    Description: This assessment task requires students to present a 46-minute oral point of view on an issue that has appeared in the media since September 1st, 2025.

    Directions to students:

    Oral Point of View

    Select a significant issue that has been debated in the media, since September 1st, 2025.

    Construct a sustained, coherent and logical point of view with reasoned arguments on a selected issue.

    The date of your presentation will be confirmed by your teacher. All students will submit both a transcript of their speech AND reference list in class, after they present their speech. All students will be sent an email to book a time to deliver their oral in small groups prior to Week 10.

    Authentication

    All students will complete some work in class in the weeks preceding the SAC date. The Oral Point of View will be presented orally to your teacher, and a co-assessor in Week 10 of Term 2.

    This SAC is worth 20 marks in Unit 4 and will be assessed according to the performance descriptors and student assessment sheets you have received.

    Some Advice

    You will need to read and collect 8-10 articles on one particular issue that has been debated in the media since September 1st 2025. Remember, it is important to have a sound understanding of the complexities of the issue so before you begin to construct your response make sure you understand the context. Consider the way the issue has evolved, and try to go beyond the standard interpretation of the issue. Even a seemingly straightforward issue will have complexities. You should examine, but not be restricted by, the following:

    The history and development of the issue

    What triggered the debate (article, political decision, event)

    The nature of the media coverage

    The stakeholders

    The tone of the debate

    The complexities

    Whether the issue is likely to be resolved, and why/why not

    You should then decide on your opinion on the issue, and write a presentation that aims to persuade your class to share your point of view. You may choose to support your oral presentation with other material (such as a PowerPoint presentation or a handout), but this is not a requirement of the task.

    You are then asked to justify, in writing, the intention of decisions you have made about argument, language and the delivery of your presentation.

    this is the instructions, I want to do my speech on Immigration in Australia and how it should be allowed. I want to do lots of linking to real life, as in use at least 10 bits of evidence from news articles and link them in.
