual of Style format; use Arabic rather than Roman numerals. Do not include a bibliography. Consult the Chicago Manual of Style quick citation guide.

A labeled introductory paragraph that at a minimum: 1) provides a clear easily identifiable thesis that answers the assigned question, and 2) outlines the arguments presented in support of the proposed thesis. These arguments can be numbered for ease of recognition. The paper may have as many or as few arguments as necessary for answering the question. Keep in mind the paper length when deciding this.

The paper should have the following:

A clear thesis that directly answers the question. The key element here: Did the

    U.S. use its power effectively?

A clear political aim that provides a foundation for the argument. One means of evaluating the effectiveness of the U.S. use of power its power is to evaluate whether or not the U.S. achieved its political aims in the war examined, and how effective or not its leaders were in developing and implementing strategy and operations to achieve this aim or aims. Clear arguments, each examined in its own labeled section

supporting the thesis and are tied to it.

Developed arguments containing clear and substantive analysis while integrating relevant theoretical concepts.

Satisfactory use of provided materials and/or other sources.

A clear, labeled conclusion of at least one paragraph revealing the value and importance of what has been examined in the paper.

    Sample Paper Outline

    Introduction:

    One paragraph.

This includes a clear thesis that directly answers the assigned question.

It also includes the arguments that will be addressed in the paper.

These arguments serve as the outline to the paper.

It is not necessary to provide background information.

    Supporting Argument #1:

State your supporting argument and develop it using evidence from your readings.

The argument presented here should be linked back to the thesis.

    Supporting Argument #2:

Follow the same approach as for Supporting Argument #1.

    Supporting Argument #3:

Follow the same approach as for Supporting Argument #1 and #2.

    Supporting arguments as needed:

Paper length restrictions mean it will be rare to have more than three arguments. Two may also be sufficient.

    Conclusion:

One paragraph explaining what should be learned from the analysis presented.

Heres an example of the introductory paragraph template.

The United States employed military power in the Pacific Theater during the Second

World War to achieve its political aim of Japans constitutional surrender. The

U.S. waged a Corbettian campaign that: 1) prioritized control of maritime communications rather than decisive fleet battle alone; 2) used sea and air power to enable the progressive isolation of Japan; and 3) translated maritime and air control

into political coercion by incrementally restricting Japans freedom of action

    until surrender became unavoidable.

  • Designing Better Survey Questions & Responsible AI Use

This assignment consists of improving three poorly designed survey questions. The goal is for you to learn how to identify common mistakes in research questions, such as unclear wording, double-barreled questions, biased language, or unclear response scales, and to practice correcting them step by step.

The assignment is divided into several parts. First, you must analyze each of the three original questions, identify the main problem in each one, and explain why that problem affects data quality. Then, you create a first revised version of each question, improving the wording and the response options if necessary.

Next, you must use an artificial intelligence tool, but only to critique your revised questions. You are not allowed to let the AI rewrite them for you. You must copy and paste the entire AI conversation into your document. After that, you write a brief reflection explaining which AI comments were helpful, which were not, and what still needs improvement.

Later, you complete a final revision of the three questions using your own judgment and the feedback you received. You must explain what changes you made and why. Finally, you answer six reflection questions about what you learned during the process and include a required statement explaining how you used AI.

Everything must be organized into one Word document in the exact order requested, without deleting any part of the AI chat and without using screenshots. If any section is missing or out of order, you may lose points.

