  • Week#4 Journal #3

    Objective

    • Analyze the public relations challenges associated with name, logo, and mascot changes in sports organizations.
    • Evaluate the impact of rebranding on consumer behavior and spending.
    • Assess the financial implications of rebranding for sport franchises and educational institutions.

    Instructions

    Identify Public Relations Issues:

    • Consider Key Challenges: Reflect on the most pressing public relations (PR) issues that professional sports franchises and colleges/universities face when changing their name, logo, and mascot. These may include fan backlash, cultural sensitivity, and maintaining brand loyalty.
    • Impact on Marketing Strategies: Analyze how these PR issues might influence the organization’s overall marketing strategies. Consider the need for new marketing campaigns, public outreach, and efforts to retain the existing fan base.

    Impact on Consumer Spending:

    • Financial Implications: Discuss the potential impact of a name, logo, and mascot change on consumer spending, particularly in relation to licensed products like hats, t-shirts, and other merchandise. Consider the financial costs and benefits associated with rebranding, such as the expense of creating new merchandise and the opportunity to attract new consumers.
    • Post-Rebranding Success: Provide examples of sports organizations or educational institutions that have undergone rebranding. Evaluate how these organizations have fared post-rebranding in terms of consumer spending, fan support, and overall brand success.

    Support with Evidence:

    • Use of Sources: Support your analysis with concrete examples and credible sources. Use at least three credible sources beyond course readings to inform your response, ensuring that they provide valuable insights into the PR and financial aspects of rebranding.
    • Personal Experience and Observations: Where applicable, incorporate your personal experience or observations to enrich your analysis and provide a unique perspective.

    Journal Entry Requirements:

    • Length and Clarity: Write a concise 3- to 4-paragraph journal entry that addresses the questions posed. Ensure your writing is clear, focused, and well-organized.
    • APA Formatting: Adhere to APA formatting guidelines for all in-text citations and references. Avoid direct quotes; instead, paraphrase and integrate information into your journal entry.

    Grading Criteria:

    • Your journal entry will be evaluated on the depth of analysis, use of credible sources, adherence to APA formatting, and the ability to connect theoretical concepts with real-world examples. Clarity and organization of your writing will also be important factors in the assessment.

  • Literature Review Assignment

Using the annotated bibliography you submitted, write a 4-6 page review of the literature supporting your research question and introduction. APA 7th edition should be applied throughout your paper. Your final submission MUST include a minimum of 5 references. WHAT ARE THE PARTS OF A LIT REVIEW? Per Purdue OWL — ). Most lit reviews use a basic introduction-body-conclusion structure; if your lit review is part of a larger paper, the introduction and conclusion pieces may be just a few sentences while you focus most of your attention on the body. If your lit review is a standalone piece, the introduction and conclusion take up more space and give you a place to discuss your goals, research methods, and conclusions separately from where you discuss the literature itself. Introduction: An introductory paragraph that explains what your working topic and thesis is A forecast of key topics or texts that will appear in the review Potentially, a description of how you found sources and how you analyzed them for inclusion and discussion in the review (more often found in published, standalone literature reviews than in lit review sections in an article or research paper) Body: Summarize and synthesize: Give an overview of the main points of each source and combine them into a coherent whole Analyze and interpret: Dont just paraphrase other researchers add your interpretations where possible, discussing the significance of findings in relation to the literature as a whole Critically Evaluate: Mention the strengths and weaknesses of your sources Write in well-structured paragraphs: Use transition words and topic sentences to draw connections, comparisons, and contrasts. Conclusion: Summarize the key findings you have taken from the literature and emphasize their significance Connect it back to your primary research question
