    Overview

In this assignment, you will use the work you have already completed to begin forming the introduction of your project. Specifically, this assignment will assist you with continuing to work with identifying the topic of the text, describing the writers purpose, articulating the core idea of the text, and summarizing details of the text that are relevant to the core idea. These steps will help you develop the hook and context sentences that you studied in this module and combine them with the thesis statement from the previous assignment to form a full introductory paragraph for your analysis project.

    Directions

For this assignment, you will write an introduction for the first version of your paper. You have already identified the topic, the audience and their needs, and the writing situation. Additionally, you have written a thesis statement. Now, it is time to put all these elements together to form the introduction.

According to the authors of your textbook, Ruszkiewicz and Dolmage (2022), an introductory paragraph has four purposes:

To draw your reader into the paper

To introduce the topic of the paper

    To provide some background information

To present the main idea (thesis statement) of the paper

Address each of these four purposes by composing an introductory paragraph using the template linked in the What to Submit section.

    Notes:

Introducing the topic and providing some background information can be combined to form an overview of the topic.

The terms essay and paper are synonymous regarding the textbook language and this assignment.

The terms main idea and core idea are synonymous regarding the textbook language and this assignment.

Reference: Ruszkiewicz, J. J., & Dolmage, J. T. (2022). How to write anything: A guide and reference with readings. 5th ed. Bedford/St. Martins.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

Draw the Reader: Write sentences to draw the reader into the paper.

These sentences represent the hook or attention-grabber for the introduction.

This part of your introduction should be around one or two sentences long.

Provide an Overview of the Topic: Write sentences to provide an overview of the topic, including the title and author of the reading that you selected.

Introduce the topic of the paper, including the title and author of the reading that you selected. This part of your introduction should be around one or two sentences long.

Provide background information for your audience. Summarize the reading briefly and highlight primary details from it. This part of your introduction should be around one or two sentences long.

Thesis Statement: Include the thesis statement you created in the previous assignment in Module Four.

This part of your introduction should be one sentence long.

This section is where you will use your thesis statement from the previous assignment in Module Four.

Form an Introductory Paragraph: Compile all sections to form an introductory paragraph.

Compile sections 13 of this assignment to form a paragraph.

To do this, you will have to copy and paste your previous responses and combine them into an introductory paragraph.

  • Thesis

    Overview

In this assignment, you will be guided through decisions in order to create the thesis statement for your project. When you create a thesis statement, you create a structure for the ideas in your project. That structure also helps your reader know what to expect once they keep reading the rest of your paper.

    Directions

Address the following items in chronological order. The answers to these questions will help guide you in forming your thesis statement for your project. Submit the answers and your thesis statement using the template linked in the What to Submit section.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

    Part One: Identify the Topic

Address the following items, which will become the first part of your thesis statement.

    Topic: Identify the topic.

What is the topic of your analysis?

    Claim: State the claim.

The claim is what is true or misunderstood about the topic.

Remember that this is your claim about the effectiveness of the text.

What do you believe is true, or what do you believe people misunderstand, about your topic?

Combine the Topic and Claim: Combine your topic and claim to form the first part of the thesis statement.

Remember that this is just the first part of the sentence that will be your thesis statement, but it is not yet the full thesis statement.

Part Two: Second Part of the Thesis Statement

Address the following items, which will become the second part of your thesis statement.

Why the Claim Is True: Explain multiple reasons why the claim is true.

Provide three reasons why your claim is true.

How/why is it true or not true?

Combine the Why Responses: Combine the multiple reasons why the claim is true to form the second part of the thesis statement.

Part Three: Compose the Full Thesis Statement With the First and Second Parts Combined

Thesis Statement: Compose the full thesis statement with the first and second parts combined

The full thesis statement should be formed by combining the partial statement about your topic and claim (from #3) and the partial statement identifying the reasons why the claim is true (from #5).

The two partial statements should be formed together to make one whole sentence, which is the thesis statement. Feel free to make adjustments to the wording so the two partial statements fit together smoothly. Remember that this thesis statement will become the final sentence of the introductory paragraph that you develop in the next assignment.

  • Human Resource Management week 3 B

    Adelph Walley

    Jan 26, 2026

1 Samuel 16:7 highlights the importance of discernment in leadership, reminding us that sound decisions require looking beyond surface-level impressions. Chapters 5 and 6 stress that evidence-based selection practices are essential for ethical and effective hiring. According to Dessler (2020), selection tools are valuable only when scores on the test relate in a predictable way to performance on the job (p. 198). Job-related, data-driven practices protect organizations from poor hiring decisions while also honoring the dignity of candidates through fairness and consistency.

As a leader, I would rely on achievement tests, structured interviews based on job specifications, and work-sample tests to ensure hiring decisions are valid and legally defensible (Dessler, 2020, p. 206). In a marketplace setting, pressure to hire quickly is common. I would balance this pressure by planning ahead, using validated tools, and documenting decisions carefully. This approach supports organizational needs while demonstrating responsible, biblically grounded leadership.
