- Stuck or need inspiration? Click to help get you started.
- Write your goal using the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely)
- Specific Clearly state what you want to achieve.
Measurable Be able to track your progress.
Achievable Make sure its realistic based on your current resources and time.
Relevant Connect it to your values or long-term plans.
Timely Set a deadline to help stay on track. - Example: I will create and consistently follow a weekly study schedule using Google Calendar, dedicating at least 18 hours per week to specific coursework tasks (e.g., reading, assignments, review) for the remainder of the semester, to improve my time management and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Specific Clearly state what you want to achieve.
- Make it Specific
- Break your goal into at least three smaller steps or actions you can take. For each one, explain how youll keep track of your progress.
- Example:
- Step 1: Set up my Google Calendar with recurring weekly study blocks (3 hours/day, 6 days/week).
How Ill track it: Ill color-code each course in the calendar and check off completed sessions at the end of each day.
Step 2: Break down weekly tasks for each class every Sunday night (readings, assignments, studying) and assign them to calendar slots.
How Ill track it: Ill make a to-do list in Google Tasks and review it daily.
Step 3: Set weekly reminders to reflect on how well I followed my study plan and adjust if needed.
How Ill track it: Ill write a short weekly journal entry noting what worked, what didnt, and how Ill adjust.
- Make it Measurable
- What will show you that youre making progress or that youve reached your goal?
- Example: Ill know Im making progress if I consistently follow my calendar at least 85% of the time each week. Ill also see improvement in assignment quality and reduced last-minute stress. Ill know Ive fully reached my goal if my final GPA is 3.5 or higher and I feel confident managing my time throughout the semester.
- Make it Achievable
- Think about what resources youll need, what obstacles might come up, and how will you plan for them?
- Example:
- Resources/Obstacles:
I may get overwhelmed by assignments piling up. I might feel unmotivated some days. I could forget to check my calendar or ignore reminders.
What Ill do:
Break large assignments into smaller tasks. Use a study accountability partner or group. Keep my study space distraction-free and schedule breaks. Set phone alarms and use sticky notes as visual cues.
- Make it Relevant
- Why is this goal important to you?
- Example: This goal matters to me because Ive struggled with time management in the past, and I want to feel more in control of my schedule and stress levels. A consistent study routine will help me build habits that support my academic success and prepare me for future responsibilities, both in college and beyond.
- Make it Timely
- When will you achieve this goal?
- Example: I want to reach this goal by the end of the semester. Ill track my progress weekly and make adjustments as needed along the way.

The lack of mental health access in the state of Texas impacts nursing practices significantly. At the micro level of the healthcare system, the lack of access leads to increased burnout and compassion fatigue which has a direct impact on patient care at the bedside. This has historically increased medical/medication errors, communication and high turnover. At the meso level, work environments are affected as some programs designed to support staff are offered during standard hours which restricts assess to certain shifts. The greatest challenge at the meso level is the high workloads and increasing staffing shortages that nurses are experiencing which leaves little to no room for nurses to engage in self-care. Lastly, impacts at the macro level greatly impact workforce stability, patient safety and care. Creating a culture of safety in the workplace is crucial, this improves retention, leads to more successful patient outcomes and cuts costs on several different levels throughout an organization.

Deficiency Detective Discussion (Vitamins and Minerals)
Deficiency Detective Discussion (Vitamins and Minerals)
Purpose: Why are you doing this?
This activity aims to help you strengthen your critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and application skills by investigating a real-world nutrient deficiency case using an interactive AI tool. Youll practice:
- Recognizing signs and symptoms of common micronutrient deficiencies
- Asking targeted, logical questions to guide diagnosis
- Interpreting bioavailability and dietary clues
- Proposing realistic, evidence-based solutions for recovery and prevention
Task: What do you need to do?
The following steps identify the process of generating and solving your case study.
Step 1 Open the chat bot and generate your case study.
(If you prefer not use AI, please use thefor this discussion)
Access the GPT chatbot
Request that a case be presented based on the field you are studying at Valencia. On the main page, you will click on one of the boxes or type Give me a case, as if I (fill in the job you want to do when you finish your degree).
The bot will provide you with a case study of a person who exhibits a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Your job is to ask the AI bot questions to determine which vitamin or mineral deficiency this case exhibits. You will type questions into the text prompt.
Step 2: Ask the chat bot questions until you identify the nutrient deficiency.
Work through the case by typing in your own questions to uncover:
- Symptoms (Example: Is tingling in this persons feet related to their nutrient deficiency?)
- Eating patterns and food sources (Example: How often does the individual eat meat?)
- Nutrient interactions and absorption issues (Example: what does an antacid do to cause a nutrient deficiency?)
- Once you have the deficiency figured out, ask the AI bot if you identified the correct nutrient (example: Is it a thiamin deficiency?). If you are wrong, keep asking questions until you get it right. If you are correct, then you may proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Obtain a link of your chat bot conversation.
Click on the Share button in the upper right corner. Then, click the create link button.
Click the copy link button and then paste it into the Discussion. You will paste this into your post.
Step 4 Submit your initial post.
In a reply to this discussion thread, paste the chat bot link of your discussion (see step 3). Then, answer the following questions:
- What is your nutrient deficiency?
- Why do you believe this nutrient is the correct one? What specific evidence led you here?
- What diet changes would you suggest for the peers’ case study person to correct the nutrient deficiency.
- What part of this case challenged you the most? What did you learn about your own thought process during this activity?
Step 5 Reply to TWO Peers
On a different day than your initial post, review two peers’ posts. Click their chat bot link and read through their conversation. In your reply, answer these questions:
- What questions were missing? i.e. what alternative questions may have helped your peer to isolate the deficiency?
- Discuss the diet changes that your peer suggested in their post. Are the recommendations realistic? Discuss how variables like culture, budget, or food access might affect the person’s ability to make those food changes.
Limited use of AI
Students are allowed to use AI for the purposes outlined in the directions. However, students are required to provide a link to the AI conversation in their discussion post. No other uses of AI are allowed, including answers to the discussion questions. All answers within the posts must be the thoughts, words, and research of the individual students.