  • Illegal harvesting of American alligator

This is a research paper/case report, to be no fewer than 7-10 pages, NOT including references/works cited or supplemental material, such as photographs, sketches, maps, logs, etc. — these supplemental items must be included, but are not part of the 7-10 written pages. This project may require research outside of the material provided in class, especially pertaining to animal anatomy, insect evidence, etc. Step 1: Pick an animal, any animal (or bird, reptile, fish, plant, etc.)… an animal you would like to investigate as part of a wildlife crime. You will be choosing the crime and describing it, as well as setting it up physically to investigate and process. Step 2: I expect you to use your imagination: Possible scenario: you are a game warden or wildlife official – on patrol or by some other circumstance you discover or are notified of an animal (whichever one you chose in Step 1) that seems to be the victim of a crime (poaching, illegal trade, etc. the crime is up to you to choose); you must identify the animal and determine if it was, in fact, part of an illegal activity. Step 3: You will be formulating details of this animal and crime based on the things we cover in this class. For example, if you choose a bald eagle, I will expect you to describe feather structure/morphology, and how you determined the species, etc. Step 4: Construct your project as we go along in the class; since we will be covering crime scene investigation procedures along with morphology and taxonomy, describe your animal morphologically and every detail of how you processed your particular crime scene. Include which government agencies are responsible for policies regarding your animal and describe those policies; refer to legislation. Include background information on your animal, IUCN status, ecology and conservation concerns, etc. Would your scenario include impression evidence? Describe how and in what context, along with how you collected and processed the evidence. What about trace evidence? Bloodstains? DNA? Would there be a necropsy report? Whatever your particular scenario would have evidence-wise, I expect to see it all documented properly and processed in detail with results included. As we cover these topics in class, think about them in terms of your final project. Step 5: Include a full crime scene case report. Use supplementary materials: logs, sketches, photos, etc. Describe the scene and how it is processed, the types of evidence found and how they were collected, techniques used, etc. Again, which types of evidence that we’ve covered would be relevant to your particular animal and crime? Step 6: Write up some type of conclusions section based on the results of any evidentiary tests, interviews, crime scene findings, necropsy reports, etc. If you include results, you should include the testing methodologies, reports, and forms just as you would in a real crime scene report. **We will be working on this throughout the semester in stages corresponding to module sections. Certain weeks there will be assignments designed to help you develop and assemble your project. While this is to be done in a scientific format you can still be imaginative. Feel free to include a narrative of what you encountered and experienced. This is to resemble a real crime scene report that would be presented in court (albeit with a bit more animal background material than would be required). Sample Section 1: Description of case, including how you were notified, what you found on arrival, who was present, etc. Section 1.5: Animal description, ecology, background info, conservation status, legislation, etc. Section 2: What was done on-scene, what was collected, analysis, etc. Section 3: Logs, forms, sketches, photos, interviews, supporting documentation, etc. Section 4: Crime scene report Section 5: Conclusions based on findings This is just a sample! Your paper doesnt need to be broken into these sections. It can be written as a story, with relevant information included, or as a more scientific paper. I am looking to see this as an incorporation of all relevant material that we discussed this semester that would be applicable to your particular subject and scenario, but it must still be professional in format. Be sure to include proper citations (APA format) throughout your paper and in the references section at the end. NO MODELS – you cannot create a tiny model scene – this must be a life-size set-up that you can move around in, just like a real crime scene. Your final project must be submitted as ONE COMPLETE DOCUMENT, preferably in PDF form, that includes all of your photos, supporting documentation, forms, sketches, etc. Criteria Ratings Pts Initial Case Description 20 to >18 pts Full Marks All pertinent information included in case description summary, including dates/times, contact information of initial responding officers and crime scene investigators, background of notification, and general information about scene location 18 to >16 pts 90% Missing no more than 1 portion of relevant initial case description, as outlined in 20 pts section 16 to >14 pts 80% Missing no more than 2 portions of relevant initial case description, as outlined in 20 pts section 14 to >12 pts 70% Missing no more than 3 portions of relevant initial case description, as outlined in 20 pts section 12 to >0 pts No Marks Missing more than 3 portions of relevant initial case description, as outlined in 20 pts section / 20 pts Crime Scene Description and Information 20 to >18 pts Full Marks Includes full description of the scene; Pre-trial publicity is at the heart of the argument- freedom of speech (1st Amendment) versus right to a fair trial and impartial jury (6th Amendment). Pretrial publicity often has one of two effects: (1) Pro-prosecution effect, which is information (or tone) that supports the States case and paints the defendant in a negative light, and (2) Pro-defense effect, which is information (or tone) that supports the defendants case and makes you feel sympathetic towards the defendant. The content of the publicity can be either emotional or factual (or some mix of the two). Emotional pretrial publicity (i.e. makes you feel something) can be sensationalized or lurid details that may or may not be informative for jurors in an evidentiary sense. Factual pretrial publicity is unsensational information that is relevant and often explains the event and facts. For this discussion, you will need to find a headline that embodies pre-trial publicity surrounding a criminal case. Answer the following questions in your original discussion post: What is the article/newspaper headline? Put it in quotations. What is the source of the article? Put the link and list the source (e.g. CNN, the Oregonian, etc.) Is the headline pro-prosecution or pro-defense? Is the headline factual or emotional pre-trial publicity? This article (and headline) must be appropriate for a professional and academic setting. Do not post any

That communication becomes even more important when negotiations include colleagues from different cultures. Cultural differences can create communication barriers; make it more difficult to interpret each others behaviors/nonverbal communications; and also influence both the form and the substance of bargaining. Therefore, lets examine some of the personal and communication styles of various cultures.

Once you have read the assigned background article, as well as completed some peer-reviewed research of your own, answer the following:

    1. How would you concisely summarize each of the negotiation styles and preferences of cultural groups discussed therein?
    2. What specific personality attributes should you be aware of in each cultural group?
    3. If you were to negotiate/bargain with colleagues from one of the cultural groups presented in the article, what practical points should you be sure to put into practice?

Please use subheadings to show where youre responding to each required item and to ensure that none are omitted.
