  • Discussion Topic Week 5 Nursing Theory

Read and follow the instructions one by one. Check guidelines as well

    Discussion Topic:

Describe how the theory of cultural marginality corresponds with caring in the human health experience. Provide an example from practice where you worked with a person who was living on the margins.

    Objective

    • Connect Theory to Practice: Explore how cultural marginality, a theory that examines the experiences of individuals who exist on the peripheries of mainstream culture, intersects with the principles and practices of caring in nursing. Your goal is to describe this relationship and illuminate how compassionate care can positively impact individuals who are marginalized.
    • Evidence and Reflection: Use practical and evidence-based examples from your clinical experience to demonstrate these concepts. Your discussion should not only define and explain the theoretical aspects but also provide a concrete, real-world example of caring in action with a patient living on the margins.

    Content Guidelines

    1. Introduction

    • Set the Stage: Begin your post with an introduction that briefly outlines the theory of cultural marginality. Explain the origin, primary assumptions, and significance of the theory in relation to healthcare.
    • Link to Caring: Introduce the concept of caring in nursing, why it is essential for healing, its impact on patient outcomes, and how it embodies the empathy and support fundamental to nursing practice.

    2. Describe the Theory of Cultural Marginality

    • Key Concepts and Definitions:
    • Define cultural marginality in your own words. Explain what it means to experience marginality in a cultural context, including factors such as social isolation, stigma, or discrimination.
    • Discuss how the theory conceptualizes the challenges faced by those on the margins and how these challenges impact their access to healthcare, quality of life, and wellbeing.
    • Connection to Caring:
    • Describe how the principles of caring in nursing (such as empathy, respect, and individualized attention) can help bridge cultural gaps.
    • Explain how caring is a vital response to the vulnerabilities faced by persons living on the margins, ensuring they feel seen and supported despite systemic challenges.

    3. Provide a Practice Example

    • Real-World Application:
    • Present a specific example from your clinical experience where you encountered a patient or client who was living on the margins.
    • Detail the context of the situation, include information about the patients background, the challenges they faced due to marginality, and how these challenges influenced their healthcare experience.
    • Analysis:
    • Explain how you applied the principles of caring to this situation. What specific actions or interventions did you take? How did these caring practices help to alleviate the patients feelings of isolation or vulnerability?
    • Discuss the outcomes, how did providing culturally responsive care impact the patients health, trust in the healthcare system, or overall experience?

    4. Evidence-Based Support and Scholarly Integration

    • Cite Scholarly Resources:
    • Integrate at least two peer-reviewed articles that either discuss the theory of cultural marginality or provide insight into culturally responsive caring practices in nursing.
    • Summarize key points from these sources, such as research findings, theoretical implications, and recommendations for practice.
    • APA Guidelines:
    • Follow APA 7th Edition formatting for all in-text citations and your reference list. Ensure your references are current (preferably published within the past 5 years) and clearly support your discussion.

    5. Synthesis and Conclusion

    • Wrap Up Your Discussion:
    • Summarize the main points of your post by reflecting on how the theory of cultural marginality is deeply connected with caring in nursing.
    • Address the broader implications for patient care, how can understanding cultural marginality guide nurses toward more empathetic and effective care for diverse populations?
    • Final Reflection:
    • Consider what this perspective means for your future practice. Why is it essential for nurses to be aware of cultural marginality when designing care plans or interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds?

The lungs interface with the environment, bringing in atmospheric air during inspiration, and expelling mixed airway and alveolar air during expiration. Gas exchange occurs in the alveoli and depends on lung mechanics as well as blood flow in taking up oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. The lungs receive all of the blood flow of the right heart, a low-pressure system that perfuses the millions of alveolar capillaries for gas exchange.

How does smoking-induced damage to lung tissue lead to emphysema?

What is the rationale for using -agonist drugs in diseases of increased airway resistance?

You will be creating a series of reports and analyzing the results using the template provided to guide you through the project. You will:

    1. Gain an understanding of product costing (direct materials, direct labor, and overhead).
    2. Review job order costing.
    3. Review process costing.
    4. Make business decisions based on analyzing accounting data.

Length: You will prepare a three- to four-page written report (including spreadsheets) using the .

References: At least two peer-reviewed sources are required. Resources used are required to be scholarly/academic in nature and found in the CSU Library. APA Style is required for citations and references.

Details: First, start the paper with an introduction section per the assignment template provided above.

Part 1: Establish a cookie business selling only one type of specialty cookie with two employees making the cookies.

    • Create a name and establish a location for the business.
    • Construct a mission statement for the business.
    • Decide on the type of cookie you want to make and sell.

Part 2: Develop costing and sales information for 1,000 cookies (this is the first and only order).

