  • Aesthetics and Meaning in Works of Fine Art

A painting depicts a human figure standing alone in an empty space, dominated by dark colors, dim lighting, and a single light source that highlights the figure’s face. The lines used tend to be sharp and rigid.

Analyze the work based on the elements and principles of art and explain the possible symbolic meaning the artist intended to convey!

  • Reading Response 3

For this week’s reading response, answer one question from each theory fully and completely (two questions in total). To fully answer the question, tether your response to specific theory concepts from your chapter reading and use quotes from the chapter to help ground your argument (you do not need a full APA citation for quotes, just put which edition of the book you are using and a page number — (10th, p. 214), for example). Each question asks you to think in the specific (your personal experiences) and then tie it to the larger understanding of the theory. As we assess your responses, we will be looking to see that you understand the theory by being able to use the concepts from the theory to explain the specific examples. I HAVE ATTACHED THE POWERPOINTS FOR THIS WEEL LESSONS…….

Expectancy Violation Theory (EVT) examines how people respond to violations of their personal space and communication expectations. Answer question 1 or 2 for this theory.

    1. Think of a time when you or someone you know violated another person’s expectations, and it was proven to be effective (we typically think of violations as ineffective). What happened? Using specific concepts from the chapter, discuss the experience, and why you think the violation was effective. What role do violation valence and communicator reward valence play in this situation?

    2. Watch clip from Big Bang Theory. In this clip, Amy desires more physical affection from her boyfriend Sheldon, and he has been unwilling. When Amy sees their friends Howard and Bernadette kissing, Amy is particularly disappointed and confronts Sheldon. Note that expectancy is a prediction of what will happen, not a desire; even though Amy wants romance, it would be a stretch to say she expected it. Watch what happens when Sheldon violates her expectations. What role do violation valence and communicator reward valence play in Amy’s reaction?

Social Penetration Theory (SPT) explains how relational closeness develops through gradual, ordered self-disclosure.Answer question 3 for this theory.

    3. Chris Lane’s song, “I Don’t Know About You” provides an interesting perspective on SPT. Watch the music video and read the lyrics. Using the words and images from the song, how do you see SPT played out in this example? What words or images speak to self disclosure and the layers of Altman and Taylor’s onion? Be specific in your analysis, connecting examples (words, phrases) from the song to concepts from the theory.

As a new health educator, you are asked to evaluate community data and identify indicators to focus on for the upcoming year. You can use your own community or a community of your choice.

Use the following sources for secondary data:

    Assignment Expectations

Construct a 2page-paper with an infographic based on the following parts:

    Part 1

Describe your target community using descriptive data from the sources you found. Describe how you would collect primary data in your community. Explain how primary and secondary data sources differ and how they provide a different perspective on your community.

    Part 2

Identify at least 5 key indicators from your data, and rank their priority using an infographic. An infographic is a visual representation of your information. Some free software you can use include the following:

    Part 3

Describe these indicators in depth and how they contribute to health outcomes. Communicate how you know the indicators you identified are quality indicators. Describe whether these indicators are actual causes or leading causes, and explain the differences.

    Length: 2-3 pages

Assessment and Grading: Your paper will be assessed based on the rubric. You can view it under Assessments>Dropbox at the top of the page. Review it before you begin working on the assignment. Your work should also follow these .

    Instructions

Find or create a graph that “lies” by manipulating the presentation of data. Make sure to describe the graph and explain why it is deceptive in other words a manipulation of data.

Do not fake/make up data and then present that data accurately in a graph. For example, you should not make up some fake data showing that females are, on average, 12 feet tall and males are, on average, 4 feet tall, and then present that accurately in a graph. Although this is a manipulation of data, the assignment is the manipulated presentation of the data.

You may submit your work as a Word Document, PowerPoint, or Excel file. Another option is hand drawing a graph and submitting a scan/photo of your hand-drawn graph. If you do not know how to create a graph in Excel, it is a useful skill to learn and an internet search will provide multiple tutorials on how to create a graph in Excel.

If you are taking ideas, or data, or concepts from elsewhere, make sure to include a reference. If you completely make up everything on your own then no reference is needed. Either approach is fine for this assignment. While APA style is the norm in this class, formatting graphs in APA is something we have not covered and so for this assignment there is no requirement to adhere to APA style and this has no impact on your grade.

  • Programming Question

At UC, it is a priority that students are provided with strong educational programs and courses that allow them to be servant-leaders in their disciplines and communities, linking research with practice and knowledge with ethical decision-making. This assignment is a written assignment where students will demonstrate how this course research has connected and put into practice within their own career.

    Assignment:

Provide a reflection of at least 500 words (or 2 pages double spaced) of how the knowledge, skills, or theories of this course have been applied, or could be applied, in a practical manner to your current work environment. If you are not currently working, share times when you have or could observe these theories and knowledge could be applied to an employment opportunity in your field of study.

    Requirements:

    • Provide a 500 word (or 2 pages double spaced) minimum reflection.
    • Use of proper APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those must be properly cited.
    • Share a personal connection that identifies specific knowledge and theories from this course.
    • Demonstrate a connection to your current work environment. If you are not employed, demonstrate a connection to your desired work environment.
    • You should not provide an overview of the assignments assigned in the course. The assignment asks that you reflect how the knowledge and skills obtained through meeting course objectives were applied or could be applied in the workplace.

This course explores the foundational statistical concepts and methods essential for developing, analyzing, and applying artificial intelligence (AI) models. Students will gain a deep understanding of probability, hypothesis testing, regression, and data distribution as they pertain to AI and machine learning algorithms. Through hands-on exercises and practical applications, learners will develop skills to interpret data patterns, assess model performance, and make data-driven decisions in real-world AI scenarios. The course is designed for students seeking to strengthen their quantitative and analytical skills in preparation for advanced AI and machine learning coursework.

    Course Objectives

    Upon completion of this course:

    1. Explain and apply core statistical concepts, including probability, descriptive statistics, and data distribution, in the context of AI model development.

    2. Use statistical tools to analyze datasets, identify trends, and interpret results relevant to AI and machine learning projects.

    3. Utilize hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and goodness-of-fit tests to validate AI models and assess their performance.

    4. Analyze relationships between variables using regression and correlation methods and incorporate these techniques into machine learning workflows.

    5. Critically evaluate AI models’ statistical assumptions and limitations and propose methods for improving their robustness and accuracy.
