Design Task Social Awareness Poster (Adobe Illustrator 2025)

Create a clean, elegant, and impactful poster that delivers a strong social message:

(Their difference is not a disease)

    ### 1. Concept & Message

The design must visually communicate the contrast between:

    – Societys misjudgment (negative perception)

    – The true beauty of difference

The idea is to show that what people label as abnormal is actually a source of beauty and uniqueness.

    ### 2. Canvas Setup (MANDATORY)

    – Software: Adobe Illustrator 2025

    – Profile: Print

    – Size: A3

    – Orientation: Vertical

    – Units: Centimeters (cm)

    – Color Mode: RGB

    ### 3. Layout Structure

    – Divide the canvas into two vertical halves:

    – Left side Negative perception

    – Right side True identity / beauty

    – The split should be subtle but clearly noticeable (through color or lighting contrast).

    ### 4. Left Side (Negative Perception)

    – Use light grey tones

    – Design should feel:

    – Calm but slightly dull

    – Emotionally heavy or restrictive

    – Include:

    – A simple human figure (minimal style)

    – Small visual cues of judgment (e.g., labels like with a strike-through)

    – Keep it minimal, not crowded

    ### 5. Right Side (Positive Reality)

    – Transform the same figure into a more expressive version

    – Use warm, vibrant colors:

    – Pink, yellow, green

    – Add elements like:

    – Flowers, light bursts, or soft organic shapes emerging from the character

    – This side should feel:

    – Alive

    – Hopeful

    – Beautiful and free

    ### 6. Central Transition

    – The middle area (between both sides) is critical:

    – Show a smooth transformation

    – The character can be half-grey half-color

    – This transition is what delivers the message visually

    ### 7. Typography

    – Main text (Arabic):

    – Placement:

    – Center or lower third of the poster

    – Style:

    – Clean, modern Arabic font (e.g., Cairo / Tajawal)

    – Emphasis:

    – Highlight one word (e.g., or ) using color contrast

    ### 8. Color Palette

    – Grey: soft, neutral tones for the left side

    – Bright colors for the right side:

    – Pink

    – Yellow

    – Green

    – Use gradients subtly to enhance elegance

    ### 9. Design Style Requirements

    – Minimalistic and elegant

    – Strong visual contrast

    – Balanced composition

    – Avoid clutter

    – Focus on clarity of message

    ### 10. Export Requirements

    – Format: PDF

    – Quality: High Quality Print

    ### Final Note

The design must not feel aggressive or chaotic.

It should be emotionally powerful, visually clean, and socially meaningful, ? .

  • Art Question

    Purpose

This essay fulfills the course requirement to conduct written research on a work of art or architecture. Your research essay will be based on the topic and bibliography you presented earlier in the course.

    Directions

    1. Select an artwork (or architecture) from the eras covered in Modules 1 -5. This means it must fall between the Prehistoric era through Ancient Greece. You will then write a research essay about your selected artwork. The idea is to find an aspect about this work you wish to research and present in an essay form.
    2. Provide a clear thesis and demonstrate your support for that thesis in your research. Your thesis should be stated by the end of your first paragraph. Remember, a thesis is: a statement or theory that you intend to prove by the end of your paper. For example, you may want to discuss a work of architecture and its relation to social and political ideas of the society that created it. Or, if the artist’s biography is known, you may discuss how the work of art might relate to that biography.
    3. Demonstrate the following within your research essay:
      • Identify the artist/culture who created the work. Who made this? Why was it made? What do we know about its creation and purpose?
      • Identify the period and place it was created. How do factors like the historical context and location shape the meaning of the work?
      • Describe the artwork in detail. Utilize formal analysis in your description. Give attention to the materials and techniques the artist used to effectively communicate their ideas.
      • Identify and describe the style of the artwork e.g., High Classical or Hellenistic. Remember that in discussing style, you are often referring to a period style or regional style.

    Formatting Requirements

    • Write 750 words (approx 3 pages,) double-spaced and typed, in 12pt. font. The 3 pages means 3 full pages of text plus a bibliography. The bibliography and header/title page should not be part of the page count.

