Which do you think will be the strongest trend in the future: Latin pop influenced by music from the US, or “Latin-tinged” US popular music? Why?

Latin music is music that derives from any Spanish and Portuguese speaking nations. Latin American music has become significantly popular in the United States. Latin music has also influenced pop and concert music for over a century. It’s become so popular in the United States that it is now a part of mainstream American music. I believe that Latin-tinged United States popular music will be a stronger trend in the future as it already has become big. I already have seen many artists incorporate different Latin rhythms into American pop or R&B music. Popular artist Kali Uchis incorporated many different Latin rhythms into her music. She speaks both Spanish and English in her music. Throughout her album Orqudeas, released in 2024, she blended many different rhythms, including reggaeton, bolero, salsa, and dembow. Artist Bad Bunny is another great example of how popular Latin music has become in the United States. He is performing at this year’s Super Bowl, further proving that Latin music has become significantly popular throughout the United States. Not even just the United States but all over the world. Bad Bunny sings mostly in Spanish in his songs, whether it be rapping or singing. While he is mostly known for Latin rap and reggaeton, he also has incorporated Latin pop, hip hop, bachata, salsa, rock, etc into his music. These artists, along with many others, have influenced American popular music. I still believe that Latin influence on US music will have a greater influence in the future.

The composer and singer Adam Guettel has said, “Melody is memorable.” Compare the opening phrases of “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” from Oklahoma! and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Both songs are celebratory, both are in triple meter, and both feature wide leaps in the melodic line. Which melody do you find more memorable? Why?

I may be incredibly biased by this opinion, but I feel as if “The Star-Spangled Banner” is more memorable because before today, I do not remember hearing “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” at all. It gives me no sense of familiarity at all and for that I will have to say that “The Star-Spangled Banner” is the most memorable to me. From the minute I started school, there was a heavy focus on “The Star-Spangled Banner” because it is the national anthem of the U.S., but hearing it everywhere, its obvious that it will become extremely recognizable to many who have heard it since childhood. When it comes to “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”, I have not heard of it at all. I do not think I know anyone who does recognize it let alone, have heard it, so in this instance I am quite biased.

Even as I listen to “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”, I still feel as if “The Star-Spangled Banner”is more memorable. Entering any sport event, “The Star-Spangled Banner”, this song has been heard at some point by most of the country and it is one of the most recognizable songs. The amount of times one hears that song, it is only normal for it to become extremely memorable whether it’s in a recognition-type-of-way or a meaningful way. Although I do see something a little memorable about “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”, I still find “The Star-Spangled Banner” more memorable than the other song because I have simply heard it more growing up.

I believe Motown helped them gain their way into the mainstream, this gave them a lot of coverage with the things they were creating and is generally a really good thing. However, their exposure also caused the people who were once helping them to turn greedy, their creative freedom was heavily diminished thanks to this and this muted a lot of the talking points of their culture because they were black and forced to appeal to a white audience to carry on doing what they loved. I feel that hip-hop is a craft and is definitely able to be learned without having known it your whole life, but I also feel that it is something that can be experienced. I view it as another way of learning about it, and there’s a lot to know so in this case, I firmly believe it’s best to both experience it and learn it yourself some if you are interested. I like “Oh What a Mornin”‘s melody a little bit more because it feels more like a certain thing more than The Star-Spangled Banners does, it simply feels more alive to me as well. Though they both are quite good, I feel like oh what a beautiful mornin’s is just simply far more memorable and in my personal opinion it’s far more beautiful feeling of a song. If I had to put it in words I’d say it’s like the feeling of being on top of the world after something goes right for you and that feeling of everything inevitably going well regardless of how they transpire.

  • Writing Question

In Week 8, you will present a mock case study to your supervising BCBA. The slides should be short phrases or sentences as bullet points to cover the evaluation of the first six months of your treatment plan. You will be provided a referral behavior and assigned function in the courseroom by your instructor.

In this assignment, you will focus on the first part of the presentation. The slide deck requirements for the first part are:

    • Client Information and Referral Behavior.
    • Current Services Provided.
    • Referral Behavior Goal and Data Collection Method.
    • Referral Behavior Intervention.
    • Data Display.
    • Progress and Next Steps.
    • References.

    Important notes:

    • No audio recording is needed for this assignment.
    • Review the assignment instructions and rubric to ensure all required aspects are covered.
    • Use the as a starting point.
    • Remember, you are acting as the supervisor but reporting to your supervising BCBA since you are not yet certified.

    Instructions

The slides you complete for this assignment will be used for your 815 minute presentation in Week 8. This assignment is to get feedback on your content for the first part of the presentation. Include each section detailed below in your Progress Report Slide Deck Part 1.

Reminder: Your presentation should be bullet points outlining the key areas you’ll discuss. Avoid long paragraphs. Audio will be added in Week 8 to elaborate on the bullet points. Audio is NOT required for this assignment.

