Sarbanes-Oxley Act impact on AIS for small public companies
ActDiscussion 3 – AIS and Sarbanes Oxley Act Please discuss the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on the AIS’s of small public companies. Remember, some public companies are so small that they have only a few employees. Thoughts to consider: 1. Is compliance worth it? Maybe better to go private? 2. What are the AIS requirements for SOX compliance for small public companies? 3. Can you find any examples on the web? 4. Do you have any personal experience with the issue? 5. Is using an ASP (Application Service Provider) always the best choice? When is it, and when is it not? 6. What are some specific software options? How will those options assist with compliance? 7. How do the various standards (e.g., COBIT) relate to small public companies? These are just thoughts to kick off the discussion. Please don’t view them as questions that you have to answer. Some tips on posting: 1. Please limit your total number of posts for this discussion thread to 3. Three posts are required – 1 for your unique opinion and 2 responses (see below grading instructions) 2. Do not exceed three posts. For each post of three, you automatically lose 3 points per additional post. 3. Consolidate different ideas into single posts. 4. Make clear sentences, check spelling, check grammar, avoid typos and simple mistakes to ensure maximum points. You should be treating this as something you would submit to your supervisor for final review of your work product. 5. Links need to be included in all 3 posts for where your research was came from – internet links are fine – just make sure they work. If they do not work, then they do not count. 6. NO AI – any AI used is an automatic 0 (ZERO) for the assignment, even if it is only in one post. All posts may or will be checked for AI – do not be surprised if they are. This is standard for written assignments. If you copy and past from somewhere, use quotes and references so you do not get flagged for AI usage. (see Plagiarism/AI quiz and syllabus) 7. Do not repeat what is already said – focus on your thoughts and new items. Duplicative items show that you did not read what was posted prior to completing your work. You should review all posts at the time of your submission to ensure you are not duplicating other’s items in your unique post. 8. It’s ok to agree or disagree with an existing post, or add to an existing post, but please don’t repeat. Grading Instructions and Content Expectations There is 10 points for your unique post including reference links (without reference links to material for your opinion or thoughts to show research you lose points). There are 5 points for post 2 and post 3, which are responses to your classmates that either agree or disagree with their post, the reason why, and links to your support for why you agree or disagree. This post is worth a total of 20 points. -

Statistics, Data & Hiring
The recruitment crisis has been affecting policing for several years. We need to identify the prior issues that lead to this hiring shortage. We then need to also look at the statistical data that either supports or contradicts our assumptions. Next, we need to look at 2023 and the ramifications of hiring with this shift in policing. If you are a Police Chief today this research is very important on how hiring is going affect the future of your department. We need to review the upcoming reforms and adjust. Could these reforms help with hiring, are they going to make it worse? Is there going to be monies for the mandates? Is the Quinn bill back because educate officers are a better fit going forward? We have an opportunity to discuss these issues as they unfold and hopefully have a vision of hiring in the future.
In a 3-5 page short paper please share your perspective on the challenges facing recruitment of police officers in the future. Remember to include data, to support your writing.
All references and citations in this course must be in APA format (7th edition)

Integrated Conflict Management Strategies
Writing Assignment is based on the six required readings assigned in Weeks 1 through 5 of the course: Dont Avoid ConflictsManage Them (Williams, 1997); How Management Is Constructive and When Its Not (Davey, 2021); How Management Teams Can Have a Good Fight (Eisenhardt et al., 1997); Developing Cultural Intelligence in a Global World (Thomas & Inkson, 2009); 5 Ways Executives Can Manage Conflicts with the Board (Nawaz, 2024); and How to Handle an Emotionally Charged Negotiation (McKeown, 2023).
You will write an integrated analysis applying these six readings to the following scenario.
You are the chief human resources officer of a large urban healthcare organization facing severe staffing shortages and rising labor costs. Leadership has proposed changes to shift scheduling and compensation models to improve coverage and financial sustainability. Union representatives strongly oppose the changes, arguing they will harm morale and patient care. Early negotiation sessions have become emotionally charged, with accusations of bad faith on both sides.
At the same time, the executive team is divided. Some leaders want to move quickly, while others urge caution, fearing reputational damage and workforce attrition. The board has become increasingly involved and expects a clear strategy for resolving the conflict without escalation to a strike or public dispute. Several leaders involved in negotiations come from cultural backgrounds where indirect communication is the norm, creating misalignment and unspoken resistance.
Your paper should demonstrate how you would diagnose constructive versus destructive conflict, structure disagreement productively among senior leaders, manage emotionally charged negotiations, navigate cultural differences, and advise executive leadership and the board toward a sustainable outcome. Your focus should be on synthesis and application, not isolated summaries of each reading.
This is not a summary of the readings. it’s an analysis on how you would use what you learned from the readings in reference to the scenario. The paper should be more than 4 pages and no more than 6 pages, not including the cover page and reference page. formatted according to APA guidelines and submitted as a Word document. Evaluation will focus on clarity and accuracy of understanding, depth of integration across readings, practicality of application to the scenario, organization, writing quality, and adherence to APA style. only use the references above. NO AI. the final paper will go through 3 AI detectors. any AI will result in failure of the class.

Research paper
1) It should be a 15-page (approximately, including the bibliography) double-spaced paper in Word format, and the font should be Times New Roman 12. Since the required length of the paper is approximate, papers from 11-12 pages to 17-18 pages are acceptable.
2) Besides an actual title, the paper should be divided in sections (introduction, literature review, etc.) with titles.
3) There is no need to annotate your bibliography at the end. You just need to add a list of references (books, journal articles, newspapers articles, Internet sources, etc.) with a full citation. You can choose the citation format that you like as long as you are consistent.
4) In-text citations should be in parenthesis with authors last name, year of publication, and page number(s): Examples (Waltz 1979, 24) or (Mearsheimer 2001, 50-51). If it is an Internet source or newspaper article, just author and date.
5) If you cite Internet sources (including newspapers articles), please provide the url link in the list of references.
6) Although a few short ones could be useful, please avoid long direct quotes (it is better to paraphrase).
