Every student will be required to write a Research paper about the following topic: Identifying and explaining the various types of crime control strategies in which law enforcement agencies are utilizing today in the United States of America. The minimum word count for the paper must exceed 1500 words. The term paper must possess a minimum of five credible sources, typed, and double-spaced. I also require a minimum of 50% original content (content not cited) in your term paper. I want good credible sources from academic journals, case law, articles, textbooks, etc., as well as your own original thoughts, positions, and conclusions about what is written in those journals.

The Research paper is due by April 19, 2026, by 11:59pm. The Research/Term paper assignment is worth 1500 points towards your final grade.

It is forbidden to submit a paper which you have written in another class and use it for this class. Doing so will be considered Plagiarism.

The Research paper will be submitted in Microsoft Word or a (rtf) Rich Text File.

I will not accept any late term papers for any reason. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you submit your research papers early.

Evaluation Criteria For Written Papers: Written papers, refers to essay questions, free-writing exercises, critical analysis write-ups, reaction papers, research papers, annotated bibliographies, discussion postings, current events, and term papers. These writing assignments will be graded using the following general criteria:

C’s = Main ideas fairly well intact. A grade in the “C” range will be given to efforts that exhibit a solid majority of the basic ideas or information and fair organization of the material.

D’s = Many of the main ideas missing or vaguely stated. A grade in the “D” range will be given to efforts that are missing a great deal of the basic ideas and information and are not particularly well organized.

F’s = Main ideas virtually completely missing. A grade of “F” will be given to efforts that are missing all or most of the basic ideas and information and are not particularly well organized.

  • Week 2 discussion post

    Discussion Prompt:

The following prompts comprise what is referred to as the “primary post”, i.e., these should be posted in a single post with one response on top of the other. Each should be numbered to clearly show where the response to #1 ends and the response to #2 starts.

    1. Select a Supreme Court decision that had a significant impact on law enforcement. What are the facts of the case and what are the impacts of the decision on the police administrator?
    2. Describe the relationship between the police agency/police administrator and the media (to include social media). In what ways are there conflicts? In what ways are there partnerships?

    Peer Reply Guidance:

A suggested response of 300 words for a participation reply to a classmate (or one of my follow up questions when asked) is traditionally needed for a substantive participation response. This word count is only a general guideline and will not affect your grade if not met.
