    Discussion Board Requirements

    The Online Discussion Board is designed to stimulate class dialogue that would normally take place in a face-to-face didactic setting. Participation in the Discussion Board serves as a learning strategy to help demonstrate student knowledge of course content. Each Discussion Board post will be assessed using a rubric. In addition to reviewing the grading criteria in the rubric, please note the following Discussion Board post expectations, which must all be met to earn full weekly discussion credit:

    • APA Requirements:
      Each post must have a reference and in-text citations. When thinking about what information needs to be cited, unless you did the actual research to discover the information, you must cite it.

    Initial Discussion Board posts:

    When writing your initial scholarly post (the one that answers the discussion prompt question) you must discuss the question and support your information with the text as well as an outside scholarly resource. Post a well-developed, scholarly response to Initial Discussion Board Prompts Craft comprehensive academic thoughts on the academic topic that are at least 25 words.

    • A well-developed post is meaningful, clearly demonstrates relevance to the topic, reflects critical thinking and your knowledge of the material, demonstrates synthesis of the subject matter, extends the discussion by building on previous posts, and includes proper source citations, when applicable. Posts limited to I agree, Great posting, or Thank you will not be assessed as well-developed and will therefore not be considered a contribution to the number of required weekly posts.

    Discussion Questions: Exploring Past Disasters, Incident Indicators, Nursing Implications, and Preparedness Strategies

    Research past disasters. Focus on a man-made disaster, research a mass casualty incident, biological or radiological/nuclear disaster, or hazardous material spill disaster.

    • Describe the disaster you researched. What resources were deployed for the incident? Share specific examples of preparedness, relief, and recovery.

    Per FEMA: Emergency vs. Disaster

    The terms emergency and disaster are often used interchangeably. This common use of terms can be confusing. It is easiest to understand the terms emergency and disaster as being at two ends of a scale, in which the size of an incident and the resources to deal with the incident are matched to varying degrees. Emergency at one end of the spectrum, emergencies are generally small-scale, localized incidents that are resolved quickly using local resources. However, small-scale emergencies can escalate into disasters when there has been inadequate planning and wasteful use of resources. At the other end of the spectrum, disasters are typically large-scale and cross geographic, political, and academic boundaries. Disasters require a level of response and recovery greater than local communities can provide.

    Chapter 12: Discussion on the Family

    Must post first.

    In this discussion you are to use your sociological imagination and “make the familiar strange”. Using the knowledge you have about your family history (your generation, your parents and grandparents, e.g.) discuss where you see connections between lived experience and the changing characteristics of families over time. These might include race or ethnicity, immigration to the US, social class, education, occupation, religion, gender roles, childrearing practices, etc. If you would like to include photos (no more than three) please do and tell us how they express ideas presented in Chapter 12.

    1. What Is a Family? (Sociological Perspective)

    • Families are social institutions, not just private arrangements.
    • What counts as a family varies across cultures, time periods, and societies.
    • Sociologists look at family patterns to understand power, gender roles, race, and class.

    2. Marriage Patterns Across Cultures

    This section explains how societies regulate marriage:

    • Endogamy
    • Marrying within a specific social group (race, class, religion).
    • Reinforces social boundaries and inequality.
    • Exogamy
    • Marrying outside ones social group.
    • Often used to build alliances or reduce conflict between groups.
    • Monogamy
    • Marriage between two people.

    Different ways families are organized:

    • Nuclear Family

    • Often treated as the norm in the U.S., but not universal.
    • Extended Family
    • Includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins.
    • Common in many non-Western societies and immigrant communities.
    • Kinship Networks
    • Broader systems of family and social ties.
    • Important for support, childcare, finances, and survivalespecially in marginalized communities.

    4. Changing Family Forms in the U.S.

    • Cohabitation
    • Couples living together without being married.
    • Increasingly common and socially accepted.
    • Reflects changing views on marriage, gender roles, and economic pressures.

    5. Gender Roles and Family Life

    This part focuses on inequality within families:

    • Cult of Domesticity
    • 19th-century belief that women belong in the home and men in the workforce.
    • Still influences expectations about motherhood and femininity today.
    • Second Shift
    • Coined by Arlie Hochschild.
    • Even when women work full-time, they often do most housework and childcare.
    • Highlights ongoing gender inequality in families.

    6. Race, Law, and Family

    • Miscegenation
    • Laws that once banned interracial marriage in the U.S.
    • Show how the state historically controlled family formation.
    • Overturned by Loving v. Virginia (1967).
    • Connects family life to racism and power.

    my similarity score was 12% which is acceptable but the Ai was 41% . Professor is giving me 48hr to revise and resubmit . Same patient and diagnose but as she states too perfect less generic patient visit . Also according to the rubric Im missing somethings for example in the pharmacological section I was suppose to put how much the medication cost . Id like you to look at the rubric see what Im missing revise the whole soap to match the rubric keeping the summarily score at 12% and lowering the ai tremendously .