    Overview

People who lived at the height of the Baroque period, during the 16th century, witnessed the emergence of several of the greatest artists in the history of Western art. In Italy, the artist Bernini was the driving force for a new type of figurative sculpture that was filled with energy and drama. Likewise, his Italian counterpart in painting, Caravaggio, created images that were filled with down-to-earth realism and dramatic use of light. In fact, artists across Europe began to embrace Baroque form and content in their work. These include the Flemish painter Rubens, the Spanish painter Velasquez, and Dutch painters Vermeer and Rembrandt.

Rembrandt and Caravaggio are considered to be two of the greatest and most influential painters in the history of Western art. Both created their work during the Baroque period, but each artist was from a different geographical region and each was driven to create by different social forces and for different personal reasons. Consider these issues as you write your Discussion post.

    Your Assignment

In this Discussion, you will post a 550-750 word analysis in which you will examine, compare, and evaluate the work of Caravaggio and Rembrandt. You will watch the videos and read the content provided for each artist, then use these as a basis to write contextual analyses of their work. You will support your key points with ideas and concepts from the readings and videos, as well as your own observations, ideas and insights.

This Discussion is worth 100 points. Please read the instructions and Grading Rubric before you begin.

    Due Date

    • Your initial Discussion post is due by Sunday, Apr. 26 at 11:59 p.m
    • Your responses to posts by at least two different classmates is due by Sunday, May 3 at 11:59 p.m.

You must post in the Discussion before you can read your classmates’ posts.

    Instructions and Grading Criteria

Before you begin, review the reading and study guides for pages 294-298 of Artforms. Also, be sure to read the This assignment combines elements of all three types of critical theories/approaches (Formal, Contextual, Expressive), with emphasis on Contextual Analysis.

Important! Approach this discussion as you would if you were writing a college paper. In other words, don’t just start writing in the discussion board without having a plan. I recommend that you open a Word Doc or Google Doc, turn on version history, then write and revise a polished 550-750 word paper, which you will copy and paste into your discussion post.

Step One: Watch the Videos (listed below)

Watch the videos and read the content (at the bottom of this page) to gain a solid understanding about the life and work of Baroque artists Rembrandt and Caravaggio. As you do so, try to understand the primary personal, religious, and social forces that drove each of these artists to create. As you watch each video, do the following:

    • Take notes about the key ideas and concepts that directly relate to what you will need to write about in each paragraph of your essay, explained in Step Two. Include your own ideas and insights.
    • Identify and list a few works by each artist that you find to be the most powerful and/or moving. You may use the images from the readings and videos, or use Google to search for other works by these artists.
    • Based on what you have learned, select your favorite artist.

Step Two: Post in the Class Discussion

Your post is worth 80 possible points

Write a 550-750 word analysis in which you will examine, compare, and evaluate the work of Caravaggio and Rembrandt. Organize your analysis into four paragraphs, listed below, and follow the instructions. It may be helpful to use headings.

At the beginning of each paragraph, write a concise topic sentence that clearly states what the paragraph is about. This topic sentence will help frame the controlling argument for each paragraph and will help your reader follow your key ideas.

Paragraph One: Subject and Overall Style

This paragraph should be between 100-150 words.

Post images of the paintings you selected by both Rembrandt and Caravaggio.

Briefly state, then describe, the subject of each painting. As with Discussion 3 (Formal Analysis), your description should be so clear and specific that the reader can imagine the work of art in their mind as they read. Think about how each work is a good example of the artist’s overall style and approach to painting.

Paragraph Two: Personal and Cultural Context

This paragraph should be between 150-200 words.

Summarize and discuss the primary personal, religious and social forces that impacted the life and work of both Rembrandt and Caravaggio, motivating each artist to approach their work in such a unique and powerful way.

    • What was happening in each of the artists’ personal lives?
    • What religious and/or social developments were taking place in the society around them during the Baroque period?
    • Who were their patrons? Who commissioned their work and why?

Refer to the notes that you took while watching each video. Focus on the key ideas and concepts from the videos. You will not need to refer to other sources from the internet.

