  • Reflection Paper II

You will have a chance to apply theoretical knowledge about planning and

evaluation into practice. Each reflective paper should be a minimum of 800 words, or more but

not necessarily more than three pages in length, double spaced, 11-12 point font, in Times New

Roman using APA as the writing style.

In this reflective paper, you will work on different types of evaluation and their

application to evaluations in criminal justice settings. First, you need to summarize different

types of evaluation and their purposes using both texts.

Then, you need to argue which type of evaluation is better for evaluations in criminal justice programs. Please be critical in your analysis.

When writing your paper, you need to benefit from discussions and readings during the last two weeks:

Ch 8: Working with Stakeholders: Establishing the Context and the Evaluand (Mertens, Hall & Wilson, 2025)

Ch 2: Planing a Program Evaluation (Vito & Higgins, 2015)

Article: Mitchell O, Wilson D.B, Eggers A., MacKenzie D.L. (2012). Assessing the effectiveness of drug courts on recidivism: A meta-analytic review of traditional and nontraditional drug courts. Ch 6: Outcome Evaluation (Vito & Higgins, 2015)

    Ch 7: Cost-Efficiency Evaluation (Vito & Higgins, 2015)

Cite both books (Program Evaluation Theory & Pracice) (Practical Program Evaluation for Criminal Justice) in APA format. I have also attached the first Reflective Paper (Titled: 312001-Reflective-Paper-I-Docx) as an example.

  • Article Critique

The outline has been drafted and resources have been found. (This is listed in the attached Word document.)

Read the “Framework for the Ethical Conduct of Research: The Ethical Principles of the Belmont Report,” located in the Topic 2 Resources. Then view the library tutorial on using the GCU databases and the “Finding Empirical Research Articles” video located in the Topic 2 Resources. Find a scholarly peer-reviewed journal from the library. Select a research study (complete with Method, Results, and Discussion sections).

In 750-1,000 words, analyze the article.

    • List the research question(s)/hypothesis being considered in the article.
    • Analyze how the ethical standards were applied to the study being conducted.

Summarize the ethical standards that are being considered in the study. Consider the following in your study: competence, integrity, professional and scientific responsibility, respect for people’s rights and dignity, concern for others’ welfare, social responsibility in your description.

Discuss if the study adheres to the Belmont Principles, including why or why not.

Overall, evaluate whether or not the study is ethically sound. Justify your reasoning.

    • Evaluate the method and design used to test the research question(s)/hypothesis, including:

Describe the variables including how were they defined and operationalized (Objective 2.2)?

Justify whether or not the method and design was accurate. When thinking through your assessment of accuracy, consider whether or not the methods and the design selected are aligned to the research question, whether the tools selected are reliable and valid, whether or not the variables are identified correctly, and if they hypothesis testing being used will correctly assess those variables.

Include at least two to four scholarly sources.

  • bare bones rhetorical outlike

      1. In this assignment, I’m asking you to fill out the to the best of your ability to help you map out your research essay. Go to the doc > click file > click make a copy to make a copy for yourself.

The outline does not need to be all fleshed out–it can just be in-depth bullet points that hit the main topics you’ll be discussing in Subclaim and Analysis sections + possible quotes or sources for Evidence sections (it’s a good idea to paste evidence here so you don’t have to look too hard later).

Know that the more thoroughly you fill this out, the more prepared you’ll likely be when actually writing the paragraphs.

Remember, your first body paragraph should only cover the first strategy in the thesis statement (so your two pieces of evidence in body one should be two examples of strategy one being used in the text). Your second body paragraph should only cover the second strategy in the thesis statement (so your two pieces of evidence in body two should be two examples of strategy two being used in the text).

Note: The sentence frames from the outline are there to help you get started–feel free to mess with the sentences to make it make sense to you! Just make sure you’re still hitting all the same points (analysis: strategy, appeal, audience connecting to argument and/or purpose, subclaim, significance: restate strategy, appeals, connect to argument and purpose, mention effectiveness)

      2. Directly following the Outline, you’ll need to create a Works Cited draft.

The Works Cited draft should include entries for all texts that you will be quoting in this essay
(There’s only one text you should be using, so it should be easy enough. MLA speech–you can find how to cite that in under Standard Formatting then Works Cited.)

