  • Regression Modeling

The purpose of this assignment is to assess your understanding of essential concepts in regression

modelling. It is divided into two parts: Part 1 consists of conceptual questions testing your knowledge

of key topics covered in modules 4 and 5. Part 2 is a practical exercise where you will apply these

concepts to a real-world dataset, performing tasks such as building regression models, performing

residuals analysis and including interaction and polynomial terms in the model.

Down below I attached all the instructions, a rubric to follow, and supporting data.

  • Comparative Pathway Case Analysis

Assignment 3: Comparative Pathway Case Analysis Course: Gangs in America (Masters Program) Module: Module 3 Individual Pathways & Gendered Experiences Due Date: See Canvas Points: 100 Assignment Purpose The purpose of this assignment is to examine individual-level pathways into gang involvement through a comparative and gender-informed lens. Students will apply micro-level criminological theories to analyze how developmental, social, and structural factors shape different trajectories into gangs for males and females. This assignment emphasizes critical analysis, theory application, and synthesis, moving beyond generalized explanations of gang involvement. Learning Outcomes Addressed This assignment assesses the following course student learning objectives: Analyze micro-level theories explaining gang involvement Evaluate developmental and life-course pathways into gangs Critique gendered assumptions in gang research and policy Blooms Levels: Analyze, Evaluate, Create Assignment Instructions Write a 45 page analytical paper (not including title or references) that addresses the following components: 1. Case Scenario Selection (Approx. 121 page) Select two contrasting gang involvement pathways, one male and one female. You may choose one of the following options: Option A: Use instructor-provided case scenarios (if available), OR Option B: Develop two realistic, research-informed composite profiles based on course readings (not real individuals). Each case should briefly describe: Age of gang entry Family context Peer influence School experiences Community environment 2. Micro-Level Theory Application (Approx. 1122 pages) Apply at least two micro-level theories discussed in this module, such as: Developmental/life-course theory Social learning theory Control theory Peer influence models For each case: Explain how the selected theories help account for the individuals pathway into gang involvement. Identify key risk and protective factors influencing each trajectory. 3. Gendered Pathway Analysis (Approx. 1112 pages) Compare how gender shapes: Motivations for joining gangs Experiences within gangs Exposure to victimization and control Critically evaluate how traditional gang research and policy often overlook or misinterpret female gang involvement. 4. Implications for Intervention (Approx. 121 page) Discuss how understanding gendered and developmental pathways can inform: Targeted prevention efforts Intervention strategies Trauma-informed responses Propose at least one evidence-based recommendation tailored to each pathway. Source Requirements Required: Howell & Griffiths (2019) Minimum: Two additional peer-reviewed scholarly sources Formatting Requirements Length: 45 pages Font: 12-point Times New Roman Spacing: Double-spaced Margins: 1 inch Citation Style: APA 7th edition File Type: Word (.docx) or PDF Academic Integrity & AI Use All analysis must be original. AI tools may be used only for brainstorming, outlining, or editing. AI-generated content submitted as original work is prohibited. Evaluation Criteria (Summary) Your paper will be evaluated based on: Depth and accuracy of theory application Strength of comparative and gendered analysis Integration of scholarly sources Quality of intervention implications Organization, clarity, and APA formatting A detailed grading rubric is available in Canvas. Submission Instructions Submit your assignment via Canvas Module 3 Assignment 3: Comparative Pathway Case Analysis by the posted deadline. Helpful Tip Strong submissions avoid stereotypes and demonstrate how gender, development, and structure intersect to shape gang pathways.

  • Bless Me Ultima

Please read Bless Me Ultima, and I have attached the link to the book. Use one of these links and if you have trouble accessing to these links, please let me know. OR

Choose One: Answer the question in 1-2 pages, typed, double spaced, 11 point font, 1″ margins. Thank you.

Essential Questions for Anaya- Bless Me Ultima

    1. What is the essence of a bildungsroman novel? Specifically, what are the elements that make such a narrative style a success for Anaya? Consider the role of the era in which he wrote.
    2. Other than the word sun, and variations thereof, i.e. bright, what do you remember being the second most used word in the novel? What effect does the word you chose have on the story/characters/reader.

2a. What effect does the constant repetition of individual words have

on the novel, + or -, and why?

    1. When we first looked at the book I, very briefly, mentioned Anayas reliance on historical context and identity conflict(s). With this in mind, consider the following and please find examples of each from the text:

    Interesting and unique syntax

    Shifts in POV

    Authorial interjections / tangents

Any other stylistic arrangements you found interesting

Now, briefly comment on each of the above; any comment will suffice so long as it addresses the above and illustrates your opinion about each.

    1. Do you see similarities between Ulibarris dialogue and Anayas? If so, what are they? If not, please elaborate.
    2. If you were asked to write an about the book page, typically something short that would appear on the back cover or inside flap of the book, what would you write about this book (you can write a book description if you like, but a bulleted list will be okay too)? I really want you to consider this question as very relevant, esp. in terms of capturing readers, vocalizing your intent, and establishing the parameters for your plot and characters.

  • Abstinence Activity

For this assignment, you will need to pick an activity or substance that you really enjoy and do/use on almost a daily basis. This could be a particular food or drink (e.g., chocolate, coffee, tea, etc.) or an activity (using a specific smartphone app, playing video games, or watching TV). For two weeks, you are to totally abstain from using that substance or doing that activity. For example, if you chose coffee, you are not to use or drink coffee in any form (i.e., no lattes, no espresso, etc.).

After the two weeks are over, write a 4-5 page reflection paper that addresses the following:

    1. Discuss how hard/easy it was to abstain. E.g., were you able to go the whole two weeks? How difficult was this? What helped you and/or made it more difficult?
    2. Discuss how the experience of abstaining impacted your mood, your interactions with others in your life, your ability to complete daily tasks, and your feelings about yourself.
    3. Discuss how your experience might compare to the experience of individuals who are in early recovery (or attempting early recovery) from substance use.
    4. Discuss any ways in which the experience impacted and/or changed your ideas about what it is like for individuals struggle with substance use disorders.

As this is a reflective assignment, it is fine to use first person (e.g. I felt or I experienced).

Your paper should demonstrate critical reflection on the experience of abstaining and integrate concepts from the course with your experience.

Outside sources are not required, but if you decide to use them, you should cite in APA 7th Edition format.

    Criteria & Points (Rubric)

    1. All questions are answered thoroughly and completely. (10 pts)
    2. Assignment demonstrates critical thinking and application of course concepts. (10 pts)
    3. Assignment is formatted using APA standard guidelines, free of spelling and grammatical errors. (5 pts)