    • Estimate and explain the cost per cookie based on job order costing (manufacturing overhead is 30% of direct labor costs). Prepare a job order cost sheet by researching and identifying the top five ingredients and their estimated costs as your direct materials. Research and identify the cost of wages for your two employees as your direct labor. It typically takes two days to make 1,000 cookies.
    • For process costing, examine the costs per 1,000 cookies looking at these top three processes (departments): Mixing, Add-ins, Packaging.
    • The Mixing Department will be examined in depth (only do this department).
    • All materials will be added in at the beginning of the process.
    • The cookies will be in the Mixing Department for a total of 8 hours (use two employees, 4 hours each as your direct labor). The cookies will be 100% complete with respect to materials, and only be 40% complete with respect to conversion costs (labor and overhead) before they are transferred to the Add-ins Department. Manufacturing overhead is 30% of direct labor costs.
    • Estimate and explain the sales price you plan to set per cookie based on the cost data.

Part 3: Define job order and process costing. Then, compare and contrast the costing methods used in this project (job order vs. process costing), including which you believe provides the most useful information as a manager.

Part 4: Discuss what will happen to revenue if the number of the cookies sold increases or decreases.

End this paper with the key observations and present any future recommendations.

Use the for your job order, and process costing spreadsheets to be embedded in your case study document.

Submission: Save the submission as a Word document and upload the document to Blackboard.

  • Biotechnology Bioprocessing

The rapid development of antibody therapies has significantly changed the therapeutic landscape over the past35 years There are many promising options that haev emerged as our understanding of the immune system has become more nuanced.

For this assignment, you have been given the task of assessing the production process of one of these antibody therapies that is under development and how it may be scaled-up and optimized. With the rush to get effective therapies into clinical studies, there are many things to consider downstream: it will take time to establish a large-scale production pipeline but there are limited facilities for that production. What may have worked for small-scale preclinical studies may not be optimal at large scale, and there is a large unmet need once therapies are approved but also a high likelihood that needs will evolve and there will be a need for testing. Do you think the biologic you are assessing should be given priority?

    Week 7 Details

    • Identify an antibody-based therapy currently undergoing clinical trials in the US here, by looking under the column “Interventions” and choosing a Biological:” which is being compared against Placebo or standard of care (please do not pick a small molecule drug, Device, Other, Diagnostic Test etc. nor a combination therapy involving multiple drugs). You can pick an antibody biological at any stage of active development:
    • Carry out independent research into this therapy and how it is currently produced. Normally there are papers listed on the clinicaltrials.gov page, or you can search PubMed, Google Patents, the UMGC library or similar services for information. Identify at least one peer-reviewed publication that describes the bioproduction of the therapy. If you are unable to find a description of how the therapy is produced in a fermenter / bioreactor, please go back to step 1 and choose a different drug / biological. Please do not pick a small molecule drug which is synthesized by chemical reactions because you will not be able to answer the assignment questions. Not all drugs / biologics are equally well described in the literature. In grading I will take this into account – if your antibody is first-in-class or generally less common, you will be rewarded more for information you do find or best guesses based on similar products.
    • Write a concise and articulate report written in prose, addressing the following five points:
      1. Biologic: What is the name of the biologic? Is this a antibody that is already approved for other indications? Who is sponsoring the trial? What stage of development is the biological (what clinical trial phase) and what indication is being examined?
      2. Expression system: What is the expression system used? Why is this the optimal choice? Describe at least 3 strengths and 1 potential weakness of the expression system for bioproduction of this therapy. (if you can’t find information on an expression system, please go back and choose another therapy)
      3. Genetic manipulation: Describe how the organism is genetically engineered for production of the biologic, citing at least one peer-reviewed article or patent. What are the key steps that have been taken to validate and optimize yield? (if you can’t find information about the genetic manipulation steps please go back and choose another therapy)
      4. Bioprocessing pipeline: Identify at least one peer-reviewed article or patent that describes production of the therapy. Describe the production process, noting the current scale of production, and specific upstream steps, fermentation conditions, type of bioreactor used, how biomolecules are harvested, and downstream processing. Are there any steps that may be optimized? If the paper describes small scale production (< 100L), describe how you would scale up production, noting any changes you would make for large-scale production.
      5. Alternative strategies: How else can the same drug be produced? Describe other potential expression systems or bioproduction methods that might: 1) improve yield and reduce costs, 2) decrease production time or process complexity, or 3) improve clinical efficacy or reduce side effects. What are the biological and commercial advantages of your chosen drug and production method compared to alternate therapies for the same indication under development? Do you think your therapy will make it to market and be successful? If so, why; if not, why not?