      Turn in as a PDF.

      Remember:
      – What is absolutely necessary for your audience to be aware of/know for context to be able to understand what you’re arguing?
      – Keep it precise. Read out loud to help locate places for clarity & concision.
      – Summary and Analysis are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Summary tells us what’s up in a quote while analysis shows us why the evidence provided shows helps support the subclaim/argument being argued.
      – No rhetorical questions
      – For paragraphs: 6 sentence minimum, 1 1/2 page MAX

Requirements: no prefrance, as long as it meets the requirement in the directions

  • Case Study: Budgeting to Enhance Professional Practice and P…

    Case Study –Productivity

Jennifer Broadwater is the director of womens health for a regional nonprofit healthcare system. She has doctoral preparation in executive leadership. Prior to her current appointment, Broadwater served as a nurse manager at a small private hospital for 2 years after graduation.

Historically, Broadwaters department has run smoothly and efficiently, and it was one of the premier departments within the organization. Over the past three months, some nurses have begun requesting transfers to other departments, while others have resigned to seek employment outside the organization. The CNO is concerned and would like Broadwater to make this her top priority.

The department consists of 175 full- and part-time employees: 88 BSN RNs, 61 ADN RNs, 24 patient care technicians, and 2-unit secretaries. In the past, staff members have worked well together. Recently, nonproductive turnover has increased, resulting in additional stress among staff members and creating a negative, distrusting culture. Due to the departure of many seasoned nurses and the arrival of new nurses, staff members report feeling overwhelmed with the task of orienting new nurses and interacting with nursing students. Additionally, staff members believe that patients may not be receiving proper care.

    Staffing and Resource Management

An in-depth staff analysis reveals certain nurses with a pattern of callouts. Broadwater reports to her CNO that she will need to address productivity, accountability, and productive turnover versus nonproductive turnover. Broadwater considers the best use of her staffing mix to maximize efficiency and productivity. The hospital has Magnet designation and a shared governance model, using relationship-based care as its professional practice model. Broadwater is concerned that the shared governance model and the relationship-based care model may not be translating to the day-to-day operations of patient care delivery. Broadwater is considering an alternative nursing care delivery model that might be used with the current staffing mix to enhance productivity and better meet the needs of staff members and patients.

    Case Study Questions

    1. Broadwaters department uses a decentralized budgeting process. Using the eight steps identified earlier in Chapter 8 in the procedures for decentralized budgeting, identify how Broadwater would use her understanding of her staffing mix, patient care needs, and shared governance model to best address department problems.
    2. Using the staffing mix, how might Broadwater maximize her professional nursing capacity, considering the need to increase her BSN RN pool?

In a 3 page paper, develop a plan for improving productivity, accountability, and productive turnover versus nonproductive turnover within a unit functioning within a shared governance model. Be sure to address the case study questions noted above.Your scholarly paper should include a cover page, a narrative with an introduction, a body, a conclusion, and a reference page. Use APA format and provide examples supporting your position. Include 3-5 scholarly references within the last 5 years, unless a landmark publication, with in-text citations to enhance the credibility of your ideas, thoughts, and opinions.

Required Resources Read/review the following resources for this activity: Textbook: Chapter 11 Lesson Minimum of 2 scholarly sources Instructions Develop, in detail, a situation in which a health care worker might be confronted with ethical problems related to patients and prescription drug use OR patients in a state of poverty. Your scenario must be original to you and this assignment. It cannot be from the discussion boards in this class or any other previous forum. Articulate (and then assess) the ethical solutions that can found using “care” (care-based ethics) and “rights” ethics to those problems. Assessment must ask if the solutions are flawed, practicable, persuasive, etc. What health care technology is involved in the situation? What moral guidelines for using that kind of healthcare technology should be used there? Explore such guidelines also using utilitarianism, Kantian deontology, ethical egoism, or social contract ethics. Say how social technologies such as blogs, crowdfunding, online encyclopedias can be used in either case. What moral guidelines for using that kind of healthcare technology should be used there?
