    Since these are the first two quotes in your paper, the footnotes should look like:

    Write an essay of no more than 1800 words in answer to the following question:

    1. How different were civilian experiences on the home fronts of Britain and Nazi Germany, 19391945?

    Although it is likely that you will begin by looking at Unit 10 to answer this question, potentially there is material in all of Units 912. The geographical focus of the question is narrow, but the examples and case studies that you could employ are much broader, so you will need to make clear choices about what you cover and how. You should concentrate on civilian experiences and offer explicit comparisons and contrasts between Germany and Britain in order to address the how different element of the question. To do that, you need to think about appropriate categories to use, which might be either group based (e.g., gender, class) or thematic (e.g., consumption, state control).

    In addition to the relevant units, you should draw upon their independent study materials. By this stage of the module, you are expected to begin to seek out your own information, starting with the suggested further reading and independent study resources, but also including some additional sources, both primary and secondary, from the databases that you have been introduced to in the module.
