  • What on Earth Am I Here For? (5.1) HB/SE

    Life is a Temporary Assignment

In our previous devotionals, we explored two biblical metaphors for life: life as a test and life as a trust. This weeks devotional introduces the third metaphor: life on earth is a temporary assignment.

Have you ever felt that lifes challenges seem endless? Whether its relational tensions, professional struggles, or personal obstacles, its easy to forget that these problems are temporary. Scripture teaches that life on earth is brief and passing. Recognizing this truth should radically reshape our values, redirecting our focus from the temporal to the eternal.

This weeks reading from What on Earth Am I Here For? will introduce biblical examples of faithful individuals who, despite facing hardships and limited worldly success, were honored by God. These heroes of faith lived with the understanding that this world was not their home, and they committed their lives to serving God wholeheartedly.

As you reflect on this metaphor, consider how it applies to your own journey and professional practice. What does it mean to approach life as a temporary assignment, and how can this perspective change your approach to relationships, work, and challenges?

    POINT TO PONDER:

    • This world is not my home.

    Additional Scriptures:

    • Show me, O LORD, my lifes end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. (New International Version, 1978/2011, Psalm 39:4)
    • I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. (New International Version, 1978/2011, Psalm 119:19)
    • So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (New International Version, 1978/2011, 2 Corinthians 4:18)

  • Principals and Vice-Principals working at multiple Ontario P…

A legal research whether Principals or Vice-Principals in Ontario Public Schools who were working at two school boards at one time. While the scenarios differ, sometimes we have heard that someone might be a permanent employee at one board, but then are on the list of another board and do occasional work for them. Wondering if that could be problematic for the Principals and Vice Principals from a variety of angles – conflict of interest? With respect to the pension plan (they all pay into the same pension – OTPP)? benfeits from more than one board? It is just generally inappropriate if you aren’t open and honest with your board? If you could do some research on this genreally, and then specific to the education sector, Please draft me a memo on this with any relevent case law or policies/legislation would be helpful.
  • Psalm 13 and Trust in God during Difficult Times (SW 5.1)

In Psalm 13, the psalmist is crying out to God and asking why God seems to be distant. Often the psalmists are crying out to God asking that he hear their voices and answer their prayers. Have you ever felt as though your life was falling apart? Have you ever thought at those times that God was standing far away or hiding from you in times of trouble? In Psalm 13, the psalmist realized that though he felt that God was distant, he was confident that God would consider and answer his prayers. He trusted in Gods steadfast love, and he rejoiced in his salvation. He turned his focus from his pains and fears into prayer, praise, and faith. We must learn to do the same. During the most challenging times of our lives, we must remind ourselves that God is real, no matter how we feel. We must remind ourselves that God will never leave us. There are times that God will allow us to go through difficult trials to test and mature us. During the study, we will learn that regardless of the circumstances or how we feel, we can hang on to Gods unchanging character. The difficult times of our lives do not change the person or the character of God. We can trust in his absolute sovereignty, infinite wisdom, and perfect love. POINT TO PONDER: God is real, no matter how I feel Scripture Isaiah 8:17 NIV84 I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in him. Hebrews 13:5 NIV84 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.
