  • Atlantic Revolutions

Beginning in the 1750s and lasting into the early 20th Century (1914 CE), an Age of Revolution swept through the Atlantic World (Europe, North, Central & South America). The goal of every revolution is governmental change, but not every revolution succeeds in creating change that is lasting, or that makes life better for everyone in society. Revolutions impact societies beyond just the systems that govern them. More importantly, why did people want to completely change the ways in which their communities were governed? In other words, what caused these revolutions? In Milestone 2, you will select or be assigned one Atlantic Revolution that occurred between 1750s and 1914 CE. You will conduct basic research to describe the revolution and identify what contributed to it (causes) and conclude with the revolution’s impacts and historical significance. Delivery Milestone 2 Atlantic Revolutions essay Instructions Select one from the following three Atlantic revolutions: French Haitian OR Latin American Research the revolution you selected. You must include at least one primary source (something made at the time of the historical event you are studying). Consult the HIS 103 LibGuide for suggested resources organized by Revolution. Take notes as your research that includes: the sources used, your notes, and a summary of your notes. You will submit these notes with your essay. Write a Milestone 2 Atlantic Revolutions essay using the outline below. Submit your essay & notes to the Milestone 2 assignment folder in D2L by its due date. Essay Outline Background Information ( 1+ paragraphs) Write at least 1 paragraph with important dates, key terms, geographical locations, and individual names or groups (historical actors), i.e., the when, what, where, and who of the revolution you selected as a historical event. Causes (4-6+ paragraphs) As you read about and research the revolution: Identify at least 6 causes that led to the revolution (see below for text signposts in your sources). Summarize and explain them. To help you, consider answering: What were the revolutions goals? What was going on before the revolution that contributed to people wanting a new government? What inspired people to revolt? Conclusion (2+ paragraphs) Analyze and determine whether the revolution was a success or a failure. Answer: What were the goals of the revolution? Were they achieved? Did the new type of government the revolution established give citizens different/more rights? If yes, what were those new rights? Who received them? In other words, who was included and who was excluded from the wins of the revolution? What was at least one consequence, or lasting effect, of this revolution? Bibliography List all the sources you consulted and used in the essay in APA format. Resources for Causes Text Sign-Posts for Causes
