  • Literature Review

    Instructions:

The purpose of this assignment is to get you thinking about your term paper. You will submit drafts of your paper throughout the semester for brief feedback by the instructor to improve your final term paper. Based on the topic you selected in Week 1 and after beginning to review scholarly sources about your topic, provide a detailed outline of your paper. The outline should include the following sections:

    1. Introduction

    a. Brief summary of the problem and policy:

    2. Literature Review

    a. _________________

    b. _________________

    c. _________________

    d. _________________

    3. Theoretical Explanation for Policy

    4. Recommendation(s)

    5. References

Where your assignment will look different from your peers will be specific to parts 1a and 2a-2d.

Part 1a should provide a brief summary of the problem at hand and the policy specific to that issue. This can come verbatim from your paper selection and rationale assignment from week 1.

Parts 2a-2d should include subsections of what you will discuss related to your specific policy issue. While these sections may change as you begin writing your paper, it is important to have an outline of topics to keep your paper organized and ensure that it includes at least some of the main issues you will discuss.

For example: If I selected a paper topic on the death penalty I would preliminarily include the following topics to discuss in the literature review:

    2. Literature Review

    a. Creation and Brief History of the Death Penalty

    b. Prevalence and Differences in the Death Penalty in the United States today

    c. Research on the effectiveness of the death penalty

Issues related to the effectiveness with the death penalty including racial and sex differences

This assignment is meant to make sure you have explored your topic at least from briefly enough to know the policy, potential issues, and give me an opportunity to point out other factors that you might want to consider. Overall, this is a completion based assignment. However, you should still review the rubric below.

  • Discussion 2

Discussion Board 2 This discussion board covers the information in Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8. Before posting, be sure to carefully review the instructions and grading rubric in the syllabus and review the feedback left on your last post. For your initiator post, choose just one question from the end of one of the chapters. For example, there are five questions to choose from on page 119 in Chapter 7. Make it clear at the top of your post which question you are answering. Include your opinion if the question asks for it, and feel free to use the first person, such as “I think…” and “I believe…” A strong post will include moral theory in it, such as universal ethics, and make connections to the case study in the chapter. You must also include direct quotes and citations from the chapter(s). Again, review the instructions in the syllabus before posting. You may write your post in Word and copy/paste it into the Canvas text box, but do not use the attachment feature. You must post first to see the posts of your classmates. Your first post will be counted as your initiator post submission whether it is complete or incomplete. After you post your initiator post, don’t forget to come back and post your response posts (see syllabus instructions). You may use A.I. to help you study, but you may not use A.I. to write your post for you. Please email the instructor or teaching assistant if you have any questions. Draft a one-page informal business proposal in which you first define the venture for which you are seeking investment to complete a proof-of-concept test. You are seeking an investment of $150,000 from a venture capitalist, and you plan to make a diagnostic assay test based on antigen-antibody principles to accomplish a medical diagnostic of your choice. You can choose a medically relevant topic of interest, such as a test for COVID-19 aimed at the detection of particular proteins, as long as the venture seeks to detect the presence or absence of infection in the body.

Your business proposal should include a high-level explanation of how this concept could work. Develop a schematic using inputs and outputs to show which indicators the assay is reading, and how it uses those indicators to decide the state of the readout being examined. You can use diagrams, figures, flowcharts, and whatever else comes to mind to describe your idea. You will include a breakdown of the budget, which may include several parameters such as product /development, research and development, and manufacturing costs. (Obviously, we’re not working with a lot of information as to how much things will actually cost, so don’t worry too much about being completely accurate with this budget; it is more of an intellectual exercise.)

  • Research Paper

The research paper should determine your organizational tactical response to a weapon of mass destruction (WMD) terrorism event at a specific location selected by you. You must select your level of government involvement and the various cooperating agencies that might assist you (local, state, tribal, or federal).

Your final research paper should consist of the components listed below.

    • Present a thorough description of a specific type of WMD threat at your selected event. Determine an incident location in your own city, tribe, or state.
    • Describe the demographics of the affected population, and list possible casualties based on the type of WMD selected.
    • Detail your likely operational emergency medical response, homeland security response, and recovery outcomes.
    • Choose a terrorist organization to use for your scenario. Describe the terrorist organization most likely responsible for the WMD incident at your chosen location. Discuss background information about the organization. Describe how the organization likely acquired the materials to create the WMD.
    • Discuss the potential risks and threats posed by your selected WMD. Describe the development of the WMD, what technology it uses, and what laws regulate materials used in the WMD.
    • Discuss all conceivable response operations at the level of government you have selected (local, state, tribal, or federal).
    • Provide a description of the homeland security/emergency management organizations at all levels that you can coordinate with via the Incident Command System (ICS).

In addition to the required components, you must include an introduction and a summary of your findings in your paper. The introduction should provide a thesis statement and a brief overview of the paper’s topic. The summary should provide the results of your findings and solutions based on research and best practices.

You must include at least five scholarly sources, three of which must come from the CSU Online Library. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. Please note that no abstract is needed.
