  • A & P IV Discussion Post

    Initial Post Instructions

This area provides you with an opportunity to reflect on what you have learned so far in this course and what concepts seem unclear.

Start by sharing a short summary of what you have learned (2-3 sentences) this week about the fluid distribution in our bodies, role of hormones to regulate fluid volume and electrolyte imbalances and then write 2 questions related to concepts that are still unclear.

Faculty will review this discussion and address common questions in the forum.

    Follow-Up Post Instructions

As a follow up, respond to a peers question and discuss how you have prepared for the exam this week and what has helped you so far in your learning process.

    Writing Requirements

    • Minimum of 2 posts (1 initial & 1 follow-up)

    Post to respond to:

This week, I learned that body fluids are distributed between intracellular and extracellular compartments and that maintaining balance between these spaces is essential for normal cellular function. Hormones such as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), aldosterone, and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) play key roles in regulating fluid volume and electrolyte levels by controlling kidney reabsorption and excretion of water and sodium. Disruptions in these hormonal mechanisms can lead to fluid imbalances such as dehydration, edema, or electrolyte disturbances.

    Questions:

How do multiple hormones (such as ADH and aldosterone) work together or compete during acute fluid imbalances like dehydration or fluid overload?

What clinical indicators best help nurses differentiate between fluid volume excess caused by hormonal imbalance versus cardiac or renal dysfunction?
