  • Analyzing an argument

    1. Watch the The TED site includes a transcript as well.
    2. After watching the speech, try to summarize Leonards thesis in your own words. Write down your summary.
    3. Find the sentence in Leonards speech that seems like the clearest articulation of her thesis. Write it down, and compare it to your own version.
    4. Draw a map/diagram of Leonards argument. Your map can be as plain or as artistically inventive as you want, as long as you cover the following points:
    5. The end point should be the thesis the claim that Leonard is tried to prove.
    6. What are the steps on the way to this claim? Your map should include the major moves in Leonards argument (as short summaries, not as full quotations).
    7. What evidence does Leonard use to support each of the moves in her argument? Add this evidence (as keywords, not as whole sentences) to your diagram or map.
    8. In the end, you should have a diagram or map of Leonards argument that shows the major supports for her claim, as well as the evidence that backs up these supports. Which piece of evidence do you find most convincing? Are there any pieces of evidence you dont find convincing?

  • research plan

This discussion assignment asks you to create and explain a simple research study plan using concepts from:

    • Sampling methods (probabilistic vs. non-probabilistic)
    • Research designs (observational, case study, or archival)

    What You Have to Do

    Part 1:
    Choose:

    • A research topic (short phrase)
    • A research question (one clear sentence)
    • One research design (observational, case study, or archival)
    • One specific sampling method (e.g., convenience, simple random, stratified, etc.)

    Part 2:
Use AI to simulate an interview where the AI acts as a journalist and you act as the researcher.
The AI will ask you questions about:

    • Why you chose your design
    • Who your target population is
    • Why your sampling method makes sense
    • What data you will collect
    • How you will measure your key variable
    • What basic analysis you would use
    • One limitation of your study

You must paste the full conversation (no summaries).

    Part 3:
After the interview, answer 5 short reflection questions (12 sentences each) in your own words. These questions ask you to evaluate your design, sampling, weaknesses, limits, and what you learned.

    Part 4:
Post everything in ONE discussion board post, in this exact order:

    1. Topic
    2. Research question
    3. Design
    4. Sampling method
    5. Full AI interview
    6. Reflection answers (15)
    7. AI attribution statement

    Requirements: good

  • Anthropology Question

Compare and contrast the three ethic statements we have read (SAA and WAC for January 22; ICOM for February 12). The first two are written for two different archaeological organizations, while the third is written for museums. What values/ethical systems are enshrined in each of these codes? What is the strongest point of agreement between the three? Where do the strongest differences arise? You may want to look for other information about each of these organizations on their websites, but it is not necessary. For WAC, focus on the First Code of Ethics only.

    Requirements:

Your paper must be 2-3 pages in length, double-spaced, with a 12-point or larger font. Letter grades will be assigned based on clarity, accuracy, use of proper citations, and the strength of your argument. Grammar, style, and proofreading will be taken into account. Your essays should directly engage with and use the assigned readings for the course up through February 12. You should include citations to class readings that include author, year of publication, and page number (e.g., Lowry 1998:429). A reference page is unnecessary unless you cite something that was not assigned for class (which I would discourage).

    Requirements: 2-3 pages
