  • Trauma Exposure: Intergenerational Trauma

    Original Assignment Description:

Your Assessment Plan should be approximately eight pages, excluding the outline, title page, and references.

Social Problem and Topic Choose valid, reliable, and relevant sources of information to identify a persistent or emerging social problem/need that social workers address through micro-, mezzo-, or macro-level practice. You may focus on a topic of interest to you or a topic that complements your practicum or completes your MSW body of work. Be sure to consider how social workers have or could promote social, racial, economic, and/or environmental justice for this social problem. (There must be enough valid, reliable, and relevant empirical evidence to support your Intervention Plan in the second paper.) The social problem is the broader macro-level issue of which your capstone topic is a more specific subset which will include a specific

intervention, population, etc. Be sure to differentiate the social problem from your topic and define and operationalize any relevant terms.

Prevalence Rates Document how many people are affected by the social problem – provide empirical estimates of prevalence. Are any subgroups impacted by this issue more than others? Consider our Code of Ethics (COE) and Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) principles to explain how/why these populations are disproportionately impacted.

Historic and Social Context Briefly provide the history of your social problem/topic. Again, was this history disparately experienced based on group membership? Then, explain the impact of your social problem at the micro-, mezzo-, and macro-levels of practice.

Local Impact/Response Describe the local impact of your topic. Who in the local community is addressing this topic? (Ideally this is Charlotte, but if you are from somewhere else or are familiar with another community, you may use it to describe the topic and response at the local level). What are the current strengths/gaps in services locally (and if necessary, regionally, or globally)?

Theory – Identify and explain one HBSE (Human Behavior in the Social Environment) theory that informs work on this topic or with this population or that undergirds your intervention (using reputable/scholarly sources). Choose just one theory so that you can cover it in depth, as your competency in explaining the role of theory in your project is being assessed. Describe the theorys major tenets and then demonstrate how it informs your topic. Finally, apply ADEI principles to critically examine the strengths and weaknesses of applying this theory to your topic.

The google doc has more information about the section and overall project. There is also some articles already linked and what section it could be used for. The teacher stated that the eight empirical studies should back the intervention as applied to address the social problem but if they dont all fit that’s fine just to get as close a possible. The biggest thing to pay attention to as well in the google doc under assessment plan I listed the subtitles and in () are notes to go along. For example with Historic and Social Content she wants to address the social problem through micro, mezzo, macro settings.

PS: The prevalence rate and historic content is about the social problem, the local impact is about the intervention and theory Is your theory.

If it’s a struggle im willing to change the social problem, topic, intervention or theory based research found and what’s easier to do so defiantly can discuss adjustments if need be.

This is also the first section of three so want something I easily pick up on when going into paper 2.

PS: this is also a draft so does not need to be perfect.

  • School Shootings (and other violence)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I know you’re aware that large-scale school shootings happen with alarming frequency, and, smaller scale school shootings happen all the time. My question to get you all thinking about this topic is what preparation does your particular school site where you’re interning have for incidents of shootings if they happen? What preparation do you have as a counselor as to how to deal with student reactions to them?

You may also need to do a little bit of research if you’re not sure of the issues surrounding school gun violence, the 2nd Amendment, and gun laws in general.

  • Critical Thinking Exercise #2

Police use of deadly force remains a controversial topic in political and academic circles. Two highly influential studies (attached below) on the role of race in police use of deadly force were published within a year of each other in the same peer-reviewed academic journal (Criminology & Public Policy). They used very different methods, and they reported very different findings.

On one hand, James et al. (2016) used a high-fidelity laboratory experiment in which 80 police officers were given realistic guns and were put into a training simulation range. In contrast, in the Nix et al. (2017) study, the authors used a dataset compiled by The Washington Post on 990 fatal police shootings that occurred in 2015. Nix and colleagues were unable to examine incidents in which officers did NOT use deadly force, but instead they investigated whether Black or White suspects were more likely to be attacking the officer and/or be unarmed during these events.

In this assignment, students will read these two articles (attached below) and critically evaluate the advantages and limitations of both studies. You will write a short paper (2-3 double-spaced pages, 500-700 words) in which you summarize the research questions, methods, and findings from each of these studies. You also will discuss which of the two studies approaches you found to be more advantageous, effective, informative, or convincing. Next, you must locate, cite, and discuss ONE additional research study published in a peer-reviewed academic journal that focuses in some way on police use of force. In your paper, you should describe how the findings from this additional study correspond with, contradict, or complicate the conclusions from the studies by James et al. (2016) and Nix et al. (2017).

Your paper should include five components:

    1. A brief description of the studies by James et al. (2016) and Nix et al. (2017)
    2. A discussion of which studys approach you found to be more effective or convincing
    3. A summary of the additional peer-reviewed study on police use of force that you located
    4. A discussion of how this study relates to the articles by James et al. (2016) and Nix et al. (2017)
    5. A References page with a proper APA-style citation of your additional article

  • Intro to Health Services Administration Culminating Final P…

    Culminating Final Project Prompt:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that will increase the proportion of Americans 65 years or older so that in 2030, 20% of Americans will be in this age group. At the same time, 92 percent of older adults have at least one chronic disease, and 77 percent have at least two. This places a heavy toll on the healthcare system. How will the healthcare industry need to adapt in order to meet the growing and complex needs of the populations served?

As Forbes reports, employee retention is a top concern in many industries, healthcare included, because this eliminates costs of finding new employees and improves an organization’s reputation. Adding a nationally-renowned physician will bring in more patients and increase revenue, but it can be just as important to keep current staff members. This project idea explores the reasons professionals often leave positions as well as what would motivate them to stay. As an incoming health administrator, suggest methods of improving company culture and employee benefits.

Generate novel ideas by applying new findings on medical talent acquisition and retention. Develop a master plan to increase retention by 25%. Use your interview from the course to see how current administrators attract and keep talent while also infusing your new ideas (more pay is not always the answer). Include data on the special population for your chosen area (choose an urban or rural setting) so you can have a diverse hiring pool which matches the patients.

The final project must include the following recommendations:

    1. Identify Internal/external stakeholders
    2. Planning
    3. Coordination (who does what)
    4. Implementation (include monthly schedule of when target goal will be reached)
    5. Evaluation (ex: employee satisfaction survey)
    6. Resources (ex: what incentive will be given to hire top candidates)
    7. Risk Management (ex: professional liability insurance)
    8. Marketing (ex: dont just hand out flyers or depend solely on social media)
    9. Anything else that would need to be managed to be successful (ex: data on benefits employees value most)

The report should be written in the following format:

Introduction with Mission statements, goals, and objectives

Please review the APA Manual for considerations for writing an introduction. The introduction should state the purpose of the research and/or the specific problem [or concept] under study and describe the research strategy (APA Manual, 7th ed., 2020).

    Conclusion

    Other grading criteria:

    Adherence to Guidelines:

Your final project should be 5-10 typed pages, should be double-spaced, and pages should be numbered. The paper should be typed in either Times New Roman at 12 font

    Overall Quality & Structure:

Your essay should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. It should flow properly and be clear, concise, and written in a professional manner. You should use headings as described above. You should include a reference page in APA 7th edition format. The reference page does not count toward your pages. You should write for quality and clarity rather than quantity.

    APA 7th edition/Use of Sources:

Your paper should be formatted in APA 7th edition formatting. You should document your text as a source and include a minimum of 5 additional sources.