Helpful Tip! The Counter-Reformation, in Italy, is an example of a religious development.

Paragraph Three: Stylistic Similarities and Differences

This paragraph should be between 150-200 words.

In Paragraph Two, you discussed the religious and/or social developments that were taking place during the Baroque period.

In Paragraph Three, you need to summarize and describe the most important stylistic similarities and differences between each work of these two Baroque masters. You need to explain about how the religious and social developments, discussed in paragraph two, are reflected in the style (formal characteristics) of each artists work. This is an essential part of writing a contextual analysis.

The reading and study guides for pages 294-298 of Artforms will help reinforce what you learn from the videos.

Helpful Tip! Be sure to apply what you have learned about

Support your key points with descriptive references to the visual and formal characteristics in each of the works of art you posted. Again, refer to the notes that you took while watching each video. Focus on the key ideas and concepts from the videos and not on other sources from the internet.

    Paragraph Four: Preference and Evaluation

This paragraph should be between 150-200 words.

State your preference. Then, evaluate and thoroughly explain why you prefer the work of the artist you selected over that of the other artist. Support your reasoning with direct references to the artist and painting you selected.

You may wish to consider the following:

    • What initial ideas or feelings come to mind after experiencing the work of art?
    • Do you identify with the work? Based on your life experiences, is it personally relevant to you?
    • What is it about the work of art that you like the most? The message? The way it was made or composed?
    • Are you engaged by the formal characteristics, such as the way the artist used light, color, texture, space, scale, etc?
    • Do you think your experience of the work is the same as what the artist intended? No Ai use the answer needs to be written by a human

Objects Analyses Paper for Art 205 Art in Non-Western Cultures Online

    Assignment:

You will write a comparative object analysis of two works of art of your choice should be chosen from the Permanent Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You will discuss the works in light of ONE of the following topics or from a topic of your choice:

    • Power, Politics, and Glory (includes political and military leaders, war scenes, or art about peace)
    1. Everyday Objects (includes objects with a utilitarian function)
    2. Social Constructions of Gender (which can include art depicting couples, sex and sexuality, fertility, and offspring)
    3. The Body (includes portraits, self-portraits, sickness and death)
    4. Class (includes art that depicts luxuries of the ruling class, workers at work, the plight of the poor)
    5. Icons (includes religious works that were thought to hold spiritual power for worshippers)

    Assignment Objectives:

    1. To integrate formal analysis and contextual analysis of two objects seen in person at a museum
    2. Show development of ideas within paragraphs with a introductory thesis, visual evidence, and conclusion
    3. Convince the reader that you saw it physically
    4. Conduct some research on contextual information using outside sources
    5. Objectify your perspective on a work of art
    6. Conduct a compare/contrast on formal analysis and cultural context of the two artworks
    7. Papers should read like a narrated Powerpoint presentation with an intro, then first image (captioned), text about first image, then second image (captioned), text about second image, compare and contrast, then conclusion. The paper should also include a works cited page at the end (see Format below).

    Assignment Requirements:

You only need 2 works of art and they must be from a Non-European culture covered in class (China, Japan, India, Korea, Vietnam, the Americas, Oceania, Islamic cultures, etc.). You must identify the 2 works of art by artist, title, date, and medium within your paper. The two works have to be from two different cultures. Choose your examples with your theme in mind.

Papers should include a works cited with photographs of the two selected art works at the end of the paper. Photographs should be labeled by artist, title, year, medium, and location. If you do not include the works cited or photographs of your selected art works, paper will be marked down -10.

