When people talk about the value of criminological theory in the criminal justice system, theory guides the development of policy and programs allowing for the prevention of crime, improvement in public safety, and programs and policy to reduce recidivism. Criminological theory, even those earliest of theories, have come to influence society. However, as your readings highlight, one of the pressing challenges is that for many people, theory is abstractit is all academic. Therefore, it is important that you learn what theory looks like in practice.

Using your reading assignments, intellipath lessons, and other resources, create an 12-slide presentation that visually describes theory. For example:

    • What does social disorganization look like?
    • What does broken windows look like?
    • What does routine activities theory look like?

Your task is to explain your selected criminological theory through a visual presentation.

The specific steps to build your presentation are as follows:

    1. Create an introductory slide that explains what criminology is in general and what criminological theory represents.
    2. Select 3 of following the theories covered in your readings to cover in the body of your presentation:
      • Social ecology
      • Critical criminology
      • Social disorganization
      • Strain theory
      • Rational choice
      • Routine activities
      • Neutralization
      • Broken windows
    3. For each selected theory, create:
      • 1 slide that gives a summary of the theory
      • 1 slide with an image representing the theory
      • 1 slide with an explanation of why the image represents some aspect of the theory.
    4. Create a conclusion slide highlighting the value of criminological theory in reducing crime.
    5. Create a reference slide with no fewer than 4 scholarly resources.

  • Research Brief Introduction & Sample Studies

    Guidelines

    Please read the first.

You will write a persuasive and evidence-based introduction for your research brief. (This introduction will ideally be revised and later serve as the introduction portion of your final Research Brief assignment, later.)

The introduction should make a clear case for why your specific topic is important. All claims must be backed with evidence, likely from secondary sources. The text should provide a clear argument about who can use the findings from the research brief and how they might apply them.

In addition to the introductory text, you will also:

    • Provide citations for 3 primary communication research studies you plan on reading and evaluating for your literature review. Each citation must be formatted correctly according to APA standards.
    • Copy-and-paste the abstract from each of the 3 studies, to help me verify that your selections are viable for your chosen topic.
    • Provide a full References page that accounts for all of the evidence you cited for your introductory text, as well as the 3 primary communication research studies you’ve selected for your upcoming Literature Review.

It is very important that you review the before starting this assignment. The introduction portion of the paper encompasses all the text that appears underneath the title of the paper and before the Literature Review heading. For this assignment, you are only writing this introductory text. Please be reminded that evidence for the introduction can come from multiple types of sources; you do not need to rely on only primary research studies for this section. In fact, it is more likely that secondary research may be helpful here. (Once you transition into the Literature Review portion of the paper later in the semester, you will be restricted to primary research studies only.)

  • Critical reflection session 4

In 1947 a young Palestinian shepherd boy was caring for his sheep. When he came to a place called Qumran, he noticed a number of caves, and like any other young boy, he picked up some stones and began throwing them towards the caves. Soon he heard a clank and immediately recognized that something was in that cave besides mud. He climbed into the cave and found a number of jars containing scrolls, though he was unaware of what the scrolls said. From that day on, scholars have been examining those scrolls to determine their value to understanding the Bible more thoroughly. And as they examined the date of these scrolls, they were amazed as to how far back they date. Some of those same scholars began to change their minds about the Scriptures accuracy, while others attempted to make the facts conform to their pre-conceived ideas.

Write a one-page paper, which concisely addresses the following questions:

    • What is the value of the Dead Sea Scrolls in light of the previous earliest manuscript?
    • Reflect on how an early date for the Dead Sea Scrolls provides value for us today?

    SESSION 4 READINGS:

Geisler, N. L., & Nix, W. E. (2012). From God to us: How we got our Bible.

    • Chapters 12-13

  • A rose for emily

Creative Response #3: “A Rose for Emily”

Length: 500 words (approximately two pages double spaced – multi paragraphs, please! Indent the beginning of each paragraph)

Format: Times New Roman 12, one inch margins, double-spaced (Use this font)

    Due February 8 2026

Upload: MS Word Attachment or PDF ONLY

Choose either A or B (but not both)

    A. In “A Rose for Emily,” William Faulkner accomplishes a difficult writing task. He tells the story of Miss Emily Grierson from a unique perspective: the first-person plural (“we”). By doing so, he tells us about the strange events in her life from the collective viewpoints of the townspeople rather than from that of one person. He lets us know about individual townspeople’s views of the events in her life through dialogue at various points throughout the story.

In this writing assignment, you will approach the story from the perspective of one character with special insight into Miss Emily’s life – Tobe, her African-American servant. Using your imagination while staying true to Faulkner’s plot, in at least 500 words, write a journal/diary entry from the first person singular point of view of Tobe, Miss Emily’s servant. Choose one or two events from the story as the incident which you are focusing on. The incident(s) should be one which Tobe would have witnessed or have close knowledge of, such as Miss Emily’s refusal to bury her father, or the murder and subsequent living with her suitor’s body. Incorporate two instances of dialogue into your account, such as a conversation Tobe might have had with Miss Emily, her father, or any other character mentioned in the story. Please note: Use your imagination but stay true to Faulkner’s plot.

    OR

    B. You are the current mayor of Jefferson, Mississippi and are asked to deliver the eulogy at Miss Emily Grierson’s funeral in at least 500 words. “Friends we are gathered here today to mourn the death of our longtime citizen, Miss Emily Grierson.” In your response, you can also describe what is happening during and after the delivery of the eulogy. How are the townsfolk responding to or reacting to your comments – in agreement, etc?

    • What you would say, as a representative of the town, about the role that Miss Emily has played in the town’s history?
    • What aspects of Miss Emily’s life would you focus on?
    • How do you think she would best like to be remembered?
    • How do you think the town remembers her?
    • What are some events in her life that you would like to focus on – the china painting lessons to the young children, etc.?

Please note: Use your imagination but stay true to Faulkner’s plot. Don’t create a totally different story.