Use the to complete the following:

    Self-Assessment Slide (1 Slide)

This slide requires filling out the table provided. You will not change or delete any part of this table. Instead, just add in your answer for the self-assessment related to the work that you turned in.

    Title Slide (1 Slide)

Slide 1 should include the following:

    • A title for your presentation.
    • Your name.
    • The course name and number.
    • Your instructor’s name.

Client Information and Referral Behavior (1 Slide)

    • Briefly describe the individual, including:
      • Client code/name (to protect personal information-including citation to ethical codes).
      • Age.
      • Other pertinent information.
      • Your client is entirely fictional. You can base your client on your current job placement. For example, if you work in a K6 school, you can select a 10-year-old and define that fictional person’s referral behavior. If you work in an adult group home, you can select a 45-year-old and define that fictional person’s referral behavior. This allows for the assignment to be more applicable to your current workplace situation. If you are not currently working in ABA, you will fabricate a client of your choosing.
    • Label and define your assigned referral behavior.
      • Referral behavior will always refer to the behavior for reduction.
      • Provide an operational definition.
        • The operational definition should fit the fictional client that you introduced.
        • Examples and non-examples do not need to be on the slide but should be included in the audio in Week 8.
    • Label the confirmed function that you were assigned.
    • Provide the social significance of changing the referral behavior and cite at least one scholarly source to support this statement. At least one scholarly resource is REQUIRED on every slide to support your work.
    • Adhere to and cite current BACB related to information provided. BACB ethical citations are REQUIRED on every slide. Adhere to compassionate practice and cite the when appropriate.

    Current Services Summary (1 Slide)

    • Summarize the services that are currently approved and have been in place for the duration of the time you are presenting (last 6 months). Please include:
      • The setting where services were provided. This can be one or multiple settings, whatever is clinically appropriate for the client you described.
      • Materials that are needed for the intervention.
      • The funding source for the services (who is paying).
      • The approved service hours for the full team.
        • How many RBT hours?
        • How many mid-level supervision hours (non-BCBA supervision).
        • How many BCBA hours?
        • How many parent training hours? And with who? (Optional.)

Referral Behavior Goal and Data Collection Method (1 Slide)

    • Provide the outcome criteria related specifically to your assigned referral behavior.
      • The goal needs to label all components of behavior change that would need to be met for services to be considered complete and start fading.
      • Cite at least one BACB ethical code.
    • Provide the data collection method for the referral behavior.
      • State the specific type of data that was used to track the referral behavior.
      • Ensure that your data collection method matches the criterion from your goal.
      • Consider how you will visually display this data (for later in the slides).
      • Cite BACB ethical code and scholarly source to support your choice.

Referral Behavior Intervention Plan, Data, and Progress (35 Slides)

    • Briefly outline intervention procedures that were used related to the referral behavior. Remember this intervention has been in place for 6 months and was already approved by your supervising BCBA prior to starting services. You provide a brief summary of the strategies used. Details of changes or shifts in implementation will be outlined. Include:
      • The antecedent strategy used. Details related to changes within the strategy (that is, interval length changes, material changes, et cetera) should be highlighted.
      • The consequent strategy used. Details related to changes within the strategy (that is, interval length changes, reinforcer thinning, et cetera) should be highlighted.
        • Label the strategy used in response to the referral behavior. How did you train your team to react in times when the referral behavior does occur?
        • Label the strategy used to reinforce the replacement behavior you taught. Do not go into detail regarding how you taught the replacement behavior in this section. Here you are only focused on the reinforcement strategy.
    • Provide 6 months of intervention data, including a visual display, related to the referral behavior with a bulleted description of what the graph means. Include:
      • Graphical display must include baseline data and intervention data for all sessions conducted in the 6-month period.
      • Description will include label of baseline trend/variability and intervention trend and variability. You will also outline any other aspects that may be necessary.
    • Outline current progress toward the referral behavior goal and next steps related to changing this referral behavior. Include:
      • Label the outcome criteria/goal as In Progress or Met and ensure that this label is supported by your graphical display of the data.
      • Provide recommendations for the referral behavior intervention from this point. Will you continue with the current intervention? Will you start to generalize? Will you begin fading the intervention? Support your choice with your data and scholarly resources.
    • Cite scholarly references to support the interventions, data methods, and clinical recommendations you provided. Each area/slide is required to have at least one scholarly source, but some slides will need to include more than one. For example, if you list three separate interventions, you should cite three separate scholarly, behavior analytic articles. For example, Premack, DRA, and Blocking would each need a supporting scholarly source. Use the for help searching the library for behavior analytic intervention articles.
    • Adhere to and cite specific BACB related to choosing interventions. At least one BACB ethical code citation is required. Adhere to compassionate practice and cite the when appropriate.
