THIS IS A THREE-PART ASSIGNMENT:

PART ONE: (DUE WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11 BEFORE 1PM)

This class is all about the overall history of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Syria-Palestine from the Neolithic Period to Antiquity, focusing mostly on the period from 3000-322 BCE. This will hopefully foreground your understanding of the general timeline for the remainder of the semester, so we can refer to time periods, dynasties, kingdoms, and empires in the shorthand. It will also prepare you for the first Quiz (Geography and Timeline Quiz) on Tuesday, February 24th.

While you go over the assigned readings, pay careful attention to overarching labels, like dynasties and kingdoms. Make notes of big dates, big names, and big places. How do the timelines of these cultures line up with one another? Are there any major events that different cultures and regions share? Start thinking about what time periods seem the most interesting to you, based on this general introduction.

As this class meeting is Asynchronous, attendance and participation will be counted via a Discussion Board. Watch the Virtual Lecture, respond to the posted question, and then pose a question or bring up a thought of your own. A post on the Discussion Board will count towards your attendance score, and three responses to classmates will count towards your participation score.

PART TWO: (DUE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9 BEFORE 1PM)

ANNOTATIONS: Pick one of the readings assigned for the week. While you read it, jot down notes of interest (bullet points are fine). This should include short reflections on the reading, questions about the reading, quotes, or issues regarding the readings, as well as class questions. 15 annotations for each entry and try to include annotations of all the types listed above.

GLOSSARY: Choose 15 words that were used in one of the course readings that you didnt initially know the meaning of, that you were unfamiliar with, or that you want a deeper understanding of. Look up the definition of the word in the Merriam-Webster online and copy-paste the definition, a link to the webpage of the definition, and the citation (author and page number) of where you found the word in the readings.

PART THREE: (On Tuesday 10, I will see the post question from the professor for the reading response.)

Reading Response, DUE FEBRUARY 12 BEFORE 5PM

Every week, there will be a question posed about one of the readings assigned. Write and submit a 175250-word response to the question. While the question will be about one reading or a concept discussed, bring another assigned reading from the week into your response, and explain how it relates to the question. While the question differs from week to week, generally the questions will focus on the rhetorical argument of the reading, the function of a primary text, or how the author is explicitly or implicitly understanding the concept of religion.

Introduction

Describe the purpose and rationale for the paper. Briefly state the main issue/problem that is discussed in the paper. Discuss the prevalence of the problem at the national data, state, and even local data. For example, if you are working with an agency impacted by current national or local policies, describe the prevalence of the problem at the national, state, and even local level. Discuss the demographics based on race, gender, socio-economic status, education, etc. Describe the significance of the topic examined in social work practice and the intent of the assignment. A review of the current literature should be reviewed. Should be double-spaced,and in APA format. Please include a cover page with the names of all group members listed.

Included in this section should be: 1) Introduction to your capstone topic and rationale for choosing this topic; 2) Description of the topic/system you are researching (ex. children, families, veterans, aging, etc.); 3) What data is presented in scholarly articles and other literature as it relates to what you would like to learn more about? Include the prevalence of the problem at the national data, state, and even local data; 4) Describe the significance of the topic examined in social work practice and the intent of the assignment.

In the HBSE section of your paper, you should provide the following:

As it relates to your capstone topic – Choose at least one human behavior theory to guide client assessment ( i.e. development, Erikson’s psychosocial, theory of trauma, system, ecological, attachment, resiliency, psychodynamic social learning, behavior, person-centered, family emotional systems, structural family theories). 2-3 pages total. Must include at least 3 references.

1. Select and describe one (1) human behavior theory relevant to your topic. Do not use dictionary or Wikipedia definitions for theories. Citing your textbooks, other books, and journal articles is essential.
2. For the theory, provide a rationale for your theory selection. Discuss your decision-making process.
3. Apply the theory to your topic. Be sure that your discussion of human behavior theory links well to your topic.
4. Analyze and provide evidence-based knowledge to support the theory. Include a carefully referenced comprehensive range of literature sources, including books, peer-reviewed journal articles, research studies, government documents, reports and data; and web sites. There should be emphasis on evidence-based knowledge.
5. Evaluate the strengths and limitations of current knowledge and the resources available with regard to the selected theory.
6. Include any other discussion, information, or analysis that you think is relevant.

Include a cover sheet with your name(s), instructor name, course number and title, and date. Also, you must include references (a minimum of 5 references that are at most 10 years old – please email me if you want to use a reference over 10 years old). The paper must be prepared using the APA style and 12-point font and consist of 4-6 double-spaced pages (not including the title page and references all references must be listed at the end of the document in alphabetical order).