Questions to ask of an artwork while at the museum/constructing formal analysis:

    • Why is the artist using this particular medium? What are its advantages? Its limitations?
    • Are the lines thick or thin? Largely vertical or horizontal? Straight or curved? What is achieved by this particular use of line?
    • Is the color realistic or expressive? Warm or cool? Bright or muted? And to what effect?
    • How is light used? How is shadow used? Is there any play between the two? What is communicated to the viewer?
    • What is the sense of space in the work you’ve chosen? Is there great depth, or is the visual plane shallow? How are the elements of the work configured in that space? How does the sense of space affect the subject matter? Affect your response to the work?
    • How do the various formal elements of the work interact? How does the composition convey the work’s theme or idea? How does the eye move across the piece? How does the composition control that movement?
    • What elements of the composition work to constitute the artist’s style? The style of the period in which the artist was/is working?
    • Can you detect the hand of the artist? Are the brushstrokes smooth or rough? Were they applied with a controlled hand or spontaneously? What effect does this have on the work?
    • Is the work in good condition? Are there any unfinished areas? Are there cracks in the paint? Are there any tears or scratches? What kind of frame is it in? How is it installed on the wall?

Questions to ask of the culture(s) while conducting research/contextual analysis:

(I recommend 2-3 outside sources. Outside sources include the textbook and other art history books, the museum website, text panels, audioguides, and other academic websites. No Chat GPT, wikipedia, quilt, flashcards.net, or personal blogs)

    • Who commissioned it?
    • What was the function?
    • What does the medium reveal about the time period/ culture?
    • What is the effect on the viewer?
    • What values or messages about the culture does it reveal?

When you begin to see links between the formal elements and the larger issues of content and context, these connections are what should form the basis of your argument and thesis statement, in other words, what does each work reveal about the culture in which they were made? Start to organize the order in which you will present your evidence to the reader to prove your point. Eliminate any irrelevant mentions of formal elements that fail to further your argument. If writing about two different cultures, a quick compare/contrast of the two would be needed as part of your conclusion.

    BEAR IN MIND:

The analysis is to be based primarily on your own observations. Outside research, properly cited, for the historical and contextual analysis is recommended but the visual observations should be your own. This is not a research paper!

Thus as the first stage of your work, you should think hard about as many aspects of the work as is possible. Consider the subject matter, color, application of paint, brushstroke, and/or style, composition, manipulation of space or emphasis on flatness, balance or asymmetry, etc. Then connect how each of these elements serve to advance the subject or function that the artist is addressing. In what ways does the work reflect and express the broader aesthetic, philosophical, and social concerns of the period in which it is made? How does it relate to its broader historical context?

    • As the second stage of the work, you should compare the two works in relation to each other, keeping the theme or topic youve chosen foremost in your mind.

    WRITING THE PAPER

    Format for Papers:

Papers should be 3-5 pages typed, double-spaced, with 12-point font and submitted in to turnitin.com by your due date. Link is at the bottom of the page.

Sources should be documented using MLA-style parenthetical documentation. Bibliography must be included. 10 points

Illustrations/Photographs of the 2 works should be labeled by artist, title and date. 10 points

Some useful websites and lectures including how to cite art history sources such as museum text panels are located in the Met Museum Paper folder.

    What to do:

    • Begin your paper with an introductory paragraph that sets up the objects that you will discuss. Within the first or second paragraph, construct a thesis that lists the works and theme youve chosen and what your formal and contextual analyses will reveal about the culture.
    • Keep your thesis in mind as you write, and make sure that you stick to the point. Everything you write should be illuminating your thesis and moving the argument forward.
    • Make sure you have a concluding paragraph at the end.
    • Proofread! I will take writing quality into consideration when assessing your paper grade.
    • Please keep a duplicate copy of your paper on your computer.

    What not to do:

    • Do not produce a general summary of the works rather than a focused analysis that highlights your specific work and thesis.
    • Avoid the use of value judgments such as “great” “best” “wonderful” “incorrect” “ugly” “inept” “it moved me”

Papers will be graded on clarity and specificity of thesis, appropriateness of images to the theme, quality of formal analyses, research on contextual information, and persuasiveness of argument. Additionally, style, organization, and correct grammar and spelling will also be factored into the grade. A rubric is included in the paper module.

    Plagiarism is not allowed.

Direct text from outside sources should be avoided. The use of AI to generate text is prohibited and can be detected by turnitin. Students with AI present in their assignments will receive a 0 with no option to rewrite and will be reported to the Academic Dean.
